She's beaming as she listens to him talk about games, it was rare to find someone who shared her passion to this level even if the type of games were different. But she managed to stop smiling long enough to get a couple sips of her drink in.
"It's one thing playing couch co-op overcooked or running a farm with friends, and another to be thrown into a raid or a big match with people you don't know too well." Ruby said with nod, understanding how being in online play could be overwhelming. Not to say she couldn't enjoy big raids with her guild, but that's was because she'd built those friendships, made those matches a little easier to go into.
"I have an older sister. Talented Biochem researcher, doing stuff blood cancer research at the moment I think." Ruby said, sitting back, it had been a while since she'd actually called Anna. She'd probably have to do that when she got home. "What about you... any siblings? Pets?"
He grins, listening intently. He liked how easy this felt. He couldn't remember the last time he connected with someone that wasn't about work. Something genuine. Even if it was just surface level talking.
When she asked him about his personal life, however he tensed. A quick flinch. Barely noticeable, but there on the edges of his mouth that retained a smile but somewhat faltered. His eyes travel away from her face and off into the distance, as if trying to pull a very distant memory. "I-I " He manages a light chuckle but it's stiff. "No. No family. And I love animals but they wouldn't last in my care I'm afraid. I travel too much." He runs a hand through his hair and clears his throat.
