I have a feeling the reason Han likes Twinkie so much and lets him hang around with his racing clique in Tokyo (who are otherwise all Asian - because it’s Tokyo duh), is because he reminds him a lot of Tej Parker and Roman Pearce, his friends from Dom’s racing crew.

Twinkie is less of a driver and more of a mechanic just like Tej, and he is a fast talker just like Roman is (which gets him into trouble on occasions).

Just a neat little touch I noticed when watching all of the films with Han in chronological order to see how they match up. This is all based on nothing but speculation and my own personal observations, but I think it works very well.
