Very few knew about the prominence of the McDLT, a McDonaldâs menu item that consists of the primary ingredients of lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise that was purportedly created to counter Burger Kingâs whopper. The main campaign slogan of the McDonaldâs burger was that it was separated into two halves: one with all the cool veggies, and the other with the hot meat. The slogan even went along with an obnoxiously catchy commercial that repeated the lines, âand the cool stays cool: and the hot stays hot!â Itâs understandable why most people donât know it existed, as it was exclusively a â90s thing, and it was later discontinued in the early 2000s presumably because of the wonky packaging being unpopular among customers. The McDLT didnât completely die though, as it was reborn as the Big & Tasty: a derivative with the ingredients of the original, but without the icy-hot motif.
It was thought that nearly every McDonaldâs location in America discontinued the item (aside from the occasional myth that there was in Alaska that was still serving them and whatnot). But what most people donât know is that thereâs one McDonaldâs location that still sells them in the quiet outskirts of Springfield, IL. You wouldnât assume much from the restaurant there, as it looks like one youâd find anywhere else, but there was a particular aura to this one: one that canât really be explained. The best way I can describe it is that itâs equivalent to the minor feelings of uncomfort you get upon sitting at the seats closest to the window. Normally, those places would be moments of reflection, but looking into the blackness surrounding you only gives you the vibe that the lamp above you is the only thing protecting you.
