Work experience...
A great week here at H&G Towers; one of the youngest members of the H&G family was with us for two days of work shadowing.
The rules have changed since we were at school; work experience for us was two weeks long, with very mixed reviews on our return to school. Personally, work experience was a positive, seminal time; I was fortunate enough to be placed with an inspiring, creative company, that gave me my own design projects to work on, took me to see art exhibitions and were generally very supportive and enthusiastic. I was sad to leave to go back to school.
When we learnt that Ed, who is 15, had only two days of work shadowing to complete, we were quite indignant, wondering how much he could actually gain or learn from the experience in such a short space of time.
How wrong we were! Ed is a bright, capable chap, who quickly mastered our website interface, some simple photo editing software, and our email newsletter design tool. He updated our social media, and even single-handedly created a short promotional video for our YouTube channel, something that had long been on the ‘back-burner of guilt’ of things that we never seemed to get around to doing. Hopefully, we’ll remember how he did it for our own attempt in a few weeks…
Together with his supreme organisational skills and excellent sense of humour, Ed is in very great danger of giving teenagers a very good name. We wish him well on the next stage of his career journey and would welcome him back any time.
