who comes to mind when you hear the word love?
Honesty Hour
“Barney,” Harlow says without filter, before shaking her head “No— God that’s a terrible answer.”
is it true you make the best cocktails?
Is it true?
“They’re alright,” She plays off with a knowing smirk, her self-deprecation being just as strong as her drinks. “My bar staff still pour circles around me.”
honesty hour for all!
"Is it true that..." Finish it in my ask box!

It was only fitting that an arms dealer’s offering would have something to do with weaponry. A Flintlock pistol - an antique handgun worth a pretty penny. Something she had come across in her work, and upon discovering a malfunction in its handiwork that made it unusable, the blonde realized it was either going to hang on some collector’s wall or be tossed to the grave. So, Balthazar’s grave it was. She watched as another woman placed her own gift down, recognizing her as that one bar’s owner. “Did you bring more where that came from? ‘Cause some of the alcohol they’re serving here is watered down shit. And I need the good stuff if I’m going to listen to a headache of sob stories and vengeful laughter.”
“I may have a flask or two on me.” Harlow tapped her purse, looking around and stepping to the side. Out of the way of any other mourners and watchful eyes, before removing one of the metal bottles and unscrewing the cap for her. “You mean you’re not enjoying our leader’s party?” She asked in a false surprise. From what she’s seen guests fell into one of three categories, mandatory enjoyment, uncomfortable mixed expressions, or genuinely sad.
The last were the easy customers, desperate to feel anything else. As morbid as it was, grief was an effective lubricant for all sorts of decisions. She knew first hand.
And Harlow wanted to find out where the other stood. “He’d hate that.”
glcricusx:
despite her arguments on the topic , it was clear to almost anyone that laid eyes on the petite blonde that she was practically the child of the gang , her relationship with the gang leader one of almost a family direction. the caito male looking down on the blonde as though one of his own , someone that almost needed twice the protection because of her innocent nature ; but her ability to hold her own if needed. her red sweater hugged her curves while her lilac purple sweater was held in her arms , a gift she had got from her past birthday from the gang leader.
finding the other close by , lorelai made her way over to the brunette with a small smile on her lips. ‘ how you holding up , gorgeous ? ’ she asked in a sweet voice , her sadness buried deep in her gut until she was alone. other needed her attention , others needed her comfort. ‘ mind me asking what you brought ? ’
‘ i’ve been better. ’ she said, her voice respectful but restrained. looking into the girl’s arms she noticed the sweater and immediately became curious of the story behind it. her mind had drawn it’s own consultation, not one she’d voice outloud but one all the same.
instead she turned her attention back to the bottle, looking at the label with a storm of mixed feelings. ‘ he helped me keep the bar after my mother passed, ’ the words came fast and steady, like ripping off a bandaid. ‘ homebrew seemed fitting. ’
‘ and the sweater? ’

vesper never thought it’d be so hard to find a personal item that’d reminded her of the dead leader, after all, she was used to being a political pawn in a larger scheme. and one would be plain stupid not to see what the top of the gang were trying to achieve; control and power over their members, showing them there was no way out. so there she stood, with a red swiss army knife, gifted by her grandfather, in the hand. the blonde turned her head, quickly scanning the surroundings before throwing her gift down with the others.
a part of her was glad she got rid of the knife that changed her life, but vesper also knew that this was the beginning of forever. she brought her hand towards her face, acting like she wiped away tears before turning around and walking away from the scene. ‘ now we’ve been through that – i need a drink. ’
“I couldn’t agree more.” She muttered under her breathe, before starting to move through the crowd with the over woman. This, in the wake of the bombing was just tempting fate to strike them again. This time, worse than the last. She scanned the crowd for Ajax as she walked, if something were to go down. She’d hoped she would find him first.
“It’s a hell of a party, for a memorial.” Taking a seat at the bar, and leaning onto her elbow as she spoke. The words were observant, but warm, inviting both opinions and critics of it or the man it all stood for.
She’d rather be working, a phrase she was sure she’d never say back in her teen years. When the thought of working the bar felt more like a pressure than a safety blanket. All of these people could have been at the Church right now, or at least some of them. The ones that couldn’t stand this postering. To her showboating couldn’t hide who he really was.
A man who could sell you snake oil while calling it holy water.
Having a complex relationship with a dead man she barely knew seemed was just one of many things Harlow felt wrong about these days. And it was represented in her offering, a bottle of the Church’s finest.
Her own sort of holy water she supposed. Still, the memorial was mandatory, and not just because of social graces. So she put on her party dress, and placed down her gift.
unblccmed:
lucien didn’t really know WHY he was out. he told himself it was simply impossible to avoid; that he just wanted a walk , fresh air , the night sky , a smoke. he could have walked anywhere , could have walked away from the street lights , the CACOPHONY of human life , but he was drawn to all the noises and smells in the air. he took a seat on the steps of a closed business , a good distance away from the vigil that he was able to enjoy the thrumming of human life and the night without having bodies pressing in on him. apparently he wasn’t far ENOUGH though , because here came someone to bother him.
harlow felt something against it when she opened the door, there was only one step outside the church door, for the good of everyone who worked or drank there. still, it wasn’t the first time she’d found someone in the stages of passing out there. “ hey, ” she called down to him. “ sorry, we’re closed for the night.”
bluexsully:
“this is STUPID ! ” she grunts in frustration as she lets her hands rest at her sides. “i can’t be a bad girl.”
“Life’s too short,” Her fingers gestured to the glass display scanning it over to see what she wanted. “You know those sprinkles are calling to you.”
alcjvndras:
‘ then they can pay extra or try craiglist. ’ alejandra exhales, realizing that her concerns are falling on ears that are barely there anyway. when the feds are mentioned, however, she swallows ROUGHLY and squares her shoulders, trying shrug off the subject. ‘ what interest do they have in nudes and temple run ? it’s useless information in here. ’ her own drink in a fruity concoction with whipped cream on top, akin to a float or milkshake. ‘ is everything okay ? you seem like you’re a million miles away. ’
Or try craiglist. Harlow’s features fell into an easy smile at that, but the naivety when it came to the feds. That she found really troubling. ‘ It might be the world’s oldest profession, but I’m sure the feds would threaten us with all sorts of jail time to get to the bigger fish. ’ She didn’t trust the police, the non-crooked kind that is, for what seemed like obvious reasons. ‘ And I’m sure anyone would enjoy your nudes. ’
When called out about her distance, Harlow seemly without a conscious effort, starting biting her nails. ‘ I keep thinking about what happened in the square. ’ First the bombs, now this. It didn’t sit right with her.

“one of the newer recruits said he lost his handgun.” jason’s head shook in disbelief, unable to comprehend such carelessness. “in some BAR. that shit has fingerprints on it, you know. so i made the kid go back and look, even though he was hungover as hell. eventually he found it in a stall in the woman’s bathroom,” he scoffed, a note of laughter ( although not very HAPPY ) in his voice. he smirked. “pretty sure he hates me now, but who gives a shit?”
“It was in one of the back booth’s originally.” The admission rolls off her tongue, easy and honest. She’d found it when she was cleaning, and picked it up with a napkin. If he was clueless enough to lose it once, she sure as hell wasn’t going to have her prints on it too. “But I thought this would teach him a lesson.”
alcjvndras:
‘ i’m open to many things, i really am—– but this ? ’ she flashes the wishlist that a potential client’s just sent, glowing grotesquely on her screen, bright eyes widening in horror as she recoils the phone back. ‘ i feel like that has to be unethical in some way. and a little painful, no ? ’
‘ maybe that’s what does it for them. ’ her eyes stared off into the air when she speaks, half there and half somewhere else. her train of thought uncensored and rambly as she waited for her drink. ‘ the pain, the hurting. them doing the hurting. them knowing you want the hurt. or at least pretend to. ’
when she hears the drink get placed in front of her, she takes a sip and seems to fall out of it. ‘ and watch who you show that phone too, there’s feds all over the place. ’
UNCLE AJ:
With a mounting pressure that seemed to felt more like two invisible hands squeezing his skull, the straight whiskey in front of Ajax was like the elixir of life, and the sole reason his day hadn’t been a complete and utter shitshow.
Brothel patrons that overstayed their welcome, upset escorts and a sneaking suspicion that there things weren’t entirely as they should be in his inner circle had made his respite to The Church an all too necessary escape.
While others may not have regarded the interior of another Valdez bar as remarkable, the place was hallowed halls to him. Ghosts of the passed occupied empty seats, and sometimes if the light caught just right, he could swear he could catch a glimpse of a long forgotten memory playing out before him like some twisted de ja vu.
(Not to mention, he was rarely bothered when he was there – until now, it seemed.)
Raising his glass to his lips, he spoke to the presence that he felt approaching him before he drank, feeling no need or desire to look and see who it was.
“Before you open your mouth, if whatever you’re going to say isn’t going to end up or relate to making me some kind of money, save it.”
The church may have welcomed anyone with a coin but pimps often got the cold shoulder from Harlow. The very few times she’d seen her mother interact with her old boss. She got a bad feeling in the pit of her gut, and it just seemed to stick, which was probably why she was freelance.
All, except one.
“Ah shit.”
“Here I thought I was special. ” The smartmouth tone came from a familiarity she felt with no one these days. The familiarity that came with him seeing all sides of her, the bad parts, the parts that screamed at people only trying to help and not telling her to go fuck herself.
SKY:
“I think there’s one way to find out,” He answered, appearing behind her a few seconds afterwards. He was still flexing – in more ways than one – and ignoring the dust of the cellar. For the most part, he found surroundings such as this a little on the creepy side.
(He blamed IT for that.)
Bending down, he braced his knees and lifted the box up almost easily, resting it’s weight against his chest as he began to climb the stairs and act as though the mass in his hands was featherlight.
“Where do you want this?”
“On the bar.” She instructed, lingering behind him a step or two in a self-indulgence gliding of her feet. Watching him work for her was an odd sort of feeling given their relationship, she couldn’t put it too words but her mind was working on it. ”Thanks,” Her hand slide down the back of his arm, part grateful, part letting him know she was coming. A subtle warning of sorts for the question that crudely tumbled out of her mouth when they were face to face. “Where you there? At the party I mean.”
