- What’s this for? - Because you’re important to me.
I'm a Mess || Harper & Chase (closed)
Harper had made it all the way down to the bottom steps of her apartment building when she felt her breath get caught in her throat. There was no way this was happening. Not here. Not again. Not when things were finally going so smoothly. In fact, the blonde had been on her way out for her usual evening walk, her chance to relax after long day…this was not part of the plan.
"Chase," she said, unable to hide the surprised expression on her face; thankfully, she was able to hide the hostility in her voice. It had been too long since she’d last seen him, much less actually talked to him. They hadn’t ended things on a good note the first time Chase left home and after that things just escalated. Despite the fact that Chase Ridley had been her longest friend, Harper couldn’t help but view him slightly as a stranger lately. Especially after the last time she’d been in Oxford. Falling in love with a Belfront was bad enough, finding out that your ex-best friend was said Belfronts best friend made things a little complicated.
Thankfully Harper was pulled from her train of thought when Chase suddenly wrapped his arms around her. She let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding before ultimately wrapping her arms around him as well. His words managed to bring a small smile to her face. “I missed you too,” she replied before she could stop herself, her voice barely above a whisper. Suddenly Harper forgot that they were standing in the middle of the sidewalk but she couldn’t care less. Right now, even if for only for a second, things felt okay again. They felt right.
The sound of passing cars managed to snap her back into reality. After a moment she let hers drop back to her sides and took a small step back to get a better look at him. “I didn’t think you’d still be here,” she admitted, knowing good and well that Chase was…well, Chase. The fact that he had settled down in Oxford (of all places) all those years ago was still a bit of a surprise. It was an even bigger surprise to see that he was still here. “You look…good,” she added, a small grin on her face now. Okay, that was an understatement.
"Thanks, thanks!" he said, overly enthusiastically. He leaned back on his feet a bit and cleared his throat in an attempt to calm down. "And you look… Even better," he started, "Your hair is fantastic and your face is perfect and your eyes are sparkling…" He cleared his throat again, feeling like his shirt was going to suffocate him. "But you’re the most beautiful woman alive, so obviously all of those things are true and will always be true. You’re like a supermodel forever and always. You’d be more successful than Miranda Kerr, really, you would."
Chase suddenly wished he had Brett there to tell him to shut up. That was saying something because Brett was the queen of rambling. “I’m still here, yeah. I’m pretty much joined at the hip with your ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend who’s pregnant,” he paused before adding slowly, “I’m kind of like a second dad to that lil girl… The baby, I mean. Not the girlfriend. Though, I did kind of become a dad to your sister when she came down here. Crazy huh? That I moved here and then you came down here and then so did your sister??”
He stopped and sighed heavily, “I’m sorry, I’m being a complete idiot. Can I start over? Or take you out for a drink or dinner or something? I don’t want you to think of me any more negatively than I’m sure you already do. Because I was a jerk before I left New York. And you didn’t deserve it. And my reason was stupid, but anyway, yeah. Do you want alcohol so you can forget all of the stupid stuff I’ve said?”
A soft laugh escaped the blondes lips at how enthusiastic Chase was. A laugh was really all she could do in attempt to brush off the faint blush creeping up on her cheeks now. Goddammit. "Thanks, Chase" she forced herself to say, momentarily staring at the ground and waiting for her face to regain it's normal color before looking back at him. It's not that the blonde was uncomfortable with the compliments, it was the simple fact that they were coming from Chase that made her react this way. It was great to see that after all these years Chase Ridley still had the same effect on her.
Fucking fantastic.
Harper couldn't help the knot that seemed to form in her stomach at the mention of Toby. It was all a thing of the past now, her and Toby, and even her and Chase...but still, it was an strange situation. She couldn't help but chuckle softly. "Crazy is kind of understatement," she replied, a faint smile on her lips. Regardless of whatever Harper's current relationship was with both Chase and Toby, she wasn't sure she'd ever be able to repay them for all that they'd done for Kenna.
The smile slowly faded from her face now. "Chase, no - you're fine. You're not being an idiot, it's just..." the blonde trailed off, lettting out a breath herself. Complicated. "It's in the past, alright? All of it. Forget about New York and - starting over doesn't sound like a terrible idea." There was a part of Harper that regretted those words or simply wanted to explain her reason behind them but she didn't. New York was in the past; it had been years since they'd had whatever it was they had. It was just another thing of the past, right?
"A drink sounds nice. Or maybe a couple," she agreed, a small smile forming on her face as she attempted to ease the mood again. Harper would definitely need a drink or two in her if she was going to attempt to have a semi normal reunion with her former best friend.
On Top of the World | Jaden & Harper
After a terribly long day and uneventful day at work, Harper saw no better way to reward herself than a trip to Oxford Barr. Ultimately she had planned for a relaxing evening at home but at the last minute she found herself making an early turn and, well, here she was.
Despite the fact that it was still a little early the bar was rather packed (as usual). Her green eyes scanned the bar in search for a particular person - honestly, it wasn't exactly difficult to spot the man even in a crowd.
Jaden Keventry had always held a special place in Harper's life; in fact, aside from Chase, Jaden was probably the longest friend she'd ever had. The blonde was rather terrible at keeping relationships with her busy schedule (it had started at a rather young age) but she had put in a serious effort to keep in touch with the eldest Kenventry after their first meeting.
Ten years later, countless texting sessions and many late night skype calls later the pair found themselves reunited in Oxford, Mississippi of all places.
Sometimes it was funny how life worked out.
"Looks like it's going to be a busy night. And here I was going to ask what time you were off of work," she sighed dramatically, taking a seat at on one of the empty bar stools. Harper winked at him indicating that she was kidding (sort of?) as she took off her jacket. "How's work going? And how against drinking on the job are you?" she asked rather casually, an innocent smile on her face now.

Made of Stone || Dylan & Harper
The past few weeks had gone by, thankfully, rather peacefully for Harper. Thankfully Oxford had turned out to be the right move for her; in fact, there were times when she found herself wondering why she'd been so hesitant to move to Oxford. Aside from the fact that work was going well (aside from Caden Belfronts weekly arrest for public indecency), Kenna was happy here. And if Kenna was happy, Harper was happy.
Even if she had had semi awkward reunions with both Toby and Chase, the men in Oxford weren't all that bad. In particular, the one who currently sat on the desk next to hers.
Dylan Morehead had been the one who introduced her to this line of work and more. He had been the one to open her eyes to the supernatural world (even if she was currently oblivious to the fact that more than half of Oxfords residents were just that) before the grand revelation. In fact, she probably wouldn't be alive if it weren't for him. They'd managed to become friends (and occasionally more) after their shared near death experience back in New York. Dylan had even offered to teach her a thing or two on self defense before he returned back home, ironically, to Oxford.
And now here they were, a couple years later working side by side; they'd even resumed their training sessions. Funny how fate worked sometimes.
"Maybe we should bribe one of the Belfronts," she spoke, keeping her green eyes on her paperwork, "see if they want to get into some trouble tonight. Mainly for the sake of giving us a break from all this damn paperwork."

Mirrors || Henley and Harper
Much to Harper’s surprise, the past few weeks had gone by smoothly. In all honesty, it was what the blonde had hoped for when she decided to make the big move from New York City to Oxford. She’d settled in quite easily into her new apartment and work schedule, thanks in particular to Teagan and even Dylan. Aside from the semi-awkward reunion with Toby Belfront, Oxford wasn’t half bad. The small town wasn’t at all what Harper was used too but it was the right type of change (or escape) she was in serious need of.
After a rather eventful shift at work (she and Teagan had arrested Caden Belfront for public indecency…again), Harper decided to reward herself by stopping by Oxford Barr for a drink. She didn’t find out until recently that the famous bar belonged to the family of Toby s current girlfriend, who Harper (thankfully) hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting yet. She wasn’t exactly ready for that, not when things were still slightly odd between herself and Toby. All in good time. Harper wasn’t planning on going anywhere anytime soon.
As she walked to the bar someone at a nearby table attempted to get her attention, only to call her by the wrong name. Who the hell was Henley? “Wrong girl,” she answered, a slightly amused grin on her lips as the man at the table apologized. Harper shrugged it off but couldn’t entirely help but let her mind wander on the name. Henley. It seemed…familiar. Taking a seat at the bar, Harper ordered herself a drink and just when she’d given up on trying to place a face to the name, it finally came to her. Out of the corner of her eyes she watched at another blonde approached the bar before being greeted by the bartender on duty.
"Henley?" she asked, unable to help her curiosity. There was something oddly familiar about the other blonde…and it wasn’t the fact that the pair had vaguely met during Harper’s relationship/thing with Toby.
"Oh, fuck you, too," Henley rolled her eyes and threw up a middle finger to the man who refused to arm wrestle her, "You’re just afraid I’ll break the bones in your little puny hands." Honestly, she couldn’t say much, she had rather small hands. Difference was, she literally could break every bone in big-bad-biker-guy here’s body. Her hands were good at breaking things; but they were good at other things too (enter winking and cool shades emoji here).
She threw a few more fighting words at the man before his old lady calmed him and talked him into leaving the bar. Henley scoffed at him as he left. Though, she supposed she really shouldn’t be starting fights in her uncle’s bar. That was more a thing for Twin Moon. And for when Colton was around to see how hot she was when she was kicking people’s asses. Wait, what?
Shaking that thought was easier than it normally was, because a strange sensation that she hadn’t felt in years washed down her spine. She’d only ever felt that once before, with one particular person. What had her name been? Harper. Harper Greery. It was only seconds after she felt it in her bones that the smell hit her. It shocked her to her core, still. Henley had done a pretty good job of stuffing this emotion down and hiding it when Harper was no longer around. But as she turned towards the blonde in question, she could feel it all bubbling to the surface.
Henley started towards the bar, wondering why this blonde smelled so much like her. Why did Harper make her very bones ache, as if some kind of magnetism were drawing them towards each other. And it wasn’t in the way that she was drawn to say, Clair or Andrea (the magnetism started in the crotch with those two). This was like… It was like her soul was incomplete.
Weird, right?
Henley waved half-heartedly to the bartender and asked for a bottle of whiskey; seriously, she needed it with how exhausted she already felt. Then she heard Harper’s voice speak her name, and Henley’s blue eyes turned up to meet the green of Harper’s. Seriously, what in the hell was going on?
She’d hardly had any time with the girl when she was here before; in fact she’d tried to avoid her once all of this had started happening. “Harper, right?” Henley said, smiling to her and hoping that it didn’t show how shook she was to the core at the way Harper saying her name seemed to reverberate with the universe. She sounded like a psycho, and she knew it. But there was just… something about Harper.
"When did you get back in town?" she asked, tilting her head.
Harper couldn't help stop the smile that formed on her lips. So Henley did remember her. "In the flesh," she replied, a soft laugh escaping her lips as she turned in her seat slightly to get a better look at the other blonde. Henley looked almost exactly the same as she did five years ago. Same gorgeous smile, bright blue eyes and kick ass attitude (Harper having had the fortune to hear the other woman's last conversation with the man at the table). There was something about Henley Hanson that managed to bring a smile to Harper's face despite the fact that she didn't really know the other woman. She was just...admirable.
Reaching for her beer, Harper took a sip from her drink before responding. "A few weeks ago. But I haven't really had much of a chance to...properly enjoy the place," she admitted, a small grin on her face now. It had taken Harper longer than it should have to unpack because of course she had been second guessing her decision to settle here. Her last run in Oxford wasn't the best, particularly due to the lack of and disappointing information she had found regarding her family, but all in all Oxford wasn't terrible. At least that's what the blonde kept telling herself.
"Job transfer," she explained, her green eyes momentarily leaving the other woman and looking around the bar, "it's definitely a step away from the city but...it's not so bad. I'll be here longer than I ever thought, that's for sure." Turning her attention back to Henley she fell silent for a moment. For a split second the other woman looked...uneasy. Harper shrugged it off; surely she imagined it. Lack of sleep was probably getting to her.
"What about you? How's everything been going?" she found herself asking, unsure why she was suddenly so eager to speak to Henley. Especially given the fact that they hadn't exactly been friends.
