Ruby smirked at her friend as she shouted out at the male. “It’s so pathetic, like honestly we only ever take prisoners if we need something from them. If they have no use to you just kill them, but these morons decide to give us all our own hotel rooms - I mean it’s like a really dull holiday place.” 

“Is that not what we did though? Well not us, obviously. We were still here.” She reasoned with an eye roll. “Our idiot counterparts, that is.” Though she had to admit, her friend had a point, they had made everything rather cushy considering they were supposed to be criminals. “They’re not exactly the smartest of people.”

“What positive do you want me to mention?” He spoke bluntly, arms folding across his chest as he heaved a heavy sigh. She had always a way of getting to him, and he often chose to dismiss her words but this was something they needed to discuss. “Again, you’re being dramatic. For one second could you sit down and actually talk?” He shouted, his jaw tightening as he fixated his gaze on her. “This is the issue, you always ran away when you did not get your own way.”

“Fine. What is it you’re so desperate to talk about? You say I’m dramatic and that I run away yet you also sit there and say how there’s nothing good about our past that you remember. So please Jacob, tell me, what is it that’s left to discuss?” She threw her jacket back down onto the chair but refused to sit down herself. “Would you like me to sit here with a smile plastered on my face and nod along like an obedient dog, agreeing with everything you’re saying as you near enough insult me?” She was trying her best not to let her volume raised. Instead she chose to sit down on the chair with one leg crossed over the other and her hands laced together on her knee as she looked at him with a fake smile to prove her point.

.He was painting an entirely different picture to what their life had been like. It hadn’t been perfect, but back then that was what they both wanted. Now, he had a different idea of a relationship, and looking back that made him bitter. He did not want to be the secret, not anymore. “Back then that’s what we wanted, but we grew up, I wanted more than that, and that’s to be expected.” He sighed, shaking his head. Her next comment made him groan, eyes rolling as she spoke. “Stop being so dramatic, you always do this.”

“Well I’m sorry can you blame me with how you’re making our past sound, how you’re making me sound? I don’t think you’ve said one positive thing so far. I mean is there anything else that you’d like to add or say about me?” Harper wasn’t sure whether her emotions were leaning more towards being upset or her being angry. “I get it okay. I’m dramatic. I’m a liar. I’m a horrible person. Whatever did you saw in me, I’ll never know. Just forget that you saw me again Jake and I’ll stay out of your way.” Harper rolled her eyes as she stood up from her seat and grabbed her jacket.

“Woops?” She replied innocently with a small smirk lacing her lips. The brunette watched as the male gestured for another guard to come and watch them so he could leave for the hospital. She smirked as he went off in a huff muttering about how they’d have to face the consequences later. “How have you been? It feels like forever since we last spoke. Pity about the circumstances we’re meeting under though.” 

“Please, I’d like to see you try. I’m sure we’ve already established that she can easily put your in your place.” Harper scoffed as she called out to the male watching as he left the room. Her laughter could most likely be heard from the end of the corridor which just brought her more glee at the prospect. “Oh, you know the usual. Suffering boredom as I watch them mill about in a panic about what to do with us.

It was not as if they had been unhappy, but the lie had caught up with them, and he felt as if she was ashamed to begin with. Many ideas entered his mind, and as soon as she went to be a Death Eater, it felt as if they had been confirmed. “I was happy, but looking back, I don’t know— we were living a lie, weren’t we?” He shrugged, sighing deeply as he did.

“If that were the case then why didn’t you end things sooner? You never spoke to me about it to change anything.” She couldn’t say for sure what she would have done if he ever had brought it up. Their school years felt like another life time ago but also like a different time all together, one that didn’t really center around the war until the later years of their education. “I wouldn’t have said a lie. A fantasy, maybe? I guess I just wanted to keep what we had to ourselves without having it tainted. Almost to keep it pure without inflicting all the hate and prejudice onto it.” She cleared her throat, suddenly feeling uncomfortable with the honesty. “I’m sorry I made you so unhappy. I’ll leave you to move on with your life.”

“I never said that.” He defended, heaving a sigh, a hand moving to rub the bottom of his jaw. “It didn’t make it perfect either.”

“It feels as if that’s what you’re saying.” It wasn’t often that Harper let her emotions get the best of her even during their relationship and break up, but on this occasion she was really struggling. She could feel herself getting worked up and usually that meant she ran away rather than deal with them. “Were you ever happy?”

He sighed, shaking his head. “It was the principle, we spent years hiding everything, surely you understand how that did not work for us?”

“I was trying to protect both of us. That didn’t mean that my feelings for you were any less.” She huffed as her frustration began to increase. “You make it sound like the whole of our relationship was awful and like there were no good moments or memories.”

He heaved a sigh, eyes refusing to meet hers for a moment. He knew better than most that she had been ashamed of him, their relationship has been a lie from the beginning. “You know that isn’t entirely true— everything about us was always hidden.”

“Hidden yes. Can you blame me though? Do you realise what would have happened if people knew, what it would mean?”

He shook his head with a sigh, eyes rolling in response to her query. He knew truly well that she had lied about a lot of things, but keeping him a secret being the biggest. “You know very well what I am talking about.”

“If I knew that, I wouldn’t have asked. I never lied to you. Others yes, never to you.” Even now her words were true. Throughout their entire relationship she could never quite bring herself to lying to him, it was why she had gotten so good at either distracting or changing the subject.

Hearing the blonde’s words behind her made the brunette smirk. Without another word she grabbed the person’s wrist she was talking to and with a few moves she used her force to snap it. “Don’t look at me, she’s the one that wanted to mix it up.” She gave a shrug before turning to her friend. “Well, now look what you made me do.” 

Harper let out a sigh and looked at the girl fondly. “Not quite what I meant my dear.” She looked at the other person and tutted as she shook her head disappointed. “Do try not to make a mess, you know how I hate it.”

“Well, I was never one to lie about the truth.” He replied, eyebrows raised as he spoke. Perhaps it was a dig to their past, but it was well worth saying in his mind.

“What’s that suppose to mean?” Her face dropped at his words, hurt filling her. She’d never lied to him or about him per say. She just avoided certain conversations or found ways of changing the subject.

“Strange then, that you haven’t tried.” Alec shrugged. What did he know? “Still, it’s better than most alternatives.” 

“I haven’t tried because I am not a fool. I have no intention of dirtying my hands or taking on a fight I know I will not win.”

“It could be worse.” He said, crossing his arms over his chest. “Well, then perhaps you like this place more than you think.” He shrugged.

“You couldn’t be further from the truth. I would be glad to see the back of this place.”

He heaved a sigh, locking gazes with the female, “Well for you? Not an awful lot.” He responded with a shrug, “Looks like you’re out of luck.”

"How kind of you to remind me of that lovely fact. You always were considerate." She rolled her eyes at the male.

“This lackey is all you’ve got right now, I’m afraid.” He pressed his lips together, brows raised and shrugged. It was almost apologetic, but not quite. “Once seems more than enough to me, you haven’t managed to escape yet. Not much of a flight risk.”

"You make it sound as if I'm lucky to have you, I'd rather be alone thanks." She replied turning her nose up at him. "I haven't tried." The blonde shrugged
