Harvey was born into money and his family moved from France when he was six years old. The entire premise of their move was so his younger sister Liliana could receive Olympic level training in ice-skating.

Despite being the eldest DuPont, Harvey considers himself the least favorite between him and his sister. She was the apple of their mother and father’s eye and from his perspective, he was pushed to the side.

Even though Harvey has underlying jealousy for his sister Liliana, he cares about her deeply and has never missed any of her competitions.

His personal dream was to play in the NFL, but over the years he ended up losing the motivation because he wasn’t as supported. 

He was a little bit of an asshole when he was a senior in Walcott, but other than that he has always been a good student and quite social. 

In the 2018 Olympics, Harvey dropped everything to go and watch Liliana compete as usual. She got Silver but the competitive streak in the DuPonts nature got the better of Harvey.

He planned an attack on the skater who received gold, asking for a favor from people he knew were connected with the mafia. He’s still not sure if he did it for his sister, or because of jealousy.

Nobody knows that he was involved in the attack and sometimes Harvey wishes he could admit his guilt. But the mafia have not called in their debt yet for the favor and he’s constantly anxious about what it is they’ll ask from him. 

He works as a football coach at the school, which is the closest he’ll ever get to playing football professionally. 

Isn’t flashy with his money in an arrogant way but likes to carry himself proudly. Which is hard with a guilty conscious. 

Can be quite possessive and jealous when dating too.

Enjoys being center of attention or having his praises sang a lot, probably because of the lack of it in his childhood.

Only HE can be an asshole to his sister.

                                             Well, Hazel certainly didn’t predict this. Noah and Liliana both not turning up to a group meal. She was hoping it would kickstart the old days, get all four of them back to how they used to be but…Liliana and Noah clearly weren’t ready to have a meal together. Understood, loud and clear. Hazel just wished they told her instead of letting her go ahead with the reservation because now she was sat opposite Harvey, not really knowing what to do. “Maybe we should try texting them again? Maybe you text Noah and I text Lily?” she suggested. “Maybe they’re both on sibling strike or something?” she laughed, awkwardly. “Or traffic? It’s getting busier this time of year so…but I did ask Noah to walk, or bring his Tesla. Oh, maybe they carpooled?” Nope. Stop. “Um…sorry. We could just…go ahead and order?”

God damn Lily. This was probably her way of getting back at him for calling her boring routine boring. Harvey didn’t dislike Hazel, they used to all be close before the obvious happened and he didn’t like having to sit in an uncomfortable situation for longer than he needed to. He should have known that about himself before he agreed to help his sister (without her knowing) or come to this dinner. At this point he didn’t know which was worse. “Haze, I think we have to just accept we’ve been stood up.” he laughed, putting both palms on the table. “Maybe...it’s a little soon?” he shrugged a shoulder, even though it’d been years but maybe that was half of the problem too. “I appreciate the idea here, for sure. But, I don’t think we can expect everything to just be okay.” He may as well be obvious with it, since the two empty seats at the table were obvious enough. “I don’t care staying though, guess it means we can catch up without awkward silences?”

Noelle sighed and looked again then shook her head. “No, the room simply does not feel right. I cannot put my finger on what it is but I don’t like it.” It was not welcoming, it felt like a room you shouldn’t be in or maybe it reminded her of something else but it needed to change. “I will have your father help me, he usually can name whatever it is I’m feeling when I can’t.” Andre was always more in touch with those things, and was likely the only reason she was able to develop some warmth at all. Noelle called on the head housekeeper/chef to make them some tea and motioned for her son to join her in the sitting room. There they could enjoy their tea while getting a little sunshine at the same time. “My life is far from boring, dear, but nothing particularly new. We’re voting on a new park in the city council but they want it to go on the Southside of town and I think that it would be a waste. They’re just going to destroy it like they did with that roller board park. Graffiti everywhere.” She scoffed and shook her head. “What about you darling, have you considered taking up some business courses at all? It might expand your horizons a bit.” The underlying tone being that she wanted him to do more than just coach a high school football team.

Harvey could see how he was more like his mother than father, maybe not the hard-work that Noelle enjoyed to do but the way he wasn’t really in touch with the sentimental parts of life. He supposed that was also why they were thick as thieves, and why their plan to help Liliana blew up in both of their faces. “He is good like that.” Harvey laughed before he sat down, listening to his mother about the park. He snickered softly, agreeing with her but then he shrugged. “You could like get local kids to design the graffiti that goes on it? Like a mural? Probably won’t destroy something they helped build.” Harvey suggested but he didn’t have much knowledge of Southside, he had definitely been swaddled with the better things in life. “Then again, some of them are just...ill-mannered.” he said confidently but the confidence was knocked out of him at his mother’s suggestion. Harvey’s carelessness about the real world certainly didn’t help him with his life choices, but he always felt second best to his sister when it came to his choices anyways. “I’m good, mom. I like seeing the kids do well and y’know, live their dreams.” he didn’t mean to sound backhanded so he offered a small smile in return.

“Well, yes, but if you’re too busy for your old man and a game of golf then I understand,” Andre says with a good-natured smile, clapping a hand on his son’s shoulder. “Thank you, though, Harv – I always appreciate the help.” Though the Kinship had started as a pet project for Andre, over the years it had become a passion. He’d made it into something he’s quite proud of and as his kids got older, he was glad they seemed to think helping him out wasn’t a complete waste of time. He grins when Harvey agrees and nods. “We can try every noodle joint in this city,” he glances around them, “we just have to finish moving these upstairs and that should be enough for the day. Sound good, bud?” There were people who could help, sure, but Andre liked getting into the nitty gritty of running the inn and he enjoyed bringing Harvey along to help, almost as though showing off what a great person his son is. How many dads can say their almost-thirty year old son was always game to help them on their day off? Andre considers himself more than a little lucky. 

“Nyeh, I guess I could make time.” Harvey joked because it was pretty obvious by now that he enjoyed the time carved out with his dad. The DuPonts were probably only warm hearted because of Andre and Lily but if Harvey thought too long about that, he’d start feeling guilty. “Don’t mention it, dad. I’d rather help out than you do it alone.” he smiled even though he was sure Andre had plenty of people to help, Harvey just liked to prove to himself that he wasn’t a shitty son. It didn’t always convince him, but it helped. “Sounds good to me, I can be bribed with noodles any day of the week. Think they have a wasabi challenge at one place. Think you’d do it?” he suggested, moving into action to help his father. The Kinship had all the vibes you’d expect a place to, the wholesome decor like it was plucked right out of a rancher’s magazine but class too. Harvey definitely didn’t mind crashing in one of the rooms whenever he was too hungover to get home, but those days were somewhat behind him. “Hey, did you ever figure out what color to go with mom? Like the blue slushie thing?”

“Yeah, over the moon.” Lily laughed. She wasn’t sure what sort of sibling bonding Harvey was looking for, or what he expected to happen if they never talked about anything serious. But, she could humor him. Scoffing playfully at his remark, Lily hurried her pace slightly. “Okay first, I wake up and do yoga and then take Loafie for a walk. I’m on the ice for about five hours a day, then I go home, walk Loafie again and then go to the gym.” she proved herself before tugging the straps of her rucksack. “Plus, I’ve never done a hike with a dog that’s refused to walk more than two steps before.” she pointed out Loafie strapped to her back, fluffy head and ears pointed poking out of the holder. “You can time what you want, I’m carrying a heavier load.” she claimed, glancing over her shoulder to the dog. “No offence.”

Harvey listened to his sister but the grin was already appearing because he knew exactly what to say when she was done. “Wow!” he expressed genuinely, glancing to her. “And people say you’re boring, Lils. Just tell ‘em all that and they’ll be proved wrong.” he added with playful sarcasm. He looked at Loafie’s little black eyes at the back of Lily’s head and he scoffed slightly. “I told you not to bring her.” Harvey reminded her even though Loaf was basically attached to his sister. It was like a weird rebound thing Lily did to get over Noah, he thought. “I think she hates being on a leash, maybe just get her out and off and let her run. Or waddle. Whatever corgis do.”

“Aren’t you glad you said yes to this?” Harvey asked to his sister, taking in a deep breath of the fresh air and continuing on the hiking trail. He didn’t wait for her to answer but looked back to see how far behind she was. “You know, you never used to be this slow. There was a moment in time you actually used to be healthier than me. I’m kinda loving this.” he admitted arrogantly but joking as waited for her. “Is now a bad time to admit I’ve been timing us the whole way?” he then added, nodding so she hurried.

Harvey enjoyed helping his dad out at Kinship, it was a good distraction but only until he remembered that his secret wasn’t only hidden from Lily. The whole thing blew up and Harvey and his mom’s face, and he didn’t think either of them knew it would be so difficult to live with. “What’s the plan? You get me to carry around some boxes and then convince me to join you for a game of golf?” Harvey laughed, wandering through the main door. “I’ll say yes if we can try that new noodle bar place thing.”

“Is this your way of telling me you are colour blind, dear?” She asked holding out the three paint samples toward the wall in one of the dens. It was strange how she was so decisive when it came to all things business and family related but when it came to simple things like choosing an accent paint she required input to decide. “They are certainly not all the same shade of blue,” she shook her head. “Focus, mon fils, I beg of you.” When he finally answered and she let out a small scoff. “Did you honestly compare this shade of teal to a disgusting sugar beverage?” She looked at the sample again and shrugged. “I kind of see it I suppose,” she sighed and put them down. “I’ll ask your sister, later. Now sit down I’ll have Marta make us some tea.” 

Harvey shrugged with a cheeky smile, secretly wishing he was color blind. It’d mean he didn’t have to look at color swatches which seemed like a win win. “I think everything looks fine as it is honestly, mom.” he answered her, looking around the room. He supposed it had been the same for a while...but same was good. Not necessarily a bad thing. Harvey listened and rubbed his hands together, feeling triumphant for avoiding having to have any input and sat down opposite his mother. “Don’t need to ask me twice.” he laughed, happy to rest and not do a moment of hard work. “Is anything new with you or is that why you’re becoming an interior designer? Life’s boring?”

When Lily was trying to convince a six year old that the ice was not going to break and reveal a freezing cold lake, she wasn’t expecting to glance to the seats and see her brother of all people. In fact, for most of the lesson she kept watching over to him and wondering what on earth he was doing there. It reminded her of when they were younger, seeing him waving excitedly before she even did anything impressive. Lily eyed him with a playfully suspicious look once the class ended and she approached him, hand on her hip as she stepped off the ice. “Everything sounded great until I heard the letter Z.” she laughed, scrunching her nose. Maybe this was Harvey saying he needed some friends around him, after everything that happened at the school. “Would it make you feel better if I said yes? Or, am I allowed to say hell no not unless that weird woman is sitting in a completely different section?”

Harvey laughed, expecting his sister’s response to be just that. “It’s been years, Lils. Can’t you both just...try? It’d make my life a hell of a lot easier.” he shrugged at her. “I don’t even know why you hate each other.” Harvey added and he wasn’t sure anybody did. Zizi and Lily were like goats, bashing their stubborn heads together for no reason. “How about a hike, then? Think of all those aesthetic af posts for instagram.” he teased but he wondered if it was becoming obvious that he was fighting guilt. A lot of guilt that was harder to ignore. “Am I really that bad to hang out with?” he laughed, standing up from the seat and pointing to the exit so they could leave. “And don’t invite mom or dad, we need a break from trying to be the perfect family. I can’t deal with it right now.”

Watching Lily tutor a class on the ice made Harvey remember all the trips to her practices and competitions. A simpler time of their closeness. He had driven the wedge between them all by himself, and in recent years he tried to avoid having anything to do with her career. Not out of disinterest but guilt, knowing it wasn’t really what she wanted to be doing. It was strange to be sat watching and waiting for her to finish up, and Harvey knew he looked out of place and awkward. “Okay, weird of me to stop by I know, but I was thinking we could go check out that new John Wick movie or something? Maybe Hazel might wanna come and Zizi? And I can like sit between you and Zizi.” It was a shitty attempt at trying to be a normal brother.

“Wouldn’t Lily have a better eye for this sort of thing?” Harvey asked his mom as he stood in the living room, hands on hips pretending to know a thing about interior design. His whole house was exactly what you’d expect a bachelor’s pad to be. He didn’t know the first thing about how make a house a home. “They all look like the same shade of blue to me...” he added, a little hopelessly as his mother held up the different samples. “Actually, wait. That one.” he pointed to the second one. “Looks like slushie from the gas station.”

“There never has been, but I’ll tell you a secret.” Zizi leaned in to mock the infamous secret telling motion. “It’s like that everywhere.” She giggled and straightened again. After traveling around the world, going to appearances and parties, being forced to network with people she thought were interesting she found out most people were boring or insane. She gave him a cheeky smile. “Who me? I know I’m so interesting, right?” Her eyes rolled. Even if she thought she was more interesting than most people in that town, it seemed like she was running out of fun new stories to tell. Maybe she needed to hang out with the old ladies at the Stanley tea room and get all the latest goss on the town. “Of course, I simply could not stand two days in this place without trying to be somewhat comfortable. You better stop complimenting me, I might fall in love or something.” Zizi hummed a laugh. “Ooo, look at you Mr. Culture. That’s actually a really good reference.” She nodded and poured them each a premixed drink. “How’s the little football club team thing going?” She asked handing him his plastic glass.

Harvey laughed as he leaned in before giving a gallant nod to Zizi’s reveal. “I’ll take your word as gospel, Zi. You’ve always been way better at the social thing than I have.” he grinned because it was true. Zizi was like a social butterfly but Harvey preferred to observe and slot into conversations as and when. It was easier, and it was also because of his slight trait of being judgmental. Not many people seemed worth the effort. “I’m being for real, you always got a good story. I like the ones about L.A and all the actors being assholes. Makes me feel better about myself.” he laughed because if an ego was good enough for Brad Pitt then it was good enough for Harvey Dupont. Who knew, maybe Brad’s ego was a facade just like his too. “Hey, maybe that’s the goal? We’d be the hottest in this place that’s for sure.” he laughed again, taking the cup with a wide smile. The reality of two selfish people being together would probably be Hell, especially if his relationship with Salem was anything to go by. “Ahh, nothing fun to report there. Bunch of rich kids being told they’re great every day of their lives, means I gotta play along so their Karen moms don’t get mad. Sorry, K but your kid is dog shit is what I wanna say.”

Liliana wished she knew when her and her brother became so distant. They were close, as they always used to be but it felt different. Like they had grown up into different directions or into different people. It felt like it didn’t matter what she said to comfort him, he was going to find a reason to dispute it. “I don’t think she thinks of it in that way, Harvey. She’s probably grateful someone was there to help.” Lily sighed, and sunk a little in her seat when her brother questioned her own feelings. “I’d feel like you, I guess.” she mumbled reluctantly. “But if I was in Cleo’s situation, I’d not blame you. You’ve both seen something…truly fucked up. You’re being harsh on yourself, Harvey.”

“Lily, you weren’t there.” Harvey snapped quietly, wanting to push away her attempt at helping because it was only making him feel worse. “She started to run the other way and I thought I knew better, told her to follow me. I know you’re trying to help but it’s not.” he said clearly, sighing and feeling a wave of guilt for being so cold to Lily. She didn’t deserve that either. He was the culprit on why everything had gone wrong. “Just...let me process it, alright? Because I don’t even have words for how much blood there was, I’ve never seen anything like it.” Harvey covered his face in his hands for a moment before taking a deep breath and lowering them. “I hate this town, you know that?” If it wasn’t for being able to make friends in shady places, Liliana would have earned her dream. He’d be a good brother.

Seeing death up close was something Cleo thought she had more time before experiencing. She felt stupid for crying about someone she didn’t know, but the adrenaline crash had made her feel emotional and scared.  “I…it’s the shock, I think.” she wiped her face dry quickly when she saw Harvey, embarrassed that she looked like a weak woman who needed protecting. “Don’t be sorry, you were helping.” Cleo answered back to him and shook her head. It was a relief that the scene effected Harvey too, even if he wasn’t blubbering like she was. “Here, sit. Are you okay?” Cleo moved along the seat and tapped the free space it created. “I feel stupid because for years I said I’d think I’d be able to handle an emergency like that, because of all the horror movies I’ve watched.” Cleo sighed, trying to wipe away the tears as they fell. “I learned my lesson now, that’s for sure.”

Harvey didn’t deserve niceness, that’s what he told himself most of the time. His parents certainly helped carve that into his brain. One step in any direction was the wrong one to take, while Liliana flew through life with praise. “Yeah, it still doesn’t feel real.” Harvey nodded to Cleo, surprised that she even invited him to join her. Maybe his sister was right and he was simply being too harsh on himself. “I still feel bad, you were gonna run in a different way and I said to follow me. I’m really sorry, even if you say don’t.” he said, sitting beside her and wishing he could stop her from crying. “Is your er...is she okay?” Harvey asked, looking at the little thing wrapped up in Cleo’s arms. “I thought I’d be better in that kind of situation too. I just feel...I feel so bad for the Joneses. I didn’t really know Jason but, never heard bad things about the family. Not in comparison to...” he sighed. “Do you have anyone here? Family or something? You shouldn’t be alone.”

“It’s okay, you don’t have to talk about it.” Lily frowned, unable to even imagine what it would be like to see something so gruesome. She remained standing as Harvey sat, but it wasn’t for long. After a short and silent few paces, Lily finally joined beside her brother. Despite their differences and frequent sibling-squabbles, Lily knew Harvey like the back of her hand. He cared deeply, even if he tried to seem hardened and tough. It made sense for him to worry more about Cleo and her child than himself. “Harv, you were literally helping them. Because you’re a good person.” she comforted him. “You tried to step up and help someone and their baby, how were you supposed to know?”

It was worse when Lily was being a caring sister, because Harvey knew he didn’t deserve it. It was easier when they tried to annoy one another but whenever Liliana showed she gave a shit about him, the guilt ate him alive. He stared at her when she sat beside him and let out a small scoff. “You’re just saying that so I don’t spiral.” he uttered. “It doesn’t matter what I intended, Lils. Point is I’ve scarred that girl for life. Only good thing is that her baby is way too young to remember.” Harvey rubbed his face, tensing and relaxing his jaw. “How would you feel? You told someone to follow you and basically put them in danger?” he asked his sister. A hint of his tone was confrontational but the rest of it was genuine nerves.

It didn’t matter about their earlier spat. Those were an often occurence. Harvey was her brother first, and annoying second. So, when Lily heard what he had witnessed she made it her sole mission to try and find him in the school. As soon as she saw him, her expression dropped from a determined look to pure concern. What could you say to someone who saw that scene? Let alone comfort a brother who was like an emotional island. “They told me…” she began, voice softer than usual as she slowly offered an arm out to him. “Harvey, there was nothing you could’ve done.” Lily added, knowing all to well the way her brother collapsed into self blame.

Harvey didn’t know he’d feel thankful to hear Lily’s voice until he finally did. He thought hiding out alone would clear his mind, but the quiet was making everything so much louder. No, he didn’t know Kamikaze by name or nickname, but the sight of the blood was clear as day in his mind. He felt worse for pulling Cleo and her baby in that direction, feeling as if he could have caused more danger too. “I know.” Harvey mumbled quietly to himself, embracing Lily quickly. Now he only felt worse for ruining her dreams too. “It just...I know we hear about all the dumb things that happen here but actually seeing it.” he breathed out sharply. “I’ll be fine.” Harvey added, slowly taking a seat. “I feel worse for Cleo, you know who’s mom used to own Little Goat? I dragged her right to...it. And she has a fucking baby.”

Harvey was a lot of things, but not many people knew how much guilt he carried with himself. At first, it was guilt he deserved to feel but eventually he became used to carrying it for whatever reason occurred. He had been roaming the halls before he heard the gunshot, with no one else around except a stranger and her baby, so when the blast echoed he didn’t even think twice about getting her to follow him. Except it was right into the path of a bloody scene, the first dead body either of them had seen in their lives. He caused the stranger to witness that, even if his heart had been in the right place. After speaking to the cops, Harvey was pacing to try and find the stranger again and he spotted her tearful face from across the room. He wasn’t good at apologies, but this was different. “Are you okay?” he asked, sitting beside her slowly. He already hated himself for asking something so stupid. “I’m so sorry, I thought I was running us somewhere safe.”
