shoutout to the butches who didn’t always know they were butch. to the butches who tried so hard to make femininity fit because it was expected of them, who didn’t realize that there was any other option. to the butches who looked up to and admired other butches but didn’t know they, too, were allowed to be butch.
to the butches who didn’t realize until they were adults that it was okay to embrace masculinity, the butches who are still figuring it out, the butches who are afraid they’re not “real” butches because they haven’t known their whole lives.
it’s okay if you didn’t always know, it doesn’t make you any less butch. what matters is that you know now, and you can finally start to express yourself and learn what feels right for you. discovering and embracing your butchness is about freedom, about what makes you happy, and you don’t have to prove to anyone else that you’re butch enough. you are butch enough.
