Screening of TAKE CARE
Hatched Gallery is popping up at Shortwave Cinema on Saturday, December 6th to showcase artist Mohamed-El-Haddi and the first film of his ongoing documentary series entitled TAKE CARE.
The film chronicles the life and work of Vinnette Campbell, a 24/7 at-home family carer, who cares for her 90-year-old father, Terence Campbell, suffering from vascular dementia.
The film takes you through an array of powerful emotions, whether it makes you laugh, touch your heart, empathise with Vinnette's personal journey through caring. Viewers will connect with Vinnette and Terence, the unknown man and woman that you first see appear on screen gradually feel like close friends.
As a part of our screening, Hatched Gallery is holding a lunch fundraiser, serving Caribbean food, in collaboration with the United Anglo-Caribbean Society to which Terence has been a life-long member. The Society provides a place to have a homecooked meal, interact with people his own age and spend quality time with friends.
The menu is as follows: Jerk chicken, vegetables, rice with peas, corn, exotic avocado salad, callaloo, butternut squash and pumpkin soup, hot spicy sweet potatoes, cooked plantains, Jamaican ginger cake.
If you are interested in our film screening and lunch fundraiser, please RSVP to Hatched Gallery purchase your tickets and check for more information about our exciting screening event! Our hope is to raise funds for the charity Dementia Concern, who help families such as Vinnette's and Terence's take care of their loved ones.
For the first time painter Blair Lamar takes the stage. Performing poetry and live painting creating a visually stunning performance captivating the viewers.
Getting started on our TAKE CARE & TAKE HEART installation at Southwark Studios for Saturday November 29th...
Getting excited for our exhibition please see our flyer for more details
Hatched Gallery is pleased to present the TAKE CARE & TAKE HEART INSTALLATION. The two artistic documentary films TAKE CARE and TAKE HEART by Mohamed-El-Haddi were broken up into significant 'tableaux' in order to create an installation. The collaborative work of Blair Lamar and Mohamed-El-Haddi creates an interactive journey in which the viewers play an active part, interacting with various extracts from the films and learning about caring and dementia.
The ongoing docu-series tells the life story of a ‘Family Carer’ Vinnette Campbell, who cares for her 90-year-old father, Terence Campbell, suffering from vascular dementia. Using the Aurasma app and SMART technologies, Blair Lamar and Mohamed-El-Haddi were able to take stills from the films, animate them and create a mixed-media installation, encouraging the visitors to explore a carer's experience, challenges and rewards. As part of this interactive exhibition, there will be a Poetry Slam event on Saturday November 29th at Southwark Studios, 3-6pm. Four poets will perform original pieces they created, inspired from the documentary films, the themes of dementia, caring and getting old. Following this event, artist Blair Lamar will be creating a live art performance with a focus on living with dementia, how it can create struggles within, but also how there is always a way to see a silver lining.
The TAKE CARE & TAKE HEART interactive exhibition is an introduction to the film screening of TAKE CARE by Mohamed-El-Haddi at Shortwave Cinema, showing on Saturday December 6th.
Our hope is to raise awareness about the important role that Dementia Concern plays in the lives of carers such as Vinnette and how they help on a daily basis.

I AM CONGO
I AM CONGO exhibition and accompanying events have been postponed from April until August due to a health related situation. Please check website for further details.
Hatched Gallery in partnership with Carpe Diem is pleased to present I AM CONGO. An exhibition that uses various creative art forms to communicate an important message and bring current issues in Congo to light. Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has."
It is our goal to offer some relief by raising funds for the Panzi Hospital Foundation, A Foundation dedicated to the treatment of survivors of sexually abuse and violence. Currently the hospital is running at maximum capacity and they are always in desperate needs for funds of any kind.
I AM CONGO is an exhibition that uses a creative response to raise awareness of the issues facing Congo. Through various art forms the audience is invited to explore the relationship between themselves and our everyday technology. The Democratic Republic of Congo should be Africa’s richest nation, however the current situation caused by conflict over resources has devastating consequences on the people. Bringing together performers, spoken word poets, and visual artist, we will establish a creative atmosphere of enlightenment and empowerment for viewers. Inviting the audience to immerse themselves in art work to inspire the notion we are all CONGO.

RELATIONS
Hatched Gallery is pleased to present RELATIONS, by Blair Lamar.
In this solo exhibition the artist reveals the processes behind her work and displays her latest oil paintings.
Blair explores the point where shape, colour and human form become one. Her abstract engage the viewer's imagination, inviting them to discover and interpret the recognisable shapes amongst the patterns of colour.
This is the first time that Blair's life drawing sketches are on public view, giving visitors the chance to see the figurative compositions behind each piece.
Adding a second figure to each composition gave Blair's most recent work a new dynamic, as her mind naturally weaved a story of the relationship between them. This narration then had an impact on the colours and shapes of each painting.
Open 12 July - 18 July 2014
