Nigel Mansell was such a little villain.

Nothing illustrates that quite like the stories of his psychological warfare on team mate Riccardo Patrese, back in 1992 Williams:

While Nigel was known for eating generously and not caring much about his diet, Riccardo would work hard to lose weight and stay very fit during the winter break. So Nigel would starve himself before weigh-ins just so he'd show up as lighter than Riccardo on the scale, despite not worrying about his diet at all. He and his engineer would give Riccardo's team the wrong intel during their oficial debriefs, and change his set-ups after he did well in a race, so that Riccardo would copy the wrong ones. When asked about how he managed to be so much quicker than Riccardo through the chicane, Nigel explained he would jam his hands against the chassis so that the wheel wouldn't kick back. Obviously this was a lie, and Riccardo tried it only to skin his knuckles on the cockpit. (Vettel retold this story on top gear back in 2011 btw)

Jo Ramirez, who was McLaren's coordinator, ended up signing Mansell. He retells a funny story with Patrick Head, who was William's technical diretor when Mansell and Patrese were team mates there:

"Oh, god… he was undescribable. Patrick Head told me when Nigel signed with our team, 'I'm not going to tell you anything about Nigel because if I do, you wouldn't believe it. You have to see it to believe it.' And three races down the road he said to me, 'well?' and I replied: 'God have mercy on my soul.'"

Mansell was fired not long after, and the McLaren staff had a champagne celebration.
