[Transcript: I think there does need to be a little bit of hardship in the world.
Of course, not so much so that you struggle with the basic necessities of life. I don't want anyone worried about when they're next meal is coming. I do want the lid of jars to be a too tight sometimes though. I want kids to fall - yes I do - I want kids to fall and scrape their knees. I want grocery bags to break in the street, especially if the round fruit go sprawling in every direction.
I want to turn to the nearest person and wordlessly hand them the jar with the too tight lid. They'll open it, hand it back and we say nothing of it. I want kids to run crying to their caretaker to receive a colorful bandage and go right back to being careless. What do they have to fear? Another fall? A scrape? They only get a bright pink bandaid out of that, maybe a sweet too. Ultimately, they've got the right amount of hardship. The round fruit will be scooped up and handed back with maybe a brand new bag too. Maybe a few more fruit than there were before.
The world is already so big and lids are so tight, and floors are so sharp and uneven, and mistakes are so easy. I'd like to be distressed, just for a little bit, then relieved because I'm human, and there are other humans, so it's going to be alright.
I think we need a little bit of hardship. Just so we remember to depend on other people. Remember we're not alone. And there is always someone stronger than the jar.
