Nothing Like the Movies (Spoilers)

I did like this book, there are some really sweet moments, and the found family is amazing. However, there were a few things that didn't feel right to me, and that kind of put me off a little.

Liz irritated me, the way she acted came across as childish, and I get that breakups are hard but she took it to a whole new level. After so long apart from Wes, she hated romance, didn't like the movie that she once loved and refused to go home for the holidays in case she saw him. Don't get me started on the way she suddenly realised that she loved him, after spending the whole book telling everyone she didn't, when he got hurt!

Now for Wes, he broke up with Liz and lied to her in order to push her away but when they finally saw each other again, the thought that someone else might have her seemed to turn him into a mad man. You lied about cheating and broke up with the girl, so why does your whole world suddenly revolve around her.

Overall, the romance was cute in places, the found family was by far my favorite part... but it lacked in stuff that would have drawn me in a little more. Wes was obviously still really struggling with the passing of his dad, so I would have liked to see some more mention of his mental health (which wasn't great from how I read the story).

A change of Heart at The Vintage Dress Shop (Spoilers)

I really loved this book! Cressida is stuck in a 15-year-long relationship with Colin, until lies are exposed and Miles enters the picture. This book is cute and fluffy, while still dealing with emotions and life. I'm pretty sure from what I read that Cressida is a plus size character, but the writer didn't portray that in the usual way with 'she ate this in a day' or 'She was obese', it was done in a way that showed that Cress was happy in her skin.

From the beginning I didn't really like Cress' ex Colin, he came across as a man child pretty much and that alone very much had me cheering for Miles.

I loved the way that Annie handled the breakup in all, she didn't write it so that Cress broke up with Colin and immediately started dating Miles. There were emotions and thought processes behind Cressida's movements, showing her have these feelings and yet, almost rejecting them because of the breakup.

All in all this book was a really nice read, from the found family at the store and the romance it was a nice blend of emotion and drama.

The Midnight Library

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig is an amazing story and a concept that is both interesting and intricate. It is an adventure through the many lives of Nora Seed, exploring her many different paths through life and touching a little on suicide. 

I really like that this story shows that suicide is something that builds over time, but that there is a way to learn to love life again and that a split second decision could be the someone’s ultimate regret (If you believe in the afterlife).

As for something that I didn’t like, it’s not really something that I didn’t like but I would have liked to have read more from other points of view... so maybe her brother telling his truth and how things impacted him (We see snippets throughout but I would have been interested in something with a little more depth.)

Overall I would recommend this book.

A Witch in Winter

Delve into the magical life of Anna Winterson, riding the wave through her friendships and romance! 

This story started off a little slow for me and it took a while to really get into the flow of the story, but overall it was good. The plot was interesting with twists and turns around most corners, but I didn’t fins everything fully believable... something about a couple of the concepts within was just too much of a stretch.

Fear Street: Missing

The final story in this book was... it was a little harder for me to get into and I can’t really figure out why. The writing was amazing and the characters interesting, but it just didn’t hold my attention like the others. 

That being said, ‘missing’ leads you on a wild goose chase through emotions and theories. However, the ending blew all of my theories out of the water and it was perfect. Throughtout the story we see old faces pop in and out as well introducing new characters, which kinda ties the whole thing together nicely. 

Would I recommend this book to people? Yes I would, it’s suspenseful and takes you some epic journeys.

The Overnight

This story was a little different from the other two in my opinion, which was nice and I found myself immersed in the emotions captured on the pages. From fear to relief to I guess some sort of happiness, it pulled you through it all. 

Although still dealing with highschool kids, the characters introduced were different from the other two stories adding a new sense of freshness. I love how different the characters are and that they are not all perfect, they all have flaws.

Fear Street: The Surprise Party

Well this one definitely took me on a ride! The story starts out and I thought I had a decent grasp on what it was about, but then it shifted. All of a sudden nothing made sense about my original theory and a new one formed, which was backed up with hints from the book. Turns out, neither were right because as I got to the end of the book... HUGE PLOT TWIST! Lmao, loved this story just as much as the first, the story had characters from The New Girl in it, but was an entirely different plot.

I do like to point out what I like and dislike about the stories I read, but there’s honestly nothing I didn’t like. On to the next story: The Overnight.

Fear Street: The New Girl

I went into this read expecting the story to be just like I had seen in the films and was pleasantly surprised when I realized that it wasn’t. This first (There’s four in the book) story is about Cory Brooks and the new girl, Anna. From the get go it’s a whirlwind of teenage angst and obsession, mixed in with the mystery that surrounds this shy, beautiful girl. 

Not to give anything away, I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this first part. R.L.Stine has a great way of making you believe in a story, building it up and ultimately leading you down the wrong path... before revealing the real story.

I can’t wait to read the rest and discover what else is in store.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Unnatural Selection

Growing up, I was a huge fan of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about the books. As much as I love books, sometimes the stories that are written based on TV shows are a little extreme and change how the characters act.

Reading Unnatural Selection I was pleasantly surprised at just how on point the characters were and although Angel was featured, his relationship with Buffy wasn’t a huge factor in the plot. From the first chapter there was tension and it just got better from then on out. 

The backstory of the big bad featured was interesting and there was plenty of it, but not to the point that it was overwhelming (Plus it wasn’t dropped on you all at once).

The only thing that I wished they’d gone more into detail with was the background of the character Hutch, not wanting to give too much away, the twist in the story with his character was a great addition and it would have been nice to hear more about his past (Even if just a little)

All in all, it’s an interesting read and one that I would totally recommend to anyone who is still a fan of the show.Until next time.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before Review

As an avid reader (Or a bookworm) I truly believe that YA Novels should be enjoyed by all ages that are of age to read them, so I decided to read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and I loved it. I must admit that I watched the films first, but as mostly happens with me... the book outshone the movie and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

This story has so many amazing messages within it’s pages, from self-confidence to family unity. Lara Jean from the get go is a dreamer, she fantasizes and yet hides from the real thing when it comes to love. In all the story is captivating (Or perhaps it’s Lara Jean who captivates the reader), either way it’s something that I would definitely recommend.

As for Peter K, I haven’t decided what I think of him yet and that’s okay. At times he comes across as this douchebag teenager and then Jenny Han shows a softer side to him that I’m hoping comes out a little more in the next book(s).
