Remembering Luxo Jr. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Shortly after the 2009 opening of Pixar Place in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort, an animatronic Luxo Jr. (aka the Pixar lamp) started making appearances. Across the street from Toy Story Midway Mania in the building named Luxo Jr Lighting, Luxo would come out of a second story window every 20 minutes and do a little show. During the day he would dance to the beat of country, disco and even a couple of Disney tunes. At night, he would “conduct” the colored lights in the trees of Pixar Place. Sadly, Luxo stopped his appearances in April 2010. Though he suffered his share of technical difficulties, the commonly accepted reason for Luxo’s demise was the litigation between Pixar and the Luxo Company regarding their use of the name and figure.
