fun fact about hunter in sanctuary is that he gets cornered by the isb and considers plan 99-ing himself and it’s also stated that it was one of the first plans the bad batch made for their playbook + he never got cocky about their success rate during the clone wars because he never trusted that there wouldn’t be a day he could and would lose everything

thinking about hunter asking echo when it’ll be enough after he leaves to help rex rescue rogue clones

#people looooove to paint it like a derogatory comment as if hunter has literally fucking ever spoken derogatorily of a brother #crosshair has tried to kill him more times than i can count on one hand and he literally only ever blames himself for that rift between them #echo had been with the batch for like . a year Easy by the time he left again to go with rex and you mean to tell me that hunter #WOULDNT be aware of echo’s survivor’s guilt and how he feels like he NEEDS to be on the front lines for all that he missed and all the death #he might’ve caused regardless whether he was in control of / aware of what he was being used for the entire time the techno union had him?? #you think hunter WOULDNT resonate with his inner struggle for absolution and feeling like there’s things he needs to make up for? #for feeling like there’s mistakes he needs to right even though doing that and putting that much energy into an immovable force #could very well end up being the death of him? #hunter KNOWS what it’s like to feel you’ve made grievous errors and having to grapple with the consequences and guilt of that #crosshair blames him TO HIS FACE for everything that happened to them MULTIPLE TIMES #and it doesn’t matter if crosshair is deflecting / misplacing blame to protect himself because hunter still FEELS IT #and he DOESNT ask echo when he’ll give this all up to be diminutive he’s asking because he wants his brother to FORGIVE HIMSELF and LIVE

sanctuary makes hunter wanting to take wrecker and omega back to pabu after tech dies so fucked because a very big portion of his internal monologue in the book is him Liking the idea of being secluded and somewhere safe from the war and the empire, but not knowing what it means for him as a soldier and how secure pabu can actually Be as a civilian village with no fortification, no weapons, and no way to defend against any major military threats. he also doesn't want to drag his team someplace they don't want to be while also being unwilling to separate his family after everything they've lost already, and he very vocally resents phee when tensions are high for introducing pabu to them in the first place and making it borderline their responsibility to care about and be involved with it. so the fact that there Is no other place for them to run to?? he Has to just jump ship and try to corral his brothers + child to a world he can't even be certain will protect them because its his literal only option left?? AS he's mourning his brother himself / the book makes it very clear hunter feels deeply and just doesn't allow himself to express it ... oh, my honey .

echo looking at hunter and seeing fives, which makes it all the more tragic that they lose tech beyond intrapersonal grief because he gets to see how fives might’ve struggled after echo was presumed dead at the citadel. mayday being deliberately designed and characterized to remind crosshair of hunter in the throes of his imperial brainwashing, and mayday dying in crosshair’s arms thru their inaction being what finally drives him to come home. hunter bad batch you will literally always be so fucking famous for haunting your brothers
