Kanade Yoisaki…but some people call me K. Would you like to listen to a song I made?
[Kanade’s door was closed again. This time, the clicking noises from inside were more incessant, more frustrated. If you strained your ears, you could hear noises of disappointment before the rapid pressing of a key.]
A knock on the door.
It's easily recognizable at this point.
[The clicking from inside grew more intense.]
Kanade-san, chill out for a moment. I can hear you typing, and being that stressed out cannot be good for you.
[There was a pause, before footsteps approached the door. It opened, revealing Kanade. She smiled at Shiho, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes.]
Ah…Shiho. Did you need something…?
I need you to chill out for a bit. I heard how hard you were clicking on your keyboard, and you're obviously forcing that smile. What's wrong?
[Kanade paused.]
Ah…well…I’m in a bit of a slump, I guess. I’m sure it’ll pass, but…I really don’t want to put off finishing this song.
... Why not? It'll always be there afterwards.
I just…I feel like I’m really close to finishing it. I don’t think I’d be able to stop thinking about it even if I took a break.
If you're in a slump, there's no way that you'll be able to finish it. You should take a break either way, you're overworking yourself.
[Kanade turned to look at her computer, before turning back to Shiho with a sigh.]
I suppose you're right...
... You alright?
Yes, just...are you sure I can't make a few more edits...?
Absolutely sure.
Then…maybe it’s best I get out of my room…
Mn. Come to mine instead.
[Kanade nodded.]
Alright.
The rabbit lead the centaur to her room.
[Kanade followed behind without much argument.]
Shiho quickly got to her room, and opening the door, Kanade could have seen that their room was messy with note pages.
... Sorry 'bout the mess.
It’s fine. You’ve already seen the mess of my room, so I can’t exactly judge.
Still, like... You're a guest, should've cleaned up my room first...
It’s fine, really. It really doesn’t both me. Besides, I actually like a little bit of clutter. To me it feels…cozy, I suppose.
Ah, well, I'm glad.
... You doin' alright? You sounded like you were... Not doin' well back there.
[Kanade blinked, surprised.]
Ah…yes, I’m fine. I’ve just been stuck on that song for a while.
Hehe... It's funny. My favorite producer...
...
... She hasn't uploaded in a while. It's a fun coincidence to think about.
[Kanade nodded.]
Creative slumps are difficult. I’m sure she’ll find a way out of it.
Yeah, I know. Recently had one, was not very fun.
Mm. Like I said, though, I’m sure she’ll figure something out.
Yeah, yeah, I know, but... Eh, still.
[Kanade smiled in understanding.]
Oh, also. Remember the Aishite cover I've told you about?
Oh, yes. I do.
I've actually found the file. Should I play it to you?
Oh, sure. I’d love to hear it.
Shiho plays his cover, and it does end up sounding... A bit familiar.
[Kanade paused. She leaned in, straining her ears. Where had she heard this before…?]
Shiho leaned down, chilling out to the song.
...I feel like I've heard this before.
Hm? I... Don't really know where you could have? I did take a bunch of inspiration from BB's cover, so...
Ah, that might be it then. It must just be reminding me of BB's cover.
... Yeah.
[Kanade continued listening, smiling as she began to hum along.]
Hm. Are you... Enjoying it?
[Kanade nodded.]
It’s a good cover. You’re very talented, Shiho.
Mm.. I'm... Glad you think so.
[Kanade nodded again, smiling. She continued to hum along with the cover.]
Shiho started to hum along with Kanade, the both harmonizing.
[Kanade’s looked at Shiho, her expression softening.]
Shiho looked back at Kanade, tilting his head curiously.
Ah- sorry. You just looked very…in your element.
Hm...? What do you... Mean by that?
Hm, well…how do I say this…I guess I just mean that you seem very comfortable around music.
Hm... Well... I guess I do.
I really didn’t mean to stare…but somehow I just couldn’t help it.
Don't worry, it's alright. I... Really don't mind. After all, I do find myself getting lost staring at you sometimes, as well.
Ah…really?
Mn. I just admire you a whole lot, y'know?
Ah…thank you. I think I’ve come to admire you as well, Shiho.
Really...? Uhm... I'm glad...
[Kanade smiled.]
Of course.
Shiho continues humming along to the song.
[Kanade joined in again, a smile on her face.]
