HXR_JAM released!

HXR Jam for Live 10

Haxor just upgraded the Ableton Live to version 10 and once again he needed to take a look into Native Instruments Maschine Jam template for controlling Ableton. For Live 9 - see previous post. 

What’s there? 

As with previous version - the main goal was to fix the issue with User Mode that was conflicting other functionality (Shift + B - for example in Solo and Arm modes). The User Mode is still there - now it is toggled with Shift + Tune button.  

There is also new mode now to load Audio Effects, Midi Effects and Instruments. This Load Mode is available via Shift + Swing button. By default it opens up Audio Effect loading but you can switch pages with Swing button; in the other page you can load MIDI Effects and Instruments (works only for MIDI tracks obviously - if Audio Track is selected then new MIDI track will be created with selected Instrument / MIDI Effect).

TIP: if you press Shift while you load Effect or Instrument - it automatically exits from the Load Mode.

Last but not least there is new layout in Pad Mode - called HXR Vertical. It works basically the same way as Isomorphic Sequential mode works inside Maschine. You can find it inside Pad Mode with Shift + Left/Right keys.

Download package & extract the zip

Open Controller Editor and install HXR Jam 10.ncmj template

Copy HXR Jam10 folder into Ableton Live 10 MIDI scripts folder

Open Ableton Live 10 and select HXR Jam10 for your Control Surface

Shift + Swing: enter/exit Load Mode

Swing: toggle page (first: Audio Effects, second: MIDI Effects + Instruments)

Shift + grid pad: Load selected Effect or Instrument and exit Load Mode

Pad Mode

Shift + Left/Right: select Keyboard Layout

Shift + Tune: enter/exit User Mode

HXR Jam

Haxor is back in mapping business and this time he looked into Native Instruments Maschine Jam and it's template for controlling Ableton Live 9.x.

Disabled so called 'user_mode' that was conflicting other functionality

Added Audio & MIDI Effect loading

Fixed device parameter mapping into touch strips

"I just got an NI Maschine Jam device some weeks ago and I noticed that the Ableton Live template was really buggy..." 

This is where it all started from - bit of decompiling, reverse engineering how the template was created, learning Live's API and so on. And now some days later we have a new template. 

"This mapping is just fixed and bit enhanced version of what Native Instruments created years ago."

Following issues has been fixed from the original template:

Shift + B used to toggle user_mode that was conflicting with Solo/Arm/Mute functionality when user wanted to work on multiple track with Shift button. Now the user_mode is disabled and Solo/Arm/Mute works as expected.

Device Parameter loading into touch strips is now working even some device functionality is disabled. There was an issue of pages not getting loaded because not all parameters were available in the device. (eg. Filter Frequency is not mappable before the Filter is On)

As a new feature you can now load both the MIDI and Audio Effects from the NI Jam controller into selected track in Ableton Live. Here is how it works: Go to clip / session mode and select a track you want to add an effect into. Then press Shift and now the 8x8 Pad Matrix will light up the active buttons:

Row 1: Undo, Redo, Quant, Quant 50%, Semi-, Semi+, Oct-, Oct+

Row 3: Arpeggiator, Chords, MIDI FX Rack, Note Length, Pitch, Random, Scale, Velocity

Row 4: Amp, Audio FX Rack, Auto Pan, Beat Repeat, Cabin, Chorus, Coprus, Dynamic Tube

Row 5: EQ Three, Erosion, External FX, Flanger, Frequency Shifter, Gate, Glue Compressor, Grain Delay

Row 6: Limiter, Looper, Multiband Dynamics, Overdrive, Phaser, Ping Pong Delay, Redux, Resonator

Row 7: Saturator, Tuner

Row 8: Auto Filter, EQ Eight, Compressor, Reverb, Delay, Filter Delay, Spectrum, Utility

Note: if you try to add MIDI effect (from row 3) into Audio track - then new MIDI track is created.

Haxor & Roxor Podcast #007 - DJST by Haxor

Don't Just Stand There! Our first gig in DJST with new fancy equipment is now done and we totally rocked! Thanks to the people foor good vibes. A new gig at the same place is already set up.

This mix was done by Haxor as a backup for the gig, should the technology have failed us. But it didn't. However, this mix has many of the tracks that we played at the gig.

Don't Just Stand There club will host an evening at Baari (Porvoonkatu 19, Helsinki, Finland) on Saturday 12th of November. Dicer mapping for Traktor Scratch Pro 2

Haxor is back with new Traktor mapping. Now I've created custom mapping for Novation Dicer controller including:

Cue points (all four decks)

Beatmasher presets

Beatslicer presets with Sample Deck playback

plus some extra effects

Here is full chart of available controls.

This mapping is based on DJTechTools Dicer mapping from November 2010. I suggest you to watch DJTT video to get the idea how mapping works. The main difference between the original and new mapping is that looping is changed to control the "sub" pages of the mapping.

Please note that this mapping expects the effect units 1 and 3 to be in chained mode and units 2 and 4 to be in advanced mode. Mapping does not change the effect unit modes automatically. Beatslicer mode (Page 2, Mode 2) uses Sample Deck D - Slot 4 for loop playback. Use it with drum loop of current track playing or from some other - try what suits you best.
