I don’t enjoy having to rush my speech - or any part of me - I like to take my time
HEATHERS (1988) dir. Michael Lehmann
I hate being accessible.. when I get rich the first thing I’m buying is isolation
There is no running away from yourself .
Is it just me or does everything feels disconnected
The real temple is the nervous system.
In formal business English that is pronounced:
"I believe we should form an exploratory committee to investigate options going forward."
In a less formal setting you could try the soft no:
"I love your idea, but I have a stupid obligation filling my brain right now so I can't really consider it. Could you send me that in writing, please?"
Both of these work because the people you need to say that sort of thing too twice are, well, not to put too fine a point on it, fundamentally unserious people, but generally posessed of a level of b"nase self-interested cunning that has them avoid any situation where people could hold them accountable for their words and actions.
Thus "in writing" and "in front of witnesses" will force them to find an excuse to stop things, without being able to complain that you said "no".
It's wild that NTs consider these things "soft nos" because to me, they are hard yesses (in the sense that they create a paperwork obligation). Like, if somebody asks me to make a committee and send a description of a plan in writing, I'm going to write out a description of that plan and a recommendation for how to set up the committee and send it as requested, and I'm gonna be extra pissed if they drop it after I've done all that work when they could have just said "that's stupid, fuck off" and not made me spend hours of unpaid overtime.
Like, if somebody's recommending you do something that's going to produce legal liability, they will absolutely balk from putting it in writing, but you could also just tell them "that would create legal problems".
Basically, I hate how "be professional" boils down to "lie in a way that causes problems for other people" instead of, y'know, "tell the truth without yelling".
It's crazy that I read all of this shit🤳
