i think  the worst thing  is that i don’t even hate ric grayson  that much

he’s not a bad character  and isn’t written badly

it’s just not the reason why i read nightwing

neither do i hate the nightwings  that much.   i just don’t connect with them.   we know very little about them

You should never feel bad about enjoying something. Especially if the only reason not to is other people.

Granted the first arc with scarecrow was slow AF. Had a lot of repetitive dialogue. And a bit of inconsistent characterisation. Percy being the biggest offender and the one people refer too as examples. Dick’s/Ric’s character has smoothed out since then.

He comes across as rather cute really, a more innocent version of who he was. Genuinely slowly falling in love with Bea (who is a pretty cool character), rather than just dedicating himself too and finding comfort in being with someone (like Shauna) because the people he loves are unobtainable (Kory/Babs).

There is also a sense of wonder and excitement in discovering himself and his talents again, a sense of wanting to help others and be responsible for them (to be a hero). Compared to having the weight of the world on his shoulders, and honestly dictating his life living up to others expectations (biggest offencers here are Bruce and Barbra). Has Dick ever really given a reason why he still fights crime othe than ‘I can’t imagine doing anything else’? He has on numerous occasions unsuccessfully tried to quit.

There is also the fact that his memories were wiped only to his previous massive trauma, which was his parents death. I wonder if Barbra, Bruce or anyone ever explained what happenedor even just talk about it, you know learning about Zucco, how he became Robin because Batman wanted him have closure. Something he doesn’t have anymore (that scene of him thinking about his parents before he was mugged is proof of that). Or if they (like always) took it for granted because it was something he had previously moved past.

The Nightwings are an odd addition to the story something I didn’t like at first but they have grown on me well two of them anyway. I doubt this is what they had in mind when creating them but Dick/Ric doesn’t know how to control and use himself atm. Each of the NWs have a very prominent personality trait that Dick used to have (wow he isn’t one demensional I’m shocked🙄). Sapienza (leader, patience, by the books good) Hutch (tuff, resilient, friendly, honest) the girl forgot her name (get it done no matter what, reckless) her brother (self doubt, followers orders, probably feels a little trapped into doing this). Anyway if Dick can get these people to succeed bring them together in ways they can’t imagine, unconsciously he will fix himself as well.

Or we can do the cope out way and bring his memory back ‘just because’ that really would make this arc worthless.

Reading and following a character is different for everyone I guess. But for me I have no expectations really just following someone’s story is enough. The highs/ lows and unexpected are all apart of it.

I’d probably take people’s reactions more seriously if they had validity. Every arc of nightwing has been met with hate, e.v.e.r.y...a.r.c. Then they wonder why all the story’s are rushed.

I could go on but then I’ll never stop sorry this was long.

Definitely going to be an unpopular opinion but I found myself growing increasingly annoyed with Nightwing’s screentime this season. People have been quick to complain about supermartian’s continued screentime but I’ve seen very little acknowledgement over just how much Dick gets. On top of that it constantly seems like the writers are setting up avenues for more storylines for him. I don’t dislike Dick but he’s such a popular character who’s never really been hurting for content like some of the other characters on the show so its annoying to see him always at the forefront while other characters get regulated to glorified cameos.

How I see this

In the first series yes it was team focused, but if we are honest it’s mostly Dick, Superboy, Wally and later Artemis focused, with other characters developing around them.

The Second series had no character focus, it just introduced character after character after character (there was a lot of characters) and there was barely any character development (not saying there wasn’t any). But it was a giant mess of stories and the series was cancelled. Probably for other reasons but it was.

Series 3 they seemed to go back to basics the story thus far has had Dick, Superboy and Artemis as the anchor characters and are developing the characters around them. Which in my opinion works much better than what they did in S2. Dick was just the catalyst to bring the characters together. But if the mid season finale is to be believed the second half will have a more team focus. But I wouldn’t count Dick, Superboy or Artemis out they seem to be the main three.

Also I wouldn’t say Dick has more screen time then the other two either. It’s just he is doing things while they seem more home based.

It’s a little like watching a JLA cartoon and complaining that The Trinity are in all the episodes. Any way as I said developing around a focus is much better than throwing stuff in randomly and hoping it works.
