Best Buds Florist Branding & Identity

I am currently working on Best Buds Floristry branding and identity including designing the logo, business cards, stickers and tags. Best Buds Floristry is a local business to Portsmouth, run by my sister and friend. Thinking about the name of the Floristry business I developed the concept of ‘best buds’, having each others back and then through multiple iterations of theBB, back-to-back. However I settled on the full logo being simple and eye-catching with a Rose illustration in the middle. I then kept the BB back to back as a favicon, this was also designed to look like leaves on a stem.

PGS Remembrance Programme

This is a Remembrance Programme design I done for Portsmouth Grammar School. I illustrated poppies and placed them horizontally on each page with a faded image of the sea in the background. The client, suggested the concept within the brief, to be of an image of the ‘dark sea’ to reflect the poem inside the programme – That Saying Goodbye at the Edge of the Dark. 

I decided to layout the illustrated poppies horizontally rather than vertically as when the programme is open, there is more scope for different sizes and lengths of the poppies. I kept the colour pallet to a minimum of the traditional reds and colour picked some blues from the image of the sea.

I Capture the Castle

I Capture the Castle is a programme design I collaborated on, working closely with a senior designer in my last role. This involved artworking the programme to the theatre’s current branding, thinking about different layouts, type sizes and hierarchy of information. 

We completed the programme to a tight deadline, liaising with the client, meeting their requirements and needs whilst advising them on any design issues we encountered such as image resolution etc. Overall we completed the project with a programme design that the client was very pleased with.

East is East Programme

This is a programme design I done for the show East is East for The Northern Stage Theatre. As the show is based in the 70′s I wanted to create a 70′s scene using bold, bright, patterned wallpaper designs and objects the facilitate and make each spread/page look like a wall in a typical 70′s house.

Summer Barbecue Illustrations

St Wilfrids Hospice Icons

During work experience at TGDH, I was given a brief to design and illustrate this set of icons for St Wilfrids Hospice (SWH). These icons were designed to be used across SWH collateral. I designed these in the style of SWH branding, using the pencil tool in illustrator to create the loose, sketchy outlines and off-setting the inside shape to occasionally overlap the outline, sticking to the colour palette and the loose sketchy style.

Healthcare Icons

When I worked for Oiio Care, formerly CLH Healthcare, I designed a set of icons for the furniture catalogue. These could then be used across all of the other collateral.

The Dainty Desk Logo

This is a logo I designed for a client – The Dainty Desk, a virtual assistant who provides professional administrative, technical, or creative assistance to clients remotely. 

The brief was to create a circular logo using the font Brandon Grotesque along with another font of my choice. I designed a few iterations and this is the logo the client went for.

Promotion & Employability

This project was completed in my third year of University – Promotion & Employability. I had to create my own identity by designing my own logo, business cards, website, portfolio and CV mailer. I then designed extra collateral, including a tote bag and some stickers.

The Process of Hand Lettering - Final Major Project

For my FMP, I produced a book: The Process of Hand Lettering. Hand lettering – “The art of drawing letters” A specific combination of letters crafted to be used only for one purpose. Normally drawn to be used as a display type.

By designing this book, it has helped me to develop my hand lettering process and my lettering skills. Not only that it has taught me how valuable the process of hand lettering is. I have learnt to be patient and use my time wisely not just with hand lettering but applying these things to other design briefs too. My book is about the process of hand lettering; the process people go through to get to a final hand lettered piece, looking closely at my process, what is hand lettering? the history, related practices and some of the tools used to help develop the process.

Dissertation Outcome: Portsmouth City Posters

I decided to do my dissertation on City Posters – How has technology influenced the way we view the city and its surroundings within city poster design?

My dissertation was a research project so I had to create a final outcome to accompany my research, I decided the best way to show how technology influences the way we view the city within city poster design was to design a couple of city posters myself; one of the old city and one of the new city, portraying the differences.

Taylor's Coffee YCN Commendation

This is a project I completed in my second year of university, which I submitted to the YCN Student Awards and gained a commendation for my work. The brief was to design a product innovation to make young people from the ages of 16-25 to drink Taylors Coffee; therefore my idea was a Taylor’s 'take-away coffee cup' to attract the young audience.

The product innovation is a set of 3 new flavours that link to the hand drawn quotes/coffee puns. I decided to make different flavours with the product range name as: ‘Taylored to your Taste’ to show that Taylor’s coffee thinks about everybody’ tastes.

I hand-lettered the coffee quotes to give a sense of heritage and craftmanship, which Taylors already convey through their ethos. Each hand-drawn quote is placed on the top of the lids so the younger audience would notice it every time they take a sip.

Falling Book Design

A project completed in my second year of university. I designed a book from a short story – Falling; playing with typography, imagery and repeated patterns. The book is french fold and perfect bound with a screen printed dust jacket.

A Poster about itself 

A university project on a poster about itself. A poster contains information about culture, politics or products and can be designed in a stylish, messy or impactful way. We can find posters everywhere nowadays, not only in paper form but digital too. Posters are a cheap way of advertising especially when placed on the internet, as money is saved on printing. With help from the internet a poster design and its content can go global in minutes.

Sustainable Students App Design

This was a project I completed in my second year of university; an app design along with a packaging design example to show how much students can save money by re-using old packaging in fun and interesting ways.
