I am mostly biased towards RadioApple and AppleDust, but I can be convinced to enjoy just about any ship if the writing and characterization is solid, and I also enjoy plenty of gen fics. Human AU fic recs please!

Heya! Here are my favorite Human AUs, separated by ship:

RadioApple

The Totally Normal Coffee Shop. by anantipodean (Not rated but if it was it'd probably be T, QPR, complete) is the most delightful tale of Lucifer taking on a position as a barista at a coffee shop owned by Angel Dust's family, meeting a "debt collector" named Alastor, and being the most hilariously, adorably oblivious person on the planet.

You bring the worst out of me by RoxaHazbinHere (Rated E, ongoing) is a MOSTLY human AU, in which Alastor is human and his recently-reunited childhood friend Lucifer is Decidedly Not. :D

The Murderer's Two Step by anantipodean (Rated T, complete) is a glorious, glorious murder mystery fic that I've previously gushed about here.

The lunatics have taken over the asylum by TrashDemonx (Rated E, ongoing), colloquially referred to as the Mad Doc AU series, is another "mostly human AU" in which Alastor is THE worst psychiatric doctor, and Very-Much-The-Devil Lucifer, disguised as the asylum's new patient, is delighted by his sinful new "conquest". This story features mutual toxicity in the best of ways, and I especially love the way the kinks are worked into it: I usually have limits personally as far as humiliation fetish goes, but when the recipient is as Unabashedly Terrible as this one is, and when the worst-case scenario is "you die and then you just wind up swapping locale and continuing to get up to your kinky shenanigans in Hell", it means there are functionally zero limits for how far they could go, and I for one am here for it. :P

You're So Bright In My Eyes by titanic_trash (Rated E, ongoing) is a medieval-style AU, which has a fascinating sense of multidimensional politics as well as characterization!

The Five Senses of You by MixkaRules18 (Rated E, ongoing) is THE Piercing AU. Gloriously smutty, and it has inspired several folks to get piercings of their own! Including one of my friends, literally today!

Hope Against Hope by OrlesianHat (Rated E, complete) is a completed short fic in which RadioApple has a blind date, and it is the perfect combination of sweet, smutty, and What The Fuck Alastor. xD

Something in Me Understood by winterveritas (Rated E) is a Mostly-Human AU where Alastor meets the mysterious owner of a bookstore, and they bond over puns. Honestly I am WAY overdue for a reread of this one, the vibes are the perfect combination of murdery and cozy. <3

Strange Appetites by Gotllphi (Rated E, ongoing) is one I've loved for AGES, I've written about it here.

RadioBelle

ethical egoism by Anonymous (Rated E) is a red-hot human AU in which Alastor is Charlie's ethics professor, and he sees that his overachiever student Charlie is flagging, and goes to...investigate, her new nighttime job.

Right Round by BoyToyNamedNoiz (Rated E) is a completely unrelated fic in which Alastor is significantly older than Charlie and goes to see her at a strip club for Reasons! xD (I really enjoy this trope with this pairing, sue me. :P) And this fic also features a fascinating dynamic in which Alastor and Lucifer have an unspecified QPR going on. Alastor is the very picture of kindly domesticity around Lucifer, while bringing out his feral side around Charlie, and it is DELIGHTFUL.

All Dressed Up for a Hit and Run by eternalscout (4k words, oneshot) is a HILARIOUS oneshot featuring Established Post-S2 AppleMedia shenanigans, and it has some exquisite banter!

An Attempt at the Angelic Throne by CrappyWriterFailing (6k, oneshot) is a non-established relationship Alternate Take on what could have happened in the aftermath of S2E6! Fair warning, this one is mainly just RadioApple clowning on Vox, but the dynamics between the three of them are definitely fun here, and it's a neat lil snapshot into that span of time between episodes where folks were going creatively nuts over the possibilities for the finale! :D

Smutty

Neon Medusa by TrashDemonx (21k words, complete) is RadioApple with bonus Vox-in-the-cuck-chair, just some good-quality PWP for those so inclined. ^.^

You and Me and the Devil Makes Three by MothballMilkshake (16k words, complete) is the opposite: RadioStatic with bonus Lucifer! Though they notably treat him a lot nicer in this one than Vox is treated in Neon Medusa. xD

Two’s Company, Three’s a Good Time by MixkaRules18 (10k words, complete) is for the Human AU fans out there - this one's a Sugar Baby AU, and the amount of snark packed into this PWP is delightful.

The Devil's Knitting Circle by Fiishes (Fishes), Fishes

This RadioApple series is a must-read, especially for fans of "slowburn but they're fucking the whole time"!! It goes along the route of an "alternate Season 2 plotline", in which certain elements shifting cause other characters to make different decisions for a different overall plot, and it's a long one, 173k words and counting. There are three fully-plotted fics in the works, as well as a standalone Husk-focused fic and another fic that features delightful plot-related drawings by the author.

I love this fic's approach to Lucifer's character: he doesn't care about sinners, and it takes more than a sob story to make him care. Because he's millennia old; of *course* he knows sinners have often had hard lives. That's why he keeps such distance: he's terrified of caring. But he still has standards for his own behavior, and he still cares about Charlie's opinions, and those work together as a brilliant starting point for his character arc.

Additionally, Lucifer frequently "zones out" in this fic, often for extended periods of time. The way he constantly tries to stay present is actually kind of heartbreaking to see, especially when you can also see just how understandably frustrated it makes Charlie. I absolutely love how that's handled here!

Also, OMGOMGOMG HUSK: So one fic in this series, Royal Flush, is a prequel describing how and why Alastor had taken Husk down as an Overlord. Whether you read the rest of the series or not, this provides a FASCINATING take on each of their characters, and the dramatic irony as Husk underestimates Alastor at every turn is DELICIOUS. You catch glimpses of that story in the main series, but either works great as a standalone.

The RadioApple is RadioAppling in this fic, and the slightly more background HuskerDust is HuskerDusting, and there's a FANTASTIC platonic RadioDust thread which makes me happy EVERY time it comes into focus.

I can't get enough of this series, and I hope you enjoy it, too!

Hello! I hope I’m not repeating a question You’ve gotten before. Do you have any Xreader recommendations? It’s a majority of what I read, as I don’t normally go for show ships, so if you had any I’d greatly appreciate it. Have a good night!

I've never actually read any XReaders for this fandom, so I did a bit of crowdsourcing! Here are the recommendations that came in:

A Misdemeanor Of The Heart by RedKitsune (Rated E, content warning for a ton of gore apparently, complete with in-progress sequel, 217k words) is an Human Alastor/Reader fic in which the Reader is in an abusive relationship and carries on an affair with Alastor the radio host/murderer.

And a recommendation from Keira: I would recommend @willoryn and @heart-of-the-morningstar on tumblr! Willo mainly does small drabbles and answering requests but heart-of-the-Morningstar does longer one shots and stuff! If it matters they both do lucifer x reader (and either both or just Willo includes Lilith in there as well)

Alright, so one of my ABSOLUTE favorite fanfics, The Murderer's Two Step by anantipodean, features a highly combative RadioApple QPR relationship. I've written a loving rambly essay about it here!

Additionally, the same author has several more novel-length fics, many of which feature QPR RadioApple relationships! Definitely recommend checking those out.

Splitting at the Seams by eggnut (Rated T, ongoing, CW: a ton of medical details as Lucifer nonmagically heals Alastor) is gorgeous, and I'm excited to see where the author chooses to take the relationship! It features some brilliant characterization, as well as the aforementioned Metric Ton Of Medical Details. Fascinating stuff!

Bedtime Rituals to Try out Before the Next Angelic War by Budinca (Rated T, multichapter, complete) is ADORABLE; it features such a gentle buildup, and a fascinating exploration of both mental health and worldbuilding (through the sentience of the Hotel itself)!

A fic I'd recently recommended on my Post-Season 2 Recommendations list is Touching You, Touching Me by titanic_trash (Rated M, oneshot), an exploration of touch-aversion and PTSD!

For the fans of Explorations of Touch-Aversion Through Smut, Drink Menu by BrimstoneCoffee (Rated E, series, ongoing) is SUCH a treat! It's the level of smut that I would recommend against reading in public, and the characterization and genuine closeness they experience over the course of it is EXQUISITE.

gentlemen prefer blondes (but I'm not classically trained) by CandyWraptor, FrostbiteFable (Rated E but hasn't gotten there yet, ongoing) is another gorgeous in-progress fic featuring Alastor's touch aversion! It involves a great deal of transactionality and the Actually-Fun-To-Read type of misunderstandings (the kind where it makes PERFECT sense that each of them would be viewing things in conflicting ways, based on who they are as people, rather than "help we needed a conflict so Here's A Misunderstanding")! And the Ace Panic and resultant Expectations Management/Figurings-Out is GLORIOUS. No clue how the relationship will resolve (though the E rating does give some implication xD), but they've certainly done plenty of Sexuality Exploration!

Have you read anything new that really stands out to you? There been so much post since Season 2 and I'm struggling find the best new ones

Ooh, good question! So, here is my post of Season 2-specific fanfic recommendations, but that's a slightly different question to "what NEW fics do you enjoy", because there are some new ones that don't take Season 2 into account (as well as a couple I've read since making that post), and there are some real gems from that crowd, too!

So, for new favorite fics that DIDN'T make it into that post:

Post Season Mix by sorcerousfang (Rated T, no ships, series, complete, CW: graphic depiction of injury) is a GORGEOUS take on Alastor's injury and his trust issues, and especially his contentious relationship with Husk. The two fics in this series are called "I Don't Care (But I'm Here)" and "I Can't Trust (But I Have No Choice)", and they tell the same exact story from the perspective of Husk and Alastor, respectively. The perspective shift is GLORIOUS, and both fics also make brilliant standalones.

And for a COMPLETELY different (read: smutty) vibe, Taking In the View by keelywolfe (Rated E, RadioApple, ongoing) is a real treat for fans of voyeurism! @keelywolfe said it was just gonna be a couple snippets of Random Writing Exercise, but the plot may or may not be sprouting legs, and even if it doesn't and this is all we get, what's there is fantastic and I highly recommend giving it a read!

And in yet another case of Vibe Whiplash, Alastor Marries the Chair by CeilingFrog (Rated G, RadioRoller aka Chairlastor aka RadioChair, oneshot) is 384 of the funniest words I've ever read. If you have like 45 seconds to spare, I highly recommend reading it. XD

And I can't leave out my other favorite RadioRoller fic, Keep Rolling Rolling Rolling by @cyanjockstrap (Rated E, RadioRoller, complete)! Yes it is rated E, yes Alastor *does* fuck a chair, but if you would prefer to avoid the Chairfuckening, Chapter 1 works as a perfectly lovely standalone fic in which Alastor forms an emotional bond with the rolling office chair he'd been stuck to for most of Season 2.

How do you feel about the Alastor!executioner theory? Do you have any fic recs? (Featuring platonic or romantic radioapple)

While I love the executioner theory and feel like it has a TON of potential in the show, I actually haven't read any Executioner-Alastor fanfics! So I went to the lovely KR_Luna, who'd recently run a DTIYS/WTIYS ("draw/write this in your style") event focused on Executioner-Alastor! (Link leads to the DTIYS results, for fanart of the prompt!)

So the most Jealous Vox oneshot ever to have Jealous Voxed is probably Save Image As... by Coleoidea (Rated M, RadioApple, oneshot). Short, sweet, and QUITE cathartic for the discerning RadioSilence fan!!

For a more emotionally complex RadioSilence situation, I'd recommend The Friends that Ruin You by number1trashenthusiast (Rated M, RadioApple, first in series is complete, second is ongoing but literally three chapters from completion and is being published on a schedule, so if you start now then you should be able to celebrate the finale with the rest of us!). It dives DEEP into Alastor and Vox's fucked-up past, and the RadioSilence is palpable and complex. Jealousy is certainly one of the MANY emotions associated with it!

Additionally, if you enjoy smut and human AUs, Mixka's Piercing Series could be your cuppa tea! The Five Senses of You by MixkaRules18 (Rated E, RadioApple, ongoing series) involves Alastor as a piercing specialist and Lucifer as a divorcee who gets the hots for his piercer during a tongue piercing. The series combines smut and plot/characterization beautifully, and it features quite the Vox-jealousy plotline!

Another series that features this dynamic is The Music Between Us by DarcyDarling (Rated E, RadioApple, Omegaverse, technically-ongoing series but the main storyline is complete); it features a Vox who puts his voyeur bots to use, fucks around and finds out!

This is my favorite ask I've received thus far; thanks for that!! I had to put some thought into what tags I keep going back to, since I so often have hankerings for different types of things.

Time Travel Fix-It

While it doesn't have this particular tag, Haven’t been the same since I expired by kitsunesongs (Rated M, ongoing, last updated Literally Today, eventual Alastor/Lucifer/Lilith, 65k words and counting) is a fantastic example of my favorite aspects of this trope! In this fic, Alastor is sent back to when he'd first entered Hell, and he decides to make a different name for himself this time. Not because he wants to be good or anything - no, he just missed being able to show up at a party or a live band without everyone fleeing at the sight of him. So he becomes Charlie's nanny instead, and receives the admiration of both Lucifer and Lilith in the process.

Time Loop

Star-Crossed by floatycat (Rated M, completed, RadioApple, 79k words) is a beautiful timeloop romance! Such a treat for fans of the trope - very sweet, and with a great sexuality exploration on Alastor's part and some platonic RadioDust!

Tempus Mutat Omnia by Snapeaholic98 (Rated E, ongoing but almost completed, RadioApple, 90k words so far) is a spicier take on "what if Alastor and Lucifer were stuck in a timeloop together", always brilliant on the reread!

Gay Chicken (or "Relationship Chicken", as I call it, in circumstances where it's just a matter of combatively escalating affection without really bringing "no homo" into it)

Self-promo time, because this is one of those situations where I wrote the fic I wanted to see in the world: Unaffected by CursedCatJoules (Rated E, oneshot, RadioApple) involves a bet about which of them would be less "affected" by sexual situations (where Alastor is simply not inclined towards being turned on, while Lucifer considers himself experienced enough to have a handle on his libido - notably, both are also hubristic little shits).

A Game We Didn't Know We Played by MothballMilkshake (Rated E, oneshot but BE WARNED you may then get the hankering to read her entire completed 557k epic "Stolen Moments" afterwards since this serves as kind of a prequel, RadioApple), while not having the tag itself, encapsulates the vibe perfectly! This features Alastor and Lucifer accidentally challenging each other to a hookup, then stubbornly going through with it. You'd think this would've inspired my fic, but I actually hadn't read it before writing it!

Body Swap

Freaky Friday by titanic_trash (Rated E, oneshot, RadioApple) involves a temporary body swap scenario where they hook up and Alastor gets to take his own virginity!

More self-promo: The Freakiest Friday by CursedCatJoules (Rated E, ongoing, hasn't been updated in a hot minute but I SWEAR I'M SO CLOSE TO FINISHING CHAPTER 4, multiship feat. AppleDust, Chaggie, and solo Alastor) involves a temporary genital-only bodyswap situation for the entire hotel, plus the Vees! Very cracky, and there's plenty of smut to go with it!

Amnesia

I recently recommended this already, but Rewind by JadeTigress (incomplete, last updated in 2020, Rated M but no sexual content and just some canon-typical blood, RadioDust) has the most intriguing amnesia plotline I've ever seen, and even if it's incomplete, I would highly recommend giving it a read! This features a Pilot!Alastor who gets amnesia, can't remember anything from his time in Hell whatsoever, and just...doesn't tell anyone. It's the most realistic character decision I've ever seen for him; he literally just yes-ands everyone else's reactions to him, and coasts through every social interaction that way, it's hilarious!

A recent favorite: same old song and dance by marsh5000 (Rated M, Ongoing, RadioStatic) involves Vox losing his memory of everything since dying, and the Vees helping him out. Meanwhile, Alastor is delightfully perplexed-yet-scheming as he gets to know this new-old Vox. I love how this fic gets me to question whether Alastor would take this particular opportunity if it were offered, the possibility of starting over with Vox.

Say It by sanguinolency (Rated T, complete, RadioApple) is SOOOOO sweet!!! It features a RadioApple in which Lucifer thinks Alastor is his husband after getting temporary amnesia, and Alastor is so perplexed that he just kinda rolls with it for a bit. It is AMAZING.

...And finally, anyone who knows me from the Hazbin Discord servers will know that I am a FIEND for the Somnophilia tag. Blanket CW for noncon here, or at MOST very very dubious consent; while there are plenty of lovely fics out there that feature consensual somnophilia between established partners who have given consent ahead of time, these particular recommendations are notably...Not That.

Selfless Sin by Fluffyboots (Rated E, Oneshot, RadioBelle) honestly makes for a fascinating character study of Charlie while also being hot as hell, pun intended. She is the perpetrator in this case, and it dives into every rationalization her mind conjures up for why it's okay that she's doing this, it's fine actually for her to take this juuuuuuust one step farther, and the result is a delightfully depraved fic that highlights the way Charlie could justify damn near anything she wants to herself (and this is coming from someone who is NOT on the Charlie Morningstar Hate Train, just someone who finds the character fascinating for better and worse).

Naughty Night by Anonymous (Rated E, Ongoing Multichapter, RadioApple) is highly self-indulgent on the author's part, and I love every update. Lucifer is the perpetrator, Alastor is the recipient/victim, and the details are very much A Thing. There might be some plot sneaking its way into the PWP, but I have no idea, and I'm strapped in for the long haul either way!

My Absolute Top-Tier Favorite RadioDust fic is, alas, an unfinished masterpiece:

Rewind by JadeTigress (Rated M, incomplete as of 2020) features the most FASCINATING premise, in which Alastor gets his memories of Hell wiped from him, and instead of telling anyone he can't remember anything, he just kinda "yes-and"s everyone's attitudes towards him. And this largely works in his favor, except when it comes to Angel Dust's flirting. So now they're BOTH confused. xD It may be unfinished, and may indeed stay that way (who knows, I'm subscribed just in case!), but it makes for FASCINATING food for thought, and a fun set of daydreams for what this particular pair's future might hold. :P

A Quiet Afternoon by InkPhoenix (Rated E, oneshot) is a RadioAppleDust (Alastor/Angel Dust/Lucifer) fic, so.................whether this counts or not depends ENTIRELY on your own perspective. It's a multishipper's dream, though! It features an established and very sweet RadioDust relationship, in which they try Lucifer on for size for the first time. I love how all three of them appreciate the aspects of the other two's ship: Lucifer appreciates the way Alastor and Angel check in with each other throughout, Angel appreciates the chaotic RadioApple dick-measuring contests, and Alastor appreciates the innate gentleness of AppleDust.

Five Times Angel Called Alastor Daddy by LadyMostDeject is a fun one (Rated E, incomplete as of Sept 2025), which is exactly as it says on the tin, and I can guarantee it's a delight even for those without daddy fetishes!

And while I have not read this one personally, Anguish of the Marrow by JayJBird94 (Rated M, holy shit this thing has 731k words and counting???) was personally recommended by The RadioDust Fan in my life, with the following commentary: "It was started when the pilot was all we had so unique take on alastors powers. Alastor has a BEAUTIFUL relationship emotionally with everyone because he is portrayed as a narcissist to the extreme but highly aware of it. Angel is a badass and coping"

Additionally, that same friend recommends skimming the author JayJBird's public bookmarks for more RadioDust fics!

hello hello joules!!

i have a request and i figure if it's something i'm looking for, it's something other people are looking for too.

it is very difficult to do a tag search on AO3 for what i've been calling Not-Smut (e.g. the type of dynamic in Coming Apart at the Seams) where they're not, *not* having sex in the loosest, queerest sense of the word, but they're also definitely not having Normie Sex. y'know what i mean?

i am interested in any and all pairings and mostly none of the big four AO3 warnings! (graphic violence is fine if we're talkin' some radio-whoever cannibalism though.)

Ooh, this is a fun one!

So besides the one you'd mentioned, Coming apart at the seams by PuffinStack, there's one series that primarily comes to mind:

A Gentlemen's Accord, If You Will by walkingcatfish (rated E, ongoing RadioApple series). This fic series starts with a RadioApple "Alastor cannibalizes Lucifer and Lucifer is into it" vibe, and stays largely "nonsexually erotic" until they get to some period-eating and Alastor has to contend with the fact that what he just did may in fact count as sex. It is a glorious Ace Panic scene, and these two are *genuinely* hilarious throughout the entirety of the series; I highly recommend it!

And in terms of fics I've recommended previously:

Strange Appetites by Gotllphi (rated E, ongoing RadioApple longfic), which I have a full post about on this blog, is a great diagetic BDSM piece featuring graphic RadioApple cannibalism and torture, but entirely within the coziest romcom setting (again, it's an "Alastor cannibalizes Lucifer and Lucifer is into it" fic)!

And in "literally my favorite RadioStatic fic because these two are simply Ridiculous" territory, I will re-recommend Vintage Electronics by ckret2 - it lives up to its tag of "folks lemme be straight with you: sex acts may or may not be happening but this ain't smut." xD

Thanks so much!! There are a ton of brilliant post-S2 fics out there, I'm excited to dive into answering this ask!

Of those I've already posted about, Silver Stars by pumpkabae (rated E, ongoing, AppleDust longfic) was written with post-S2 events in mind (though it starts out set mid-S1).

A Tail of Two Demons by Otoshigo (Rated T, complete, RadioApple oneshot) is one in which Lucifer rescues Alastor from Vox, disrupting his plans, and decides to take "Alastor does not have a tail" as a personal insult. xD

New Fic Recs:

Same As It Ever Was by Otoshigo (Rated T, complete, RadioApple oneshot): in which Lucifer has Sustained Traumatic Memory Issues from the events of Season 2; this one is so bittersweet! More sweet than bitter, though. :)

Survival Scars by Otoshigo (Rated T, complete, gen oneshot): I cannot resist an Otoshigo fic, I swear! But yes, this is "RadioApple for non-RadioApple Enjoyers", in that it's not particularly romantic/sexual at all, while focusing on their relationship. In essence, Alastor decides that while he wants to take down Lucifer, he must ensure Lucifer is in prime health first, or else it just won't *count*.

Additionally, MixkaRules18 and TrashDemonx have each written some fantastic rated-E (largely RadioApple, some RadioStatic) fics since the new season has come out, honing in on particular details within the season (e.g. Mixka's "Show Me Sloppy", which is exactly what you'd expect from the title, or their joint fic "Get Ducked (Literally)")!

MothballMilkshake has also written many, MANY fics (largely RadioApple and RadioStatic, with some Vees thrown in) since Season 2 aired, which seamlessly integrate the revelations from Season 2 into their plotlines!

For Velvette fans, Coming apart at the seams by PuffinStack (rated M, complete, Velvette&Vox oneshot) is a fascinating treat - it's Only Maybe Smut (But Your Mileage May Vary), in which Vox performs routine maintenance on Velvette's doll body and she gets turned on in the process (though no traditional fucking occurs).

Disassembly Required by Jethro_P38 (rated E in later chapters, complete, RadioApple) is a GORGEOUS fic, in which I'd recommend reading the first chapter even if you'd prefer not to read smut - it provides such a melancholy, insightful discussion between a thoroughly beaten-down Lucifer and Alastor, it's gorgeous!

For the soulmate AU fans out there, Little Green Apples by MothballMilkshake (rated E, ongoing, RadioApple) is shaping up to be a really fun one! (Notably, this soulmate AU acknowledges things like faded soulmarks and More Than One Soulmate and the like, avoiding many of the Implication Pitfalls of traditional soulmate AUs.)

Touching You, Touching Me by titanic_trash (rated M, completed, RadioApple oneshot) is a beautiful, emotional piece depicting Lucifer and Alastor's shared recovery from Vox's actions, through the lens of touch aversion and relationship boundary communication.

Hard To Clean by SolCaeruleus (rated M in entirely nonsexual ways, completed, gen fic) is just as beautifully painful as any of their other work; they really have In-Character Angst down to a science! This fic depicts Niffty realizing Alastor is Very Very Not Okay, and it's set in the first half of Season 2.
