So many adventures...
The last eight months have seen grad school and adventures in Germany, Spain and Ireland, and deserve proper posts. But no time now, we’re off on a little mid-west tour. Come say hi if you can!

Captive - Hazel Ra @ ArtFarm, Nebraska
Made during the 2012 residency at ArtFarm in a razed corn field near Marquette, NE. Featuring verse written by Hazel Hall, this song is a musical setting and personal reflection on the original poem.

"Something we are not" - a forgotten video from ArtFarm Nebraska, written for a glass house, with quilted interior during the 2012 ArtFarm residency.
Dream-folk
A small collection of rough drafts recorded at my new home in St. Louis, MO. I will add more songs, as soon as they are written.

This is rough recording of a new song, written on a dark Friday night.
I've decided to start sharing some raw recordings of new songs, sketches and works in progress. They are captured moments, unpolished and rough around the edges, direct from me, to you.
When Hazel played the bouncy-ball piano music machine at Elsewhere.
When we disturbed a thousand-thousand swans on Assateague.
"Red" - A new song captured by Dave and co. at Medusa in Gainesville, FL.
Alabama, Georgia, and Florida
We made our way from New Orleans into the welcoming arms of Montevallo, Huntsville, and Florence, Alabama. First, we discovered the Ave Maria Grotto, where tiny, sacred worlds were built into the hillside out of bits of broken things, glass, marbles, and seashells. In Huntsville, we were hosted by Gregory and Alex, in a house full of colors, singing birds, and art. We enjoyed artisan chocolate and new friends, who reminded us why we continue down this road of uncertainties. We are often so pleasantly surprised.
In Georgia, we played with Mipso in Atlanta, and Evan and Avery in Athens, two shows that felt as satisfying as the grits and biscuits in our bellies. Thank you to Dani Moulia for hosting us!
In Florida, we lay on white sand beaches and sipped coconuts, until we were rather pink and salty. We traveled all the way down to Key West, where we played long sets at the Rum Barrell. In Miami, Antonia Wright and Reuben Millares hosted us at their beautiful art studio, and we met so many kind and creative folks. We had cuban coffee and empanadas, saw packs of wild dogs roaming the street, and coconuts falling in the parking lot.
While we drove north, we saw clouds of vultures soaring overhead, through the wetland forests of east Florida. The rain came to us at last, and in Gainesville, we played the coziest little house show at Ricky Kendal and Heather's house. With a few extra hours in the morning, we were lucky enough to make a take-away music video with Dave at Medusa Studios, which we will post as soon as it is ready!
In Savannah, GA we played at Graveface Records with Heavy Boots, and enjoyed free museum Sunday, walking around the gorgeous city with our new friends.
We have come near to the end, with only one more show in Marshall, NC. In some ways, this tour has been about seeking out the light. It has been a "Shadows" tour, in which I've learned to let go of all of my ghosts. It is movement that allows us to be fluid and love each moment fully, and sunlight that brings us peace this winter. We are so grateful for this opportunity to travel and meet so many inspiring people.
Austin and New Orleans
We've arrived in the lands of sunlight, and we feel so very blessed to spend some time here. We've played a number of house shows with some of our favorite people- Dwight Smith, Julia Lucille, The Loblolly Boy, Kia Ochun, Billy Cook, Michael Smith and My Graveyard Jaw. Thank you to all of you kind and inspiring loves!
When we first stepped out of the car in Austin, I noticed how many kites are stuck in the trees down by the river, and in the winter, they are bright and hopeful against the bare sky. We had the most amazing time, filled with bike rides, good coffee, texas barbecue and huge breakfast tacos. Roger Sollenberger was such a generous host! While we were there, we experienced, what I would call an intimate rager of a house show, hosted by Luke Kalloch.
On the way to New Orleans, we experienced "The Best Stop" and their amazing Boudin balls, following the advice of Michael the gator-wrassler, saw player extraordinaire.
And oh, New Orleans, I don't know what to say. You've impressed me and inspired me beyond belief. The city, so alive and so real, where celebration is a way of life, and time feels like the slow and unnoticeable flow of the river. We drank and we danced, we feasted and we fell in love with so many of you wonderful people. The shows we played, hosted by the Mudlark Theater and Eleanor Warner and Co., warmed my heart so thoroughly, I still feel red in the cheeks.
Our time in Austin and New Orleans has renewed in me the feeling that music is life, that just like breathing and talking, it is the way we survive and communicate and love each other.
Tonight we play in Montevallo, Alabama, and for the next few weeks, we will travel through the south, to places we have never been. How exciting!
