so ilya is trying to do this gently because he doesn't want to hurt him, but unfortunately this means being SO gentle that what high!shane gets is "i can't come see you more before i leave because it would be too hard" and shane is "okay :( i understand :(" because yeah, their team prob leaves soon and it was already nice that he made it here once, so that's okay :)
but then shane gets out of the hospital AND DOESN'T RECALL THAT HE WAS BROKEN UP WITH, so he keeps texting ilya, and ilya thinks it's just him trying to hold on, so ilya just doesn't respond because he wants this to be as easy as possible and if he just doesn't respond-
and then there's a knock at the door.
and in a reversal of the tuna meltdown, he is now facing a shane hollander who WON'T leave his house without talking because shane thought it was still grief about his dad or something and got worried and came to see him. and look. ilya is only human. shane is in front of him and beautiful and worried and so of COURSE they fall into bed together again, and this time shane falls asleep there and stays all night and like. okay. if hollander is this determined to make this work, maybe ilya just has to get a little braver, too.
and all goes well until the day ilya SO affectionately goes
"i'm glad you didn't listen to me"
"what? when did i not listen to you? 🤨"
*still SO soft and affectionate and sweet because shane pushed back and it's thanks to that they got here <3* "when i said we should break up and stop seeing each-"
*shane, sitting up so fast he almost pulls something* "when you WHAT?!"
It's very important to me that Shane finds Ilya extremely adorable. Like yes, that is the hottest man he's ever seen, but like, that's also the man who puff out his cheeks, frown and sigh dramaticly at the minorest of inconveniences, that man, atleast to Shane, is so so cute Shane sometimes has to clench his fists to let the cuteness aggression subside because it's either this or he's squeezing Ilya's face until he looks like a puffer fish and kissing him all over.

I am a fan of the dynamic where there's no leak and Shane moves to the Cens of his own accord and then Shane and Ilya never come out exactly but they just live openly and all these dumbass hockey players are just like

This scene was so funny bc he literally just could have been like "Ok buddy I'm heading out see you later" and instead went full autism mode like " ok. Um. Im going now.... to see Someone. A person. I enjoy GREATLY the fact that Shane loooves Ilya being an asshole. Like other ppl would be fuming about whatever Rozanov said to piss them off while Shane is sitting there trying to fight off a smile on his face. His own parents complain about Rozanov being an ass and Shane looks delighted. He's sitting there chuckling to himself while watching video compilations of Ilya Rozanov Saying Shit.

When life feels shit I can remember that there is this fucking beautiful once in a lifetime love story that has been unfolding for 16 years, shared with the world through music, tattoos, subtle signals, gentle touches and glances. and idk, it brings me hope and joy and peace and warmth. Truly. it’s adorable and fascinating and serendipitous, and I just love being one of the few who can see what’s happening in front of all of our eyes. 💙💚
