he was glad that she at least laughed at the ridiculous explanation, although it didn’t do much to ease his suspicions. “a gift? no thanks, it’s not my birthday or anything.” was it rude to refuse a gift? probably, but he’d rather be rude and safe.

“well i didn’t come up with it, but fairy godmother wanted to know what i liked so that i could join a club. but all i like is eggs so she let me make an egg club,” he rambled. “why do you have an egg?”

his question brought a soft laugh from her lips. quickly she moved her hand under the egg, letting it levitate in the air. she was by no means and talented telekinetic but it was a little trick her father had taught her. “it’s a gift, for you.”

I dont see how that could be better.” Cheshire never seemed to be present for most things and it had led to huge gaps in their relationship. Moving, he took the drink back from her, holding it out of her reach. “Then you dont get anymore magical tea. I’ll need it before I die.” 

“something could be arranged...” she half joked back. “he could only worry about trivial things, like making sure you act a certain way or how others perceive you.” she wasn’t surprised by the sudden action, simply staring up at him with a playful expression. “better drink up then.”

“Well there is a difference between a nightmare and nightmarish. Wonderland can be a nightmare but is never nightmarish.” At her question, he took a moment to think before shrugging slowly. “A bit. Sometimes. I never used to before coming here but I think sometimes things would have been easier if he worried more.” It almost felt at times as if he was the only one looking out for Casey and it was, at times, exhausting. “The tea always works wonders. And good because Casey would try to murder me but my brother would actually kill me if he knew.” 

“then he’s both.” she said simply. she had assumed wonderland would be wondrous but she supposed every place had it’s downfalls. “that’s only if he worried about the right things, you’re probably better off this way.” her father’s main concerns were ambrosia becoming more powerful and getting off the isle, even if it meant putting her life at risk in the process. but she wasn’t high enough to spill that much. “on second thought maybe i should tell them, who doesn’t love a good family brawl.”

The only time he might have been worried was when Casey had her accident but even that wasnt dealt with as seriously as Calum would have liked. “Im also a mortal. I just dont think im that important.” At the question, he laughed. “Well, he sent it to my sister and I have sticky fingers and a need to self medicate so…”

“he is the god of the underworld, nightmarish is what he strives for. does it bother you that he doesn’t worry?” she asked, genuinely curious. while at times she hated what her father had put her through she was glad he was who he was and how she had turned out. “that’s why we might actually get along. that and this tea seem to be working in your favour.” she didn’t have much experience as far as social interaction went but if she had to take a guess, so far so good. she leaned back with a smirk. “i won’t tell.”

They dont just want to sit and enjoy life for a bit.” His eyes wide as he spoke before he shook his head. “And dont even get me started on royalty here. You would think they were 50 year olds.” As she said it was strong, he couldnt help but laugh. “Yeah. You only need a little. Dads real good at making it.” 

“my father is like that.” she said before giggling, yes giggling, taking another sip. “a king and a queen are just mortals given titles, they’re nothing in the grand scheme. but let them believe what they do is important, it’ll be more fun to watch when they crash and burn.” she grinned. “so you’re dad gave you this?”

Wilber looked at the page as she did, trying to figure it out. It was just a little drawing, but he was drawing it based off of a memory, and he just couldn’t place where that memory was from. “No… well, it could, I really don’t know. I just know that I’ve seen it before. I don’t actually know where.”

"it looks like we’re going on a scavenger hunt.” she stood up, picking the book up and beginning to walk, not bothering to check if he was following. “if this turns out to be a waste of my time i will not be happy.” she warned him.

“that’s new.” she said rather impressed, she hadn’t heard the name chesire but she didn’t care about a name, he was still only a mortal. “i like it, the not worrying thing. most people here are so... uptight.” she squeezed her eyes shut as she felt the tea start to affect her. “it’s strong.”

“aren’t you worried you’re going to get caught?” she asked, inspecting the jug before taking it and having a cautious sip. when she didn’t die, she took another.

“Uhm, hi, so I don’t want to bug you, but do you recognize this?” He held out a sketchbook, with a few doodles on the corners of the paper, and then a symbol that he’d circled in the center. “I think I’ve seen it before, but I can’t think of what it is, and I can’t seem to find it anywhere.”

it was curiosity that drove her to check the page, eyes quickly finding the symbols. she struggled to read anything that wasn’t in hieroglyphics and ancient greek so since coming to auradon she kept an eyes out for art and symbols, trying to memorise them. “i don’t think i’ve seen it.” her eyes lifted from the page to him. “do you think it means something?”
