When is a monster, A jagged, broken thing, Not a monster? A taunt. You could break the beast. She sinks into his sheets, Waiting. The bed smells like a long day’s work. Wavering in the doorway, He knows iron and marble, Hears no breath but the bellows, His voice a lantern, searching in a mine. She’s never seen anything like him. Her thunderous heart rolls under whitest dress. When is a monster Not a monster? Soot smudges cheeks, calloused fingers cradle sea-soft swells, Her skin flushes molten gold. And He trembles, A bent-winged sparrow. Her darling mountain man, Deep doe eyes, Taut muscle beneath burnished skin. When is a monster Not a monster? She hasn’t left his bed since. She is no toy trophy Abandoned on a pedestal. A new language of anvil and steel, Her hair sheared short, Pliant arms now hard and lean. Her laughter rings like wedding bells, The sweetest echo. Stay. Simple. Stay here. Maybe she doesn’t want heaven. No one will miss her. No one remembers his name. When is a monster (Jagged-called-broken) Not a monster? But together they weld, Palm to palm, breast to breast, Rooted and solid and whole.

Always alone. Always misunderstood. Easy to turn bitter, make horrible mistakes. People are more difficult to work with than machines. And when you break a person, he can’t be fixed.

Age Of Athena Series
Hephaestus, God of the Forge.
“Zeus threw him [Hephaistos] from the sky for helping Hera when she was in chains. Zeus had hung her from Olympos as punishment for setting a storm on Herakles as he was sailing back from his conquest of Troy. Hephaistos landed on Lemnos, crippled in both legs, but saved by Thetis.”

HEPHAESTUS and PERSEPHONE !
it’d be inappropriate to scoff, seph. it was the first thing she thought when she heard his voice. her hand gently moved to cover her mouth, thumb resting against her cupid’s bow as she laughed to herself. her laughter was melodic, genuinely amused and full of sincerity. that might have been one of the best things about her; it wasn’t a fake laugh. ever. she laughed loudly, with her whole body, and even in this soft moment her shoulders shook as she attempted to contain herself.
it was rather funny to her, the quiet bellow. she heard it more often now that they were in mortal forms. she had more reason to intrude on his time, his domain. she hummed softly, thinking for a moment as she bounced on her toes before stepping a little closer. ❛ you dare turn away a kind face ? ❜ her tone was teasing, kind as she stepped closer to him and further into his space, careful not to touch anything. ❛ question ? ❜ she looked around the floor for a moment, just a foot or so away from him. ❛ should i have worn more covered shoes ? these sandals seem like a safety hazard. ❜
The twinkle of her laughter, the mischief written all over her face and the quite erotic way she pushed her thumb to her lip struck him all at once. The joke was forgotten and longing filled him with heat that did not resonate from the fire in the room. Wide eyed, endeared, he watched her laugh, watched her enjoy him and he’d never known more pure joy.
His eyes followed each twitch of her eyes, the fall of her hair round her face. He was entranced, ever and always, by her. Her voice rippled through him and he turned his whole body toward her, an invitation as much as respect. “And you are kind?” He challenged, the shadow of a smirk on his lips, hands covered in soot. He listened with care and curiosity to her question though it was true nonsense in his mind, he could make her better sandals anyhow. Still, he reached out those dirty and calloused hands to her, beckoning her close and taking her lithe form into his lap and embrace.
Those hands of his, rough hewn, could be gentle as he removed her shoes. His moss covered eyes met her own, heart hammering away as if it were the true tool and not the metal and wood substitution sitting behind him on the workbench. “A safety hazard indeed.” He didn’t break eye contact as he tossed her shoes clear across the room with ease. “To wander down here without any shoes on.”
The sound of metal clashing against metal reverberated around the workshop as Heph worked, hammer in hand and commission on the anvil. It wasn’t often he had private work these days though in truth the entire situation was new and the art piece before him was drastically in contrast to the lightning bolts he used to pound of Zeus. The jingle of bells had him holding off, the door opening and alerting him to a presence. “You dare intrude on my domain?” He bellowed quietly, his anger soft like thunder but usually without traction. He felt no ill will against the intruder but hoped his slight attempt at a joke would not fall flat.
