* . ⊹ ° • » ( 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒐𝒅𝒆𝒍 ) bohyun is living the life these days / 335 words.
the music aspect of this idol life was great, of course, but bohyun couldn't help but feel the most in her zone whenever they had endorsement deals like the one they were at now. tiffany & co.? it was the perfect fit, and the pretty dresses they had on were the cherry on top.
she had never shyed away from the fact that the part she anticipated the most upon becoming an idol was getting to perform and walk around in the cutest looks, so whenever they had a shoot or a red carpet event, bohyun felt the most satisfied with where she was now.
this is probably the busiest she's ever been since, well, her birth, but bohyun's never been the happiest. when she first joined the line up for this comeback, she was a little nervous at the thought of her debut having come quicker than she expected. however, she's fully embraced this idol life now and was looking forward to what was to come.
hopefully, down the line, she could have more of a hand in the songs she got to sing and the outfits she got to put on, but for now, this is fine. with how well girl next door was doing and the connections hydra had—it was pretty undeniable that they did, indeed, have them—bohyun didn't see what could go wrong with her career in the future.
plus, getting to do it with some great teammates wasn't too bad. chaeyeon was a doll, like always, and she loved getting to debut with her, and some of the older members were a great help, like minah who never failed to provide comfort for when she felt anxious.
while she hated using this word in the past, bohyun thinks she's rather lucky. her hard work brought her here, yes, but surely there was some luck involved as well. of course, such lucky situations also only came to those who were prepared, like bohyun.
perhaps she's her own lucky charm, then.
something cumbersome wedges itself into yeonseong’s throat, and he lifts one of his arms to cough inelegantly behind the delicate curve of his wrist. — bobae has taken his facetious request in earnest, it seems. yeonseong finds this quality about her dreadfully endearing, even if it renders him wholly unable to gather the resolve to tell her that he hadn’t meant any of it, really. he’s already spent the start of the social season in exclusive pursuit of a benefactor with wealth to spare. power. freedom. securing himself a romantic match would only prove a momentary diversion in time. a waste of it. yeonseong flushes generously at the thought of being centered in bobae’s heartfelt enthusiasm and finds himself relieved as she quickly moves on.
when she speaks again, he notes that her voice sounds much closer now. he angles his head down to better hear her over the din of the room, then listens to her brief, in full. “anxious that he’s not just interested in ladies’ fashions then, i take it?” yeonseong punctuates the question with one end of a wry smile. “then how are you meant to determine what his glances mean? … that he’s inattentive? easily sidetracked? a well-dressed satyr?”
from across the room, he’s privy only to bobae’s observations. even less than that, if she chooses to be sparing with her details. he purses his lips before continuing, thoughtfully: “you’ll have to forgive my inexperience on the subject. i’m happy to accompany you, should you like to introduce yourself. it might even be easier to evaluate him that way… ?”
for a moment, bobae wonders how her parents ever did this for a living. it was simply impossible to fully capture the intentions behind the actions and words of everybody in high society. from what she's observed, it seems like everyone has a hidden trick up their sleeve. how was she supposed to uncover all that by a simply conversation or two?
"well, if he is, then i'd say that he's looking at the wrong people. the choi's are always wearing the most interesting pieces. they'd be the perfect family to observe if he was indeed so very interested in the fashion aspects of this ball." bobae's quite sure that yeonseong is simply joking, but it's a nice distraction to the mess that's going inside her head.
when he offers to accompany her, bobae shakes her head. "it's quite alright. i don't think i'd be able to properly articulate my thoughts if i were to actually stand in front of him." with a scrunch of her nose, she let out a sigh. "with skills like this, i doubt i can take over my family business. perhaps i need to find another job?" with that, she lets out a soft chuckle. she's half-joking and half-serious at this point.
"how about you accompany me to the table full of treats instead? i think i could use a madeleine or two."
𝒙𝒐𝒙𝒐, @hdminah
there's been so much happening in the span of the past few months that bohyun can't even remember what day of the week it is. but she's not complaining. she would never as this is everything that she's been dreaming of.
"is it masochist of me to say that i'm enjoying how full-packed our schedule is?" the question's targeted toward minah who happens to be beside her as they're on standby before their group photoshoot. it seems they've been drowning in shoots and activities, but that's just proof of how well they're doing, right?
plus, she gets to take a bunch of pretty photos before each schedule to upload on their social media accounts. bohyun's always wanted to live like a real-life doll, and that's exactly what she seems to be doing these days. "though, it may help knowing what the date even is today," she states with a muffled chuckle. "but someone will claim that we're very lucky! and i like to believe that, too. were your last promotions this hectic as well?"

yeonseong frowns. “of course. the fault in this hardly lies with you; you were both victims of his insincerity. now you’ve made it plain that gentleman isn’t worth anyone’s time. much less anyone’s ire.”
still, it’s reassuring to hear that none of this has managed to splinter bobae’s unfailing optimism. ( at least not yet. ) having made her acquaintance some time ago, yeonseong cannot refute the idea that he finds something about her… unusual. spending time with her feels like being plucked from the present and deposited back into a time when he was still wide-eyed and soft-cheeked. giggling with yeonhee over destinies lustrated in pure white lights— nearly a decade ago, when love seemed so substantial a thing.
now, yeonseong only seems interested in an independence love cannot afford him. and yeonhee, who all but tore herself away to return to conversing with her suitors, acts as though she’s little more than a diplomatic offering for the future of their family.
yeonseong is desperate for something impractical to believe in.
“i do not think your friend is worse off for having brushed sleeves with someone who was wrong for her. she is nearer her happy ending than ever before, and it was you who delivered her there.” the curve of his smile stretches into something playful, then, and he continues: “… i expect you to do the same for me. hm? i’ve been eagerly awaiting the day you’ll introduce me to my soulmate, bobae.”
her family was supposed to have the midas touch when it came to setting people up. how many successful couples has she witnessed in her life time as she grew up in her lee household? one too many to count, and it was disappointing how bobae just didn't seem to have it. plus, her mother was slowly starting to back off for some reason—she said something about her getting older—which meant that bobae just had to get it together.
"oh, i would love to, but i am absolutely terrible at focusing on two people. i can barely even manage with one!" she exclaimed with another shake of her head. "of course, if i see a lady who seems to radiate as bright as you, i shall not hesitate to introduce you two at once!"
despite all this, she was doing a terrible job at finding her own soulmate. her aunts have told her that it wasn't something that she had to seek out, and that it came naturally. that spark, the aura match, they were all things she simply had to wait for, but she was getting rather impatient.
taking another scan around the room, she shuffled a little closer to yeonseong. "there is this one gentleman across the room. he is dressed rather clean compared to the other gentlemen here, but he's been glancing at every single lady who has walked by him, even the ones who have paid him no attention. that doesn't sound like a very good trait, right?"
xoxo, @hdbohyun
"bohyun-ah, hurry your legs," nayoung calls out, a sharp little bell of authority. she is moving across the cobblestones with a grace that is very demure, but her heels click a rhythm that says get out of my way or get stepped on. she has spent exactly twenty minutes being "extra charming" to the head stylist, which mostly involved nayoung speaking a dramatic, broken french she learned from a private tutor who eventually quit — and now? now she has the keys to the kingdom. or in reality, the keys to the "archive rack" for the filming.
"the head stylist, she is loving me. truly, my aura is a gift," nayoung whispers, grabbing bohyun's hand to pull her into the small, dusty room they are using as a dressing room. she grabs a sheer, ruffled blouse and holds it up against bohyun, her eyes narrowing like a diamond appraiser. "here, try this on. if the manager is asking, i will tell him i have the fashion vision and he has... whatever it is he wears. which is a tragedy." she offers a rare, genuine smirk, the kind she only gives to her chanels.
this wasn't the type of adventure that bohyun had in mind, but all the filming and preparations were getting a little tiring so when nayoung suggested a little rendezvous of their own, she couldn't bother saying no. she wasn't nearly as charming as nayoung was, so she just looked upon in awe when it appeared that nayoung to exactly what she wanted.
"ooo, this is cute," she whispered before quickly changing into the blouse that's been handed to her. "kind of the better pieces they had for sure." the outfits for their upcoming comeback were adorable, yes, and she thinks they sort of listened to the ideas she spontaneously threw out, but they were also quite uniformed. now this was a little more fun, obnoxious, and she thinks it'll be perfect for now. "which one are you going for?"
to know love's landscape. for @hdbohyun 🌸
IT ISN’T PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT TO FIND LEE BOBAE. in a room pulled taut with hollow gestures, vain repetition of the most nauseating of platitudes, the way bobae holds herself seems to saturate the entirety of her being in a crown of her own light. a halo of warmth. ring of petal. ryu yeonhee once heard her older brother call bobae the wildflower of the season. and now, wading through a crowded room with him in tow, anticipating the amicable curve of her smile, well. yeonhee is inclined to agree. “miss bobae,” she begins crisply. there’s something of a smile at the corners of her lips. “my brother has asked me to escort him over. i’ll have you know he was quite insistent.”
following this introduction, yeonseong dips his head into a sheepish bow of address. “yeonhee’s words often favor exaggeration, but her claims are not unfounded. i have been wanting to find you.” when he lifts his head, the arc of his mouth softens. “i’ve gotten word that your friend’s previous match was a bit… generous with his affections, bobae. she isn’t too disheartened by it, i hope?”
“if she is, please do let her know there are legions of bachelors to choose from this season,” yeonhee adds. “noblemen with positions of rank. royalty from overseas.” she’s no doubt thinking of her own romantic prospects, and yeonseong can hear the sulk in her voice as she continues, “a woman can afford to be picky. don’t you think?”
bobae would like to think that she didn't stick out like a sore thumb in situations like this, but she'd only be lying to herself. a room filled with eligible ladies and gentlemen, all waiting for their auras to spark together and find them their soulmate. unfortunately, for bobae, she had made a reputation for herself as being a little silly? goofy? let's just say every adjective that didn't do so well attached to an unmarried lady.
she's lost in her own thoughts when a familiar face approaches her, and she gives a polite bow toward yeonseong before going off in a ramble. "i would have never introduced him to her if i had known!" bobae's trying her best to keep her voice down, hiding her mouth with her fan so only yeonseong could hear her, but she's still fuming about her last attempt at setting up her friend that she wouldn't be surprised if somebody else did hear.
"i think she's doing better than i am. i was far more upset than she was. i must have the worst eye for people," she says with a slight groan and shake of her head. "perhaps she'd do better without my help. i'm sure many gentlemen will approach her, anyway. she has that sparkle to me." bobae swallows the unlike me that threatens to leave her lips because she's not asking for pity. not in this moment. "but i won't let that discourage me. there has to be someone in the room worth her time, don't you think so?"
* . ⊹ ° • » ( 𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒔 ) little miss failed matchmaker, lee bobae / 324 words.
tick, tock, tick, tock.
spotted: lee bobae with another mischievous grin on her face. "i swear, this time it'll be the right guy!" she assures her friend, giving her a few squeezes of the shoulder with an encouraging smile. the last gentleman she had set her up with didn't end up too well—apparently, he was pursuing multiple women, and bobae couldn't stand back and just watch her friend be one of them.
"the last guy was just one of my weaker moments!" it was odd because her family had this power to be able to match auras and see who would match with who. however, it seems like their ancestors magically skipped past bobae when it came to gifting such powers. she tried her best all the time, but the results were always terrible.
this wasn't her first rodeo. the last time she tried to set someone up, it was her neighbor, the third daughter of the min's. bobae believed that she had found the perfect match—their auras literally sparked, she swears upon it!—but then it turned out they had absolutely nothing in common.
why was it so hard to find your soulmate anyway?
weren't you supposed to meet eyes with them and just know right away? isn't that what a soulmate means? so why was it that bobae couldn't help others find theirs and fail so desperately when it came to finding her own as well?
she's heard what some of the other matchmakers, those who weren't family, had to say about her. something about her being a little too electric, how men prefer their women to be more docile, and how she always has too much to say.
nevertheless, bobae wasn't about to give up now. she could always steal some of the material her mother had on the gentlemen around time to find her friend a nice match and, hopefully, crash into whomever was her soulmate as well.
BETWEEN TAKES À DEUX / @hdbohyun
minah is wearing sunglasses too big for her face (borrowed from miru) and behind the camera crew, since she's testing how far she's allowed to drift before someone clears their throat and says her name in that please behave voice since it's filming day. bohyun is beside her who is a new member in the formation. unfamiliar. "you alright?" she says, not looking over yet, fingers hooked into the strap of a little canvas bag.
they pass a window and she catches them doubled in the glass: two girls, styled but tired, france sits behind them much like a postcard they're not allowed to crease. "your debut is always the weird one. everyone says 'take your time' while booking your schedule down to the second." she gestures ahead, where staff cluster near a café. checkpoint. her lips twitch, "rule of thumb is if they let us sit, it means they want us talking about the future. if they make us walk, it means they want us smiling." closer, not for the camera. "either way, you don't have to perform with me. you can… exist. i'll fight off the vultures for you."
while bohyun was more than ecstatic to finally get her chance at debuting, she didn't think this many cameras would be surrounding them. of course, she was ready for the stardom to come, but she could see why some stars had to find a separate ego to put on in front of the camera. how could she not feel the pressure, right?
they're finally given some time to breathe, and she hadn't even realized she's looked so tense until minah starts speaking to her. "yeah, i think i'm good," she states with a smile that probably isn't convincing enough. "how long did it take for you to adjust to all these cameras? i mean i'm not camera shy like at all, but this is simply so many people," she explains with a slight shake of her head. "i'm sure they'll edit out anything that doesn't seem broadcast-worthy, but it's still kind of a lot."
🍃 SECTION I — Identity
Name: lee bobae, a precious treasure (이보배)
Clan: a business-oriented family, but they're nothing fancy. just a regular family who runs a matchmaking service; half-fortune tellers, half-aura readers
The Reputation: the youngest daughter of the lee's always seems to be running around with a smile on her face and hoping to set people up. most claim that she's simply taking after the footsteps of her family and hoping to create some matches herself, but she's also very interested in finding her own match
🦋 SECTIONII — Aura
Color: a hue that falls between a royal purple and a light lavendar. matches the color of her favorite daenggi
Trigger: words that boil down to her not being attractive enough as a potential bride. with her ultimate goal being a happy marriage and finding her soulmate, her aura flickers a little when she's snapped into reality with words that seem to belittle her, though she tries her best not to let it show (but auras don't lie)
The Interpretation: while she comes from a family of matchmakers, other matchmakers find her a sore. she's a little too jumpy, a little too excited, and the ahjummas around her advise her to calm it down or nobody will want to court her. bobae waves them off, claiming that she doesn't want some stranger courting her anyway. all she wants is the one, whatever that means, as she's seen her family put together some of the greatest matches
🌷 SECTIONIII — The Heart
Arrangement: her parents simply wish for someone to take her away. preferrably a scholar with hopes that someone from such a family would be able to calm her down. bobae, on the other hand, is always hoping for her perfect fairytale ending. she believes in perfect matches, which is why she's so obsessed with matchmaking others, but potential suitors seem to avoid her because of her family's reputation with being so obsessed with setting up people
Memory: when bobae closes her eyes sometimes to fantasize about finding her true love, she sees herself dressed in some unrecognizable clothes. nothing you'd find right now, but they come and go so minutely that she's pretty sure they're all part of her dreams. though, she does sketch out some of the clothes she sees herself wearing, but when someone asks her what they are, she can't give them an answer
The Scandal: there's word that the lee's actually have the power of faking aura matches. what they claim to be a matchmade in heaven is actually man-made, and the couples they've set up together don't always live well, but the lee's hush them up with some money
yeonseok whistles, visibly impressed. “so professional, sunbae— guess i still have a lot to learn.” and although the pull of his mouth is playful, there’s nothing in it to suggest embellishment. nothing to suggest an overstatement of the truth, because it is. it’s the honest truth. as far as media training is concerned, yeonseok is still lacking. it’s one thing to damage a reputation that’s all his own, but another thing entirely to damage one that’s as critical as bohyun’s. he’ll have to swallow down the responsibility. “then i’ll accept having gamaro in one of the company practice rooms. to protect that idol image of yours.”
he mirrors her posture. tips his head back and exhales. consistent to bohyun’s ambitious assertion, yeonseok has always felt that his debut was an inevitability— but it’s still far-flung. obscure. sometimes, he thinks he prefers it that way, wants it to feel like it’s really been earned, but even so. hearing the word ‘soon’ is a comfort, and yeonseok’s eyes find bohyun’s again, appreciatively. “‘little twin stars’ like the sanrio characters, or. you want us to be a binary star system or somethin’. … want me to orbit you for the rest of my life? don’t tempt me; i will.”
there was so much involved in this industry that bohyun would just love to ignore, but if she wanted to wear all these pretty clothes and perform on stage, she'd have to abide by it, unfortunately. part of that would, eventually, include hiding the friendships she had with a lot of people at hydra. however, that was something she'd have to worry about in the future. for now, she could act like best friends with yeonseok best friend, and nobody would bat an eye, right?
"i wasn't even thinking of the twin stars from sanrio, but that's such a cute reference! next halloween costume, what do you say?" she asks with a slight nudge toward yeonseok. "please, it'll be exhausting for you to try to orbit me. you'd have to last through like my five-hour shopping sprees. but if you can hold my bags for all that time, i wouldn't say no!" bohyun chuckled before gently shaking her head.
minhyun is amused, to say the least. he's used to people asking him for advice or suggestions, but this is the first time someone's shown up with a whole sketchbook of designs. he's certain this girl will land her first fashion brand deal in record time. hell, he'd recommend her himself. he is listening intently, one arm braced against the table as he flips through the collages with genuine attention.
a smile slowly seeps into his features when she bans orange and yellow so decisively. "mhm… just one small tweak—" he agrees gently, nodding along. "gray already is a color accent when you're working with neutrals. it creates soft contrast, sitting right between black and white, so the eye naturally lands on it." his tone stays easy, thoughtful rather than corrective. "for a chic concept, keeping the palette tight actually reads stronger. that's where texture and silhouette come in. or jewelry. chains, metal, shine." he taps one of the designs, his finger following the elements of it as he mentions them.
"tell you what, i'm stealing some of these ideas." his gaze lifts, amused. "and i want you to tell me what you would like to wear specifically." he straightens slightly. "there's budget, approvals, brands being annoying, hair stylists being even more annoying... so i can't promise anything, but i'll do my very best." the pout that follows says enough about past run-ins.
bohyun was aware that people went digital when it came to showcasing ideas or brainstorming things, but there was something so classic about bombarding minhyun with her ideas on a sketchbook. it makes it look a little more authentic, no? plus, she had so much fun printing out all these photos and glueing them. the whole process was such an experience.
"accessories! i'm literally obsessed with accessories. i think a nice bracelet, necklace, or even a handbag can completely change a look! of course, it's not like i can have a shoulder bag on stage, but if i get the chance, i think a backpack look can work. not for this concept, but in the future!"
at this point, she's rambling, but bohyun really can't help herself. a smile beams onto her face when minhyun mentions stealing some of her ideas, and she immediately goes into brainstorming mode once more when he asks what she wants to wear personally. "i want a super cute and chic hat. something like a beret but not completely. i've heard i look nice in hats! they're like the perfect accessory that can really complete a look, don't you think so?"
"but gee is timeless," yejun says loosely back, having contemplated about the two song choices for some time now. "it seems they wanted to stay away from girl and boy crush this time around and go much more... light. energetic. youthful." he releases a breath of air he didn't realize he'd been holding in, subconsciously. looking at the choreography it looks like gee had a lot of feet shuffling, and soda pop had a lot of shoulder shrugging. hm. "did you at least get one of adlibs or some of the more challenging lines?"
the truth is, he isn't even use to wearing so much colour, when the company went over their prospect outfits - but it's not about what the trainee, or even idol wants, but what the label wants for them. the idea of debuting and being stuck with some ugly hairstyle seems to be more and more of a possibility, although it wasn't quite as bad as the first to third gen days, if he can admit aloud.
"anything to be closer to debut, but if we complain, it's alright in private. we can always complain, otherwise we might be too tightly wound up once the going gets tough," yejun laughs, sighing again. "i've heard that the bright, fun concepts seem to sell well. it must be the same audience that loves it when people do... aegyo."
bohyun can't help but scrunch up her nose because while yejun speaks the truth, she's still disappointed in the choice of song they've been given. "well, at least it gives me the opportunity to act all cute and charm the viewers," she states with a chuckle.
"there's not much challenging about it. i got a nice line, though. one that'll make people remember and love me." with that, she gave a silly wink to yejun, mimicking what she'll be doing on stage later. truthfully, she hasn't been paying too much attention to the trends these days, so she just nods as she listens to what yejun has to say.
"yeah, that's what seems to be selling well. i mean, look how well girl next door did with that sort of sound." she shrugs before running a hand through her hair out of slight frustration. "guess i really shouldn't be complaining, huh? since i'm one of the chosen few that get to even stand on stage!"
proof of presence. for @hdbohyun 🌿
HE’S MANAGED TO FIND BOHYUN AMIDST ALL THE MOVING PIECES— performance directors and sound engineers. gaffer tape. the harsh heat of industrial LEDs. a miracle, as far as he’s concerned, when it’s the largest venue the majority of them have ever had the privilege to perform in, somewhere that makes yeonseok’s high school gymnasium look inconsequential by comparison. he wonders how anyone had ever been able to see him, then.
yeonseok moves beside bohyun but keeps his eyes on the unceasing movement of the stage. for a brief period, everything is submerged under fuchsia light, and it’s already easy for him to picture her within the chaos, standing beside the other members of girlnextdoor: a clean silhouette. glossy progression underpinned by a crisp bass synth. lights. camera. action. “guess it’s the first big performance of many. at least, for you.” yeonseok surreptitiously nudges bohyun's arm with his elbow, glancing over her. smile small but pleased. “but just so y’know, when — not ‘if’ — you make your official debut, i’m expecting somethin’ in return. pocket money. or a nice warm meal. you’re not allowed to just leave without taking some responsibility, sunbae. … ‘s gonna be so damn boring, without you around.”
bohyun's been ready to stand on stage practically since she was born, but there's still something surreal about it all. the fact that this was going to be a regular occurrence for her has her feeling all giddy, but a tad bit nervous as well. just a little, though, because she just knows she's going to shine on stage.
"i don't know about pocket money, but i'll do my best to treat you to all the meals i can! it'd have to be like super secret, though, because i can't have this idol image of mine tarnished so quickly!" bohyun liked to think that everybody could be friends, but she knew how brutal fans could be when it came to interacting with anybody that wasn't her own groupmates.
with a chuckle, she leaned back for a moment before letting out a rather gradiose sigh. "you'll be joining me soon anyway. you were born to be a star! we'll be little twin stars together when your time to debut comes," she stated with a chuckle.
𝒙𝒐𝒙𝒐, @hyunhd
more than anything, bohyun was probably excited about getting to dress up and parade around looking cute once she made her debut. the looks that some of these stars got to sport always had her feeling jealous, but now she would get to experience the same thing. how exciting!
and while she wasn't sure if any of her thoughts would actually be listened to, that never stopped bohyun from bothering minhyun from the second she learned she'd be joining girl next door. "okay, but you have to admit, this would make us all look super adorable, right?" with a squeal, she showed off a few design collages she had made.
"i mean, it's pretty clear we're going for this chic, almost runway model sort of sound, so i feel like the outfits should embody that as well. i was thinking neutrals, you know. lots of gray, some white with a bit of color here and there, but nothing too sunny. a big no on anything orange or like yellow." with that, she shook her head to show her disapproval. of course, minhyun would know better than her, but she didn't think it'd hurt to provide her thoughts when she was going to be the one to wear the outfits.
