Send in your Phighting headcanons and I’ll give my own thoughts on them and share them with the world! Yea that’s basically it.

Posting may not be super consistent due to school but I’ll do my best to keep up!

It’s very fitting indeed! What with it describing someone who’s struggling with a need to be strong and superior when they have a thousand struggles they need to work through but aren’t. That’s Subspace for sure.

And I guess the “unloved kids / Who you never really liked and you never trusted” would be Medkit, and maybe Grav and Warp too.

Yeah I think he’d send his army of Biografts after me if I told her to be vulnerable but! It’s a nice thought.

i ship subkit in the "soulmates (derogatory)" way

No matter what, they're going to find each other somehow. And it will never end well.

Subkit is admittedly a “ship” that’s intrigued me in the sense that the pairing is interesting not necessarily as a typical ship but as a great subject for a thesis paper.

This makes sense. “Soulmates (derogatory)” is also spectacular and I will be stealing that. Yoink.

It’s like that one “Are we like this in every universe?” Trend that was going around for a while where it was just… two people fighting or hurting or killing each other in every. Single. One.

Zuka absolutely is horrified by Coil’s work on himself, but also kind of impressed. To do something of that level takes skill and handy work that most inpherals aren’t capable, even surpassing some other gear modifiers he knows. Though, Coil is not trained in this and should not have done it in the first place!! He does often check up on him after phights to make sure he’s okay, but he’s usually good. Coil does his own repairs anyways.

I like to imagine Zuka at least having had met most of the SFOTH during his time working for Blackrock (for one reason or another), therefore he’s at least seen Ghostwalker a few times. He’s seen that his sword is broken and the magic that “repaired” it. He wonders if one day someone would legitimately try and fix the blade, and maybe if he’s capable of it. He’s repaired swords and blades before, so it can’t be that hard. It won’t leave him alone.

(Tho genuinely, wtf happened to ghostwalker?? Why is one of his horns and sword broken?? What happened?? Who did that?? Did he do it to himself for some reason (likely to see what would happen)? Did another SFOTH deity do it? Did their creator? Idk i am gen curious about what happened there)

Zuka holding both respect and horror in regards to Coil… yeah that’s in character. Coil is built different I guess.

I can imagine Zuka wanting SO BADLY to like, actually teach the guy something just to double check that everything is a-ok, but holding back because he knows Coil won’t be receptive to that sort of thing. It’s sweet that he checks in a ton though!

I am SO curious about Ghostwalker also, he’s my favorite of the swords. Zuka wondering if he could repair Ghost’s sword is a fun idea as well!

Hopefully we get more Ghostwalker lore eventually…

Darkheart anon from yesterday here! I have a lot of headcanons for darkheart and I’ll try and share when I can!

When Darkheart tried out fishing with crickets for the first time, they ended up getting invested in the crickets instead of actually fishing, later they set up a cricket terrarium. Now every morning they watch the crickets for a crisp 12 or something minutes. They care deeply about the well-being of these crickets and keep a care journal specifically for the crickets.

Darkheart liking crickets is great actually. Like. I fully endorse this. This is like those snake places that also raise rats to feed to the snakes and then people buy the rats just to have the rats. But with crickets.

I bet those are the most well-cared-for crickets in the entire Inpherno.

Yeah I get it! I think that would be a great concept too since it makes any calls he makes harder to track.

It was only around 10 years ago that Blackrock closed its borders. Before, people would often visit the smaller cities and towns, going to Blackrock for higher education was seen like going to an Ivy League school, and people came and went freely with little border security.

Then, the Scorch. The Council that rules the country declared that the borders are to be permanently closed, and all foreign students are to be kicked out. Immigrants with the correct paperwork were allowed to stay, but hundreds of students were kicked out with unfinished degrees.

This is a really interesting concept, actually.

I wonder why the Scorch specifically triggered it? The closing of borders would then theoretically be tied to a fear of the gods or of The Church, which only formed after the Scorch.

It’s nice to think that maybe there was a time where Blackrock wasn’t an inherently brutal environment… that people could go there to learn.

Medkit loves insects and his favs are butterflies

(yes this is a funeral of the dead butterflies reference. The abnormality fits Medkit SO MUCH I will draw him with it)

Ended up googling what Funeral of the Dead Butterflies was and went down a rabbit hole thank you for this /gen

Medkit liking bugs makes sense… medical bugs… medicine hehe. Butterflies are a nice touch as well. They are very delicate and have no defense mechanism besides poison, so they can only hurt you if you hurt them. As such, many attempt to appear bigger to deter attacks.

Everything uses 'ph' instead of F because it's a linguistic carry-over! Crossroads doesn't have a letter for the /f/ sound, as the words were borrowed from an older version of Blackrockian, which does. So they used the nearest letter.

Honestly this is a really phun one! I’m loving all the worldbuilding headcanons I’m getting since I as a person tend to phocus on characters and phorget about the world they’re in hehe

Subspace can have some fluff bc she helped me pass a test. (Ft. She/he Subspace propaganda)

Subspace is actually getting PAID for her work. Unlike most Blackrock dormitories he's got wooden floors and painted walls, plus a working boiler. This is fancy for Blackrock. It's about an upper-middle class apartment in Crossroads but this is almost nobility levels for Blackrock.

Subspace grew up in the sixth district of Blackrock's capital, which is basically the slums. She was taken in by the Korblox due to his high potential but was always looked down on for being poor. Now, she's got everything she always dreamed of as a kid.

I failed that test five times before I decided to just channel subspace and then i got an 80%

Subspace told you to lock in and you did genuinely giggling a bit at this

I do think like obviously most of the workers are getting paid but like. Barely. Subspace on the other hand is paid very very well (by Blackrock standards)! Good for her, working hard!

Admittedly I am a big fan of characters who work their way into the high classes. The ambitious ones who aren’t provided ladders or stairs so they carve handholds into the stone with their own claws. STOP MAKING ME LIKE SUBSPACE DAMN IT SOCK I’M SUPPOSED TO HATE HER.

Him being poor and being looked down on for it also contributes to his superiority complex since! Psychology fun fact! Superiority complexes are just inferiority complexes in disguise. It’s a great way to build on her already-provided character and personality.

Inphernals have a natural inclination to form deep, familial bonds with each other. That's why Medkit and Sword became found family so quickly, why Skateboard and Boombox are stuck together, and why the Church calls themselves a family. Naturally, not having any of these connections can fuck an Inphernal up.

This is why Subspace treats the biografts like her family, forming those tight emotional bonds with hunks of metal with no ability to reciprocate. Every time Gamma acts as a mother to him, he can't help but feel a twinge of pain knowing he programmed them to say that.

I could Katana angst but it's Subspace’s turn

Ahhh… time to torture Subspace :D my favorite time of day!

I like the idea that Inphernals have that natural, inherent desire to form familial bonds, especially since a lot just spawn in and aren’t born to a blood family. It makes sense from a scientific standpoint too! It would be a survival benefit to have them naturally group up fast when they aren’t naturally born to a group so they can defend themselves against larger predators and group predators (like the oziphrages).

Subspace just… NOT having these bonds… wow you’re making me feel bad for the guy I specifically have a vendetta against. I’m impressed. Good job sock.

She still longs for a family so he bonds with his Biografts… knowing they lack the capacity to truly feel the same… oughhh :(((( And she’s too stubborn to admit she longs for connection! D:

She can simulate a family but struggles to truly form one… even with Gamma he knows it’s all an illusion she built for herself.

Getting a little off-topic but it makes me think of Pwnatious and how they were basically raised by Carnage… kind of in a similar situation there too. I really like Pwnatious sorry for bringing them up when anything even remotely reminds me of them-

I feel like torturing katana today

(TW!!! UNCOMFORTABLE CLOSENESS!! ABUSE OF CHURCH AUTHORITY!!! VERY BRIEF MENTION OF BAD SHIT TO KIDS!!!!! I AM SERIOUS)

Katana is irrationally paranoid when it comes to physical closeness. Not necessarily a fear per say, but paranoia.

It comes from being a young kid in TCOTTE. Almost everyone raised in the church is desensitized to touch from elders at an early age, as it's believed to make a strong bond and keep the family as a whole strong. It also means it's easier to make that "us vs them" mentality, with the added bonus of making discipline easier.

Part of this desensitization, at least in practice where Katana was young, was to have kids sleep at night in the same beds as an adult, preferably someone of authority and isnt a caretaker.

Now, Katana was pretty lucky, since nothing happened to him. He had been put with someone who, despite everything else wrong with them, wasn't weird with kids. (Which Katana considers an actual blessing) but other kids in the church, he knows, weren't as lucky.

Nowadays, that practice has kind of faded out. Completely phased out of the bigger churches and in smaller communities it's sort of transformed into an optional (but very encouraged) thing where caretakers take their kids to a classroom and the kid has a sleepover with a bunch of other kids and like 1 maybe 2 adults to keep everything in check and they all sleep on a giant mat on the floor.

Katana still doesn't trust anyone enough to hug them, let alone sleep in the same bed. This paranoia is seen as odd in the Darkage clan but is respected, because no one wants to make the guy built like a brick bathhouse go into a paranoid rampage.

Technically I skipped some asks to get to this one but it’s mostly so I don’t do this one last since this is a hard one for me to respond to especially since it’s late. I will say in the future I might skip over asks including content like this, but this is a REALLY well-built headcanon and unfortunately pretty accurate to how some cults function in real life.

Actually this is a great example of child abuse in general, particularly the desensitization to touch.

Oooughh this is a rough one to go through but I think it’s a great way to emphasize just how fucked-up the Church’s practices are in a way that is grounded in reality as opposed to the “removing an eye” thing that you wouldn’t really see IRL.

I’m glad Katana got lucky… though it hurts to know others didn’t. I’m glad the DarkAge clan respects his boundaries though! It’s very important to respect triggers and boundaries for people who have been through shit like Katana.

At least it isn’t practiced anymore… holy fuck. This was amazingly well-made, ourple. Massive kudos to you.

People who modify or work with gears are considered medical professionals. It doesn’t require the same type of training that other medical professionals have, but it still requires a level of training.

Zuka has to watch the phighters run around with damaged gears and grabs them after rounds to fix em up since regular healing won’t do anything with gears. He has a few “frequent flyers” (hyperlaser (his gear is so busted that its a miracle it hasn’t blown up in his face yet), rocket (blows himself up), boombox (dive bombs)) he needs to be careful of.

AND THIS IS WHY ZUKA IS THE BEST

It’s a good thing Zuka is Rocket’s dad… otherwise Rocket would be in a lot of trouble all the time. Like. His gear would not be functional.

Hyperlaser’s gear being Massively Fucked is a headcanon a lot of people seem to have which is funny to me

And yeah I’m genuinely shocked Boombox’s gear isn’t in pieces by now what the fuck is it made of. Titanium.

Now I’m imagining Zuka taking one look at Coil’s gear (massively modified by a self-taught maniac) and damn near going into cardiac arrest on the spot.
