〚 ❣ 〛 Listening to 7H speak about natural remedies reminds 2B how much they as androids try to emulate the humans. Even now, after so long of the humans living on the moon while the androids fight wars on Earth, they do what they can to live like them, follow in their footsteps, know life as they do. Is it because so few of them have even met a human before, and their history has been all but destroyed? Learning to live in the footsteps of humanity when uncovering anything about them is so difficult makes any nugget of information so intriguing.
Evidently, 7H thinks so, too.
“Every victory is a step towards success,” she says, almost mimicking what the Commanders have told them before. The response is almost programmed, just as keeping emotions in check has been. (Still, despite it all, 2B can’t help but find 7H endearing in her enthusiasm, even if her face doesn’t show it.) “But we haven’t won yet.” Yet.
“I am staying at the camp while on missions down here. They’ve been very cooperative.” They no longer report to YoRHa, haven’t for an extremely long time, but their eagerness for assistance leaves them open to helping when they can. “I think they could use someone like you there more often. We may be androids, but even we have use for medical studies. What you know could be put to good use.”
“Really...! That would be nice! I was a little worried about going, but if you’re staying there..I know it’ll be just fine!” 7H pondered out loud, silently reminding herself that the travel between destinations wasn’t easy-- it’d be rude of her to treat 2B as some kind of transportation protection. Nodding eagerly, she relaxed as she strolled beside the combat unit. “Another scanner I met helped me a lot. I’ll make sure his findings get to them too.” She grinned, hoping she’d forge a friendship with her. It was ambitious she supposed, but she wanted to try.
“..If I may ask, how long have you been here? I was so surprised to see you. I haven’t been back at the bunker in awhile, it feels...I wonder if they’ll deploy more healer units.” Her thoughts were jumbled, but she appreciated the company. “And more units like you! Though by the looks of it, I bet you could tackle all those machines without even thinking about it! It’s incredible! I can hardly carry my weapon. Actually, I’m not supposed to have this. You didn’t hear that from me, though!”

“Isn’t it so gorgeous? We caught it just in time!” The bubbly android gazed up at 2B, quietly hoping she appreciated the vivid fireworks show at the amusement park. It was practically her home here down on Earth, after all! 7H was pleasantly surprised that she showed up again as well-- after saving her in the City Ruins she feared her presence would only be a burden. As the colorful lights illuminated their faces, the healer fumbled with her satchel, trying to be a little discreet. She felt an abnormal twinge of embarrassment, but associated it with her uncertainty with the outcome of her gesture. “M-miss 2B! I apologize for being so abrupt...but please accept this as a token of my gratitude!” 7H looked downwards as she offered her a synthetic flower, vaguely similar to the ones she wore in her own hair. “I was going to gift you with a real one, but they wilt over time..so I figured I’d make this one, so it’d never die! You don’t have to wear it or anything, I just..” Turning her attention back up to the fireworks, 7H brought a hand to her chest. No matter how much she talked, 2B always seemed to accept her-- her kindness never ceased to make her happy, no matter how subtle. “I wouldn’t be here without you! Thank you for visiting me here..I promise I’ll do my best for you! Please think of me with this.”

Nodding, 9S listens in as well.
“Well I, for one, am sick of it!” One machine exclaims to another, gesturing dramatically with its stubby arms. 9S notes that it has the ragged remains of a scarf looped around its head, lacking a neck. “Those hooligans! Throwing their loud parties all throughout the night when decent folks are trying to sleep! Playing their rock music! It makes me sick!”
“I know daring, I know,” the other soothes, patting its fellow machine with a mechanical clunking. “But we’ll be rid of them soon enough. The ski jumping competition is fast approaching, and we-”
They both pause, turning to look at the androids in the doorway. 9S extends a hand, prepared to hack one of them, when it squeals in delight. “Ah! New guests! You must help us, please! Please come in, you’ll catch your death out there!”
Several more machines appear to take notice and toddle over, all babbling in greeting over each other. “…what the hell,” 9S murmurs to 7H. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. But I guess we don’t have much of a choice, do we? Can’t stay out in the storm.” Even if they could, who would pass up an opportunity to study such odd, erratic behavior? Surely not him.
Was that...an invitation? She was just as surprised, but took the machine’s welcome as a positive sign. Bowing politely, albeit a little awkwardly, 7H greeted the group with a small smile. Whether or not this peace would last was undetermined, but she figured it’d be best to make it count. Combat was never er strong suit, but listening sure was. “N...nice to meet you!” The healer shot a nervous glance at 9S before turning her attention to the machine that spoke. Most seemed to be decked out in some kind of ski gear-- hats, scarves, even gloves. It was a curious sight, but the furthest question from her mind. They must have taken the materials from the resort long ago.
‘You must have had a long journey! Please come by the fire, there’s much to discuss.’ One of the fuzzy hat wearing machines gestured at the two, as if they were expecting them to resolve their problem. 7H wondered if they were trained in some way, or if this was some kind of..trap. It didn’t seem like it, though. She let her guard down a little, happy to warm herself by the flames. ‘What are your names? You must have come here to help us settle this once and for all! How fortunate for us!’

chilly reception.
“It’s possible. They’re usually not very efficient in cold areas, but you’ve seen how quickly they can adapt. If I could get in there and hack a couple of them, then we’d know…” Sometimes the machines seemed to know what they were doing, but other times they just followed the rest of the pack. 9S takes the heavy padlock in his hands, the chain jingling. It’s rusted, so corroded that it would be impossible to unlock the traditional way. “I have an idea. 2B showed me how to pick these.”
9S fiddles with the padlock for a moment, as if preparing for some delicate operation, and then pulls, tearing it free from the chain. He chucks the padlock into the snow, brushing flakes of rust from his hands. “See? Easy.” Though he’d only worked with 2B a couple times now, he appreciated her eye for straightforward solutions like this. If you couldn’t go around something, you might just be able to go through it.
Easing the door open, he peers inside. The interior seems to be largely one room, the wall of windows the only source of light, other than places where the roof had fallen in, letting drifts of snow cover the ancient, mold-blackened carpet. Near the center of the lobby is a sunken sitting area where, to his surprise, the machines have built a fire in the firepit. Among burning scraps of furniture, he can see other machine body parts. Several small machines are sitting around it, while others wander aimlessly or stand in small groups, apparently engaged in conversation. 9S frowns to himself. “…what are they doing? Can you see?”
As the dim fire illuminated her optics, 7H blinked to confirm the sight before her. They managed to organize a gathering in conditions like this? As much as she wanted to find some ulterior motive, they all just seemed to be enjoying each other’s company. They didn’t seem to react much to the commotion though, not yet. Carefully stepping forward and away from the bitter cold of the door, 7H flinched at the sound of her own heels. The machines seemed to stir, but she hoped it wasn’t enough to initiate confrontation so quickly. There weren’t any visible weapons though they didn’t necessarily need them-- she was quite surprised to see them chat so nonchalantly.
“..They’re just..speaking to one another...” She leaned in a little closer, trying to pick up on their speech. “Oh..I think this group is arguing about something. The one next to them are quiet...I have to listen in!” The healer whispered, peering over the corner as she moved completely inside.
[ So sorry I’ve been quiet ;; I am at a full time job and it’s kicking my BUTT. Will be back soon ;w; ]

The sign is far too encrusted with ice to read, and the extreme weather had frozen and thawed it until the wood was brittle and rotting to splinters. “The Pod said it’s some sort of recreational facility! So maybe it’s a resort?” 9S suggests, raising his voice just enough to be heard over the wind, but not enough to draw the attention of any machines. “Humans really liked the snow! Can’t imagine why, though. Guess it wasn’t always this bad.”
Drawing closer, he can make out the building’s massive, angular facade, its true shape obscured by the drifts heaped up on it. A triangular pane made of of dozens of windows dominates the front of it, all of them now shattered. He’s sure he can see machines moving around in there, their illuminated eyes peering out of the darkness. “I don’t think we wanna go in through the front… There’s gotta be another way.”
He starts to head around the side, into blessed relief from the wind. Huddled against the side of the building, they might be able to speak properly now as they searched for a door. “Makes sense that the machines would take over the only decent piece of shelter for miles, but I wonder what made them come here in the first place, or how they even got here…”
“A resort..I’ve read a little about them! I bet it was fun at some point! I suppose some humans liked the thrill of it..” 7H thought out loud, her observations coming to a quick halt as the unmistakable flicker of a machine passed by the glass window. She didn’t quite notice it, but the concerned expression on her face lingered longer than she wanted it to. “..Maybe they traveled in a group to keep warm, or waited when the winds died down to press on. Like a herd or pack mentality! You’d think they’d freeze over, considering they probably aren’t prepared for temperatures like this..but who knows.” Following 9S to the side, the healer caught sight of another window just above them, contemplating whether or not they could make the attempt to climb up. There didn’t seem to be much activity from the opening, and it was a lot quieter than waltzing up the front steps..though the second door on the side of the building did seem tempting. There was a lock on it though, and she wondered just how much commotion either would cause. She was hopeful this would be their ticket in without a fuss, but she could still hear the machines chattering within.
“You think we should try and break through this door? Or climb through the window? I didn’t think we’d have to be making these kinds of decisions, haha..”
.
chilly reception.
n0nesse·:
“Nah, I’m good right now, thanks! Here-” 9S offers her his hand so they could support one another if either stumbled in the drifts, and to keep them from potentially getting separated. He grabs one of his Pod’s primary arms for support, and to keep the wind from buffeting it straight out of the air. “Let’s get going.”
***
It’s only a few minutes into their journey towards shelter that the storm worsens exponentially, snow falling in unbroken sheets of white that blinded him to the point that it was no use relying on his visual sensors. He could only trudge towards the point pre-marked on his map and hope that there was actually something actually when they arrived.
Ice collects on his hair and the furred fringes of his hood. Their cold-weather gear was doing its job, at least, preventing their joints from locking up due to the bitter cold. It’s just a matter of physically fighting their way through the storm. After at least a half hour of grueling travel, he thinks he can see a vague outline of some structure nestled against the foot of the mountain.
Pod 153 speaks up, its voice nearly lost in the howling gale. “Multiple machine lifeforms detected inside. Proceed with caution.”
9S laughs breathlessly. “Great. Maybe if we’re quiet they won’t notice us…”
7H nodded, a determined gleam shimmering in her optics. Securing her hand around his, she mirrored his actions and gripped onto her own Pod, pushing through the storm. “Right!” -- “Maybe the wind will be loud enough to cover our footsteps..” The healer model stumbled over the snowy mounds that collected at the base of her boots, the numbness in her gloves as strong as ever. There was just enough protection to keep the feeling, but she was intrigued to see how this kind of weather took a toll on their bodies. 7H nearly forgot she was holding onto him, if it weren’t for Pod’s voice ringing through the blizzard. No wonder she wasn’t flying off in the opposite direction. Cursing her smaller frame as they pushed onward, her vision focused on the doors that were partially frozen over. This was a particularly large facility, but she couldn’t make out the words on the sign. Perhaps it was something recreational? It truly withstood the test of time! She could make out some odd shapes in the windows, but all 7H had in mind was shelter. Even if there were machines inside, they could probably manage around it. It seemed big enough to house plenty of people, so hopefully the weather beyond their control was the most of their worries. Every bit of optimism counted in her head. “Can you make out what type of facility this is, 9S?” She called out over the wind, trying not to lag behind. “Let’s see if we can make it in without a peep! I see some ice on the window, but..it should be okay--!”
chilly reception.
n0nesse·:
9S hoofs it through the deep snow as quickly as he can. Although there isn’t far to travel, it seems to take so much longer than it ought to, given how he was fighting the elements every step on the way. Wind gusts threaten to bowl him over, even buffeting his Pod so badly it was nearly knocked out of the air. The sky was rapidly clouding over, beckoning snow. There was no way they could travel safely in blizzard conditions. Even androids had limits.
Finally he spots the black blip of her uniform amid the sea of blinding white, and waves again, trudging through the drifts until he finally reaches her. “Hey, I’m here, sorry it took me so long. It’s getting really bad out here, huh?” 9S almost has to shout just to be heard over the screaming gale and the crashing of the waves against the far-off shore. “Better than being in the Bunker, though! I think I know where we can wait it out, there’s a- There’s some sort of old human structure near here! You want to go check it out?” Normally he’d ask permission from Command when deviating from mission objectives like this, but the chance of getting a signal with the oncoming storm was practically nil.
“Yeah...extraordinarily...” She nodded, bowing her head out of polite habit and to shield herself from the developing blizzard. 7H couldn’t help but smile at his ‘bunker’ comment-- it was more exciting out here, even if conditions were becoming rather..unbearable. The healer didn’t necessarily crave a perilous adventure, but just the fresh air and experiences associated with exploring what she could of the planet. She assumed she was well equipped enough for anything that came their way, though. Command had their backs in some way, right? Should anything happen to the Scanner, she was confident she had all her healing abilities aligned. Hopefully she’d return back with all her supplies untouched with the two of them unscathed.
“Of course! Let’s hurry!” 7H closed in beside him, reassuring herself that their new destination was only a straight shot from here. Once this passed they’d resume their mission and carry on as normal. The other units were probably aware of their delays by now anyways. “Any injuries? Burns? I’ll inspect a little closer when we get inside!” Her concern for the weather quickly turned into concern for her fellow android.
chilly reception.
n0nesse·:
“Unit 7H located, marking on map,” Pod 153 chirps, a marker appearing on the map in his HUD. “Proposal: Unit 9S should move to rendezvous with unit 7H as soon as possible. Imminent inclement weather may impede communications.”
“What? Seriously?” 9S scoffs to himself, wasting no time beginning his trek towards the other android. Looked like she wasn’t more than a mile from here. Maybe her flight unit had been blown off-course. The snow is knee-deep, the stony ground uneven. Other than if this was marshland, they could not have picked a more difficult place to get around. “You’d think Command would be able to plan this stuff better… Let’s contact unit 7H, tell her I’m on my way. Is there any shelter or anything around here?” If bad weather was coming, they might need somewhere to wait it out before they could meet with the other units.
“Affirmative. Map data from Command shows the remains of a human recreational facility 2.4 kilometers from this location. Said structure may provide adequate shelter until conditions approve.” The Pod’s holographic communications screen pops into view. “Contacting unit 7H now.”
It takes a moment for the call to connect, but as soon as he sees the video feed appear, 9S waves, calling, “Hey! Hey, I’m coming! Just stay where you are, I’ll be there really soon.” The poor weather and distance from any access points means the video is a crunchy mess, but hopefully some of that got through.
The sudden flicker of the screen took the petite android by surprise, causing her to take a few steps back and readjust her position. Hopefully he didn’t see that. He was cutting in and out, but it was pure relief when he said he’d be coming to her. “Okay! I’m sorry for the trouble!” She chirped happily, keeping her composure as the signal dipped the longer they spoke. There was obviously a storm brewing, and there was only so much this technology could handle.
Pulling the strings to her furred winter coat, 7H tightened the barrier between herself and the frigid winds. She could’ve sworn she heard thunder, but she refused to make it harder for the Scanner by running ahead. Once they were together it’d be fine. Two androids were better than one! ‘Unit 9S is approaching from your left. Proceed in his direction as soon as possible, as the storm is now approaching within the hour--’
“9S!” The healer called out, waving both her hands to catch his attention. “I’m over here! We found each other just in time, wow--! Are you okay?! We got so off course..!”
