and note that when i say “education” i do not mean, necessarily, a classroom. i mean learning through experience, through conversation, through self-motivated study, through whatever means you can find.

formal study and academia, while valuable, are not ends unto themselves. there is a finite amount that you can learn from reading. the point is to change the world. we figure out what we should do and then we do it.

an ‘isolated’ individual has a very limited amount of power. people in cooperation are the strongest force in the world.

you’re not alone. find your comrades. believe in a better world. be brave.

there’s so many movies that were extremely formative to me that i really honestly loved cuz i was a child but like i can’t watch them now cuz i know how. demonic they are. like jennifer’s body and sucker punch specifically. being a r*pe survivor i like. latched on to these characters who were older than me and had been abused in similar ways and watching them like take some sort of control and get revenge was really powerful for me at the time. i still have a place in my heart for both of those movies but i really can’t watch them again because of the whole “sexy torture porn” aspect of it.

and that’s not to say that showing abuse in movies is…inherently a bad thing but the way that it was and has been shown in a multitude of movies is where the woman being sexually abused is before and after shown as a sex symbol. the abuse more lies in a fantasy than showing how vile it is. I think that these movies had the potential to be really amazing if the abuse was handled in a different way. 

ALSO sucker punch, in particular, i have the same issue i have with a lot of tv shows/video games/ etc where having some (in this case one, jamie chung) pretty ass sickening girls in some really fun outfits breaking shit is GREAT but i know in my heart that they are only put in those outfits to be sexy to men and it…discuss me.

I know for a fact I’ve told this story on here before but I’ll never get over the time when I was working retail and I was cashing out some lady so I asked “cash, debit or credit how are you paying, ma’am?” And she said “that’s none of your business.” And demanded to speak to my manager about my invasive question

Oh, I’ve got one in this vein: a lady called our company wanting us to come steam clean her tile floors, but refused to give her address, instead demanding that we do it at our location. And hung up when I tried to explain that her floors were attached to her house.

at my last job me two co workers and a manager had to explain to a guy why we couldn’t let him walk out to go to his car to get his wallet with a product that he didn’t pay for yet….we had to explain to him MULTIPLE times….he tried to get us (including the manager) fired the next day because we “didn’t have any trust”  

another time another guy tried to get everyone in the store (including the general manager) fired because no one answered his call when he called five hours before we opened that day

i also had to explain to countless people that just because one specific product like a mouse or keyboard were on sale, it doesn’t mean that ALL mouses/keyboards were on sale
