it’s a never ending journey
A part of me is missing
Martha Gellhorn, from a letter to Max Perkins featured in The Selected Letters of Martha Gellhorn
there will be days when it’ll still hurt — you can move forward & even find peace, but that doesn’t mean the pain never existed or that it didn’t leave an imprint on your heart… bc that type of hurt honestly never truly goes away. it may heal slightly, but deep down, it carries a memory of what it’s been through. that’s the thing about healing — it doesn’t erase the damage; it just teaches you how to live with it.
I can lie & say, “I’m not hurt anymore” but my soul isn’t feeling how it used to. it’s dark, cold, broken…. bc when you’ve been through something that shattered you into a million pieces, you don’t go back to who you were before. those shattered pieces of you can be glued back together but your whole entire being will be forever changed. some become softer, some harder; some parts heal beautifully, while others remain raw for a lifetime.
healing doesn’t mean pretending nothing happened. it means acknowledging that it did & still choosing to find beauty in who you’ve become despite it all. bc the truth is, some pain doesn’t leave — it just becomes quieter with time; teaching you strength, empathy, and resilience that you never knew you had.
too late….
Adulthood is realising no one cares about you and the show must go on...
