@hearthhusband
puttering around the house is an underrated form a self-care. make some tea or coffee. put on a podcast. sort the mail. tidy some pillows and fold some blankets. start the laundry. thaw some soup. just casually wander around aimlessly doing little things to make your space and life a little nicer. who cares if you get distracted or only do a little. you aren't being productive. you're puttering.

Warding Door Wash
A little charm to protect your space from negative energy. I try to do this at least once a month.
Simply steep basil and rosemary in boiling water for about 5 minutes. Strain out the organic matter.
Dilute with water and add a little vinegar.
Wash down your front door and say
All that's sour, I send you away
Only blessings are welcome to stay

Hey! Pssst! They say when you move into a new home bring in a loaf of bread as the first thing inside as a nod to the house spirit and to bring in the energy of the hearth to your home!

RECIPES FROM A SOUTHERN KITCHEN WITCH SERIES #1
Lemon Blueberry Ricotta Hotcakes To Bring In The New, And Out With the Bad!
Best served with a iced coffee to survive the summer heat ~
Now I might be biased, but lemon and blueberry go together like blackberry and sage, and peanut butter and jelly.
Maybe it's because it brings back distinct memories of bringing my mother's lemon blueberry muffins smothered in enough glaze to legally be considered a cupcake to grade school. I'd sneak bites under my desk hoping to evade teacher's gaze, but my efforts were always futile.
But I digress, this recipe is a witchy spin on the food I grew up on. A lot of times when I'm making recipes, I actually don't actually start with a specific intention. I look into what I'm craving and try to figure out why. A lot of times we fail to realize that cravings are more than just a body response. We crave things when were mad, sad, angry, and everything in between.
And I truly believe that your subconscious cravings tell you what you need, before you can put a written thought to it. So naturally, when all I craved recently was lemon and blueberries, I figured there was stagnate energy I needed to rid myself of, and when I checked my calendars I realized it was the start of the new month, and I hadn't even realized! The perfect time to let go of the old and in with the new.
INGREDIENTS:
For the Hot Cakes:
As many fresh blueberries as feels right (about a cup and a half for me) ~ for bringing in protection and prosperity
The zest and juice of 1 lemon ~ for cleansing and banishing negative energies or thoughts
3/4 cup buttermilk ~ renewal, protection, and abundance
1 cup ricotta cheese ~ for comfort
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
A pinch of salt ~ cleansing the old and protection
dash of vanilla ~ for good luck, and just because I can
1 1/2 tbsp sugar ~ to sweeten things
2 large eggs ~ for a fresh start
Butter for frying
For the Lemon Glaze:
2 tbsp lemon
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tbsp milk
A dash of vanilla (optional)
DIRECTIONS
In two bowls, whisk together your dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, salt) in one, and your wet ingredients (buttermilk, ricotta, vanilla, eggs, lemon juice, lemon zest) in another. Slowly and steadily fold in your dry mix into the wet mix until just combined. Then fold in blueberries making sure not to overmix.
Melt butter on a skillet on medium-medium high heat (It depends on the stove, for mine, medium is medium high, and medium high is burn the kitchen down and ruin your new pans hot).
Add about a 1/3 cup batter, more or less if you want bigger or smaller pancakes and cook until the edges start to bubble and raise from the pan. Flip and continue to cook. About 2-3 minutes on each side.
Mix together your lemon glaze while waiting for the hotcakes to cook.
Let cool, top with more blueberries, lemon glaze and toppings of choice. Its up to you.
as always,
blessed be!
