I've decided to put up a garden wall in my kitchen using those 16×16 plastic pegboards. I'm covering them with peel and stick wallpaper and creating a 9sq (3x3) 'art piece' from which to hang wall planters that I can then move around as plants are added and room is needed.
I'm planning on putting up a grow light above them on the underside of a shelf that will then be for storing gardening supplies.
I want to repaint the wall another color before I get much further in the process though. The current wall color was there when we moved in. I'm not really a fan of pink as anything more than an accent color, but this color wasn't terrible enough in saturation for me to care about repainting it before now. But if I'm going to be nailing things to the wall, I want to paint it first.
I'm thinking basically the same tone as the pink, but in orange so it keeps to the color palette that's already being used.
I was considering yellow, but I think orange may be better. Or maybe a coral that leans more orange but is somewhere between a pink and orange.
In order: paint color selection, partial wall coverage at 3 coats of paint, and first pegboard back up to check my feelings on it all
The rest of the wall will be painted over the next week or so. However, that is a 10ft ceiling and I will have to wait to do the upper portion for when I have the help of a spotter.
The lower portion will wait until I can wrangle the cats elsewhere for a few hours and get myself down on the floor.
Only doing one wall of the kitchen for now, just to have the garden wall finished so I can get my plants up. The other walls of the dining area will be painted sometime later this summer as I can put time as to move furniture around and get to it.
Update: final placement of the 9-square for the pegboards has been decided and finishing up the pegboard prettying has also made it to the final stage.
The shelf and grow light I ordered have both come in, so once the upper part of the wall is paid and I get some holes in the wall filled in and painted over, I'll be ready to put this thing together.
I'm hoping to be able to get it done this coming Sunday!
on a more cheerful note. i was surprised to see that some of the backdrops in the 1950s live-action shows are very stylistically similar to the ones that show up in the cartoons from the same era. the nat king cole show uses the same kind of messy, texture-y abstract geometrics here, and the colgate comedy hour has the skewed, off-kilter perspective and the combination of bold linework and lineless representations.
For a city to be walkable. It must also be sittable.
#every time I read this phrase the same thing happens#I read it as shittable and go wait that can't be right#oh right they were talking about public benches that makes more sense#but public bathrooms available without fees should also be a thing tho#cities should definitely be shittable#it happens EVERY SINGLE TIME
it must also be shittable
given the current climate this pride especially i feel i must mention that i love my trans friends, i stand with trans people in the fight against transphobic legislation and those who would enforce it, and this blog is not a good place for you to be if you do not vibe with that

In 2026, the chicest thing a gay actor can do is never explicitly come out as gay but also make it abundantly clear that he is. Coming out is too modern. Staying closeted is too old fashioned. But this method merges contemporary freedom with Old Hollywood glamour and allure, and it weeds out the dumbest people who truly don’t get it. I call it the Pascal Method.

no she doesn’t
You clearly don't go here or to queer history and signaling, or both, enough to have this conversation and I'm not going to explain it to you. You could have asked questions, you could have done even a modicum of research. You didn't and you made yourself look ignorant. Goodbye.

have you guys heard about the greenland shark. some crazy shit happening there.
they are sexually mature at ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS OLD.
their (live!) young gestate for. wait for it. eight to eighteen (??) YEARS. can have up to 10 at a time. good grief.
longest lifespan of any vertebrate, up to five hundred years
toxic flesh
has giant eyes but is usually blind because of a weird little crustacean that's evolved to live on and eat their eyes. this doesn't seem to bother them much.
lives in deep cold water and has the lowest swim speed and tail-beat frequency for its size across all fish species. just generally lives life in extreme slow motion
largest genome of any shark
eats everything including moose and polar bears
ma'am you are delightfully strange and I'm privileged to share a planet with you
this post prompted me to refresh my memory on Greenland Shark Facts and this detail about how they feed goes so hard
just vacuuming up their unsuspecting prey. whole !
Good news good news good news! Recent research suggests the eye parasites do NOT blind them!

I <3 you a normal amount Greenland sharks
They’re fucking. Ice Elementals.
So it’s very likely they diverged from other Sleeper Shark lineages during one of the Pleistocene ice ages, when thickening polar ice would have trapped certain populations in perpetual icy darkness for thousands of years. These are the descendants of the survivors of that.
Their flesh is toxic for numerous biomechanical reasons that directly relate to their ability to not only survive but thrive in waters that would literally freeze you or I solid.
Urea and Trimethylamine-N-Oxide
The Greenland shark accomplishes this using first concentrated Urea, which is a natural antifreeze and depresses the freezing point of the shark’s fluids; and TMAO, which stabilizes proteins against denaturation, both from the concentrated Urea and the crushing pressure of the deep.
Additionally, the Greenland Shark has 3 distinct Hemoglobin complexes in its blood, 2 of which are apparently specifically adapted to be unaffected by the high antifreeze concentrations. More research is needed here.
{anecdotally; once pulled from the water by fishermen, the shark allegedly persists thrashing and fighting for far longer than any other fish, and there are stories of the flesh itself continuing to twitch and move long after its apparent death, as the creature is butchered}
Their longevity is partially enabled by a highly derived genome: it is comprised largely of transposable elements, also known as “jumping genes,” which normally cause organisms to be more prone to Cancers, but, are also capable of self-replication; and amongst these, we have already identified over 80 discrete gene sequences dedicated specifically to DNA repair.
They’re viviparous, and the female reproductive systems are quite complex, including a system of villi to deliver oxygen to the developing pups. The variability in gestation time remains subject of ongoing study: how is this accomplished? What triggers it? Many questions; fewer answers.
Truly a remarkable and magical Beast of the lightless depths. It is an honor and a privilege to share this wet rock with you all 🫡
These tags made me laugh:
Literally!
“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”

In folk music men are always dying in industrial accidents and women are always haunting stuff. What if a woman dies in an industrial accident and a man walks these hills in a long black veil. What then
Honestly they'd both die less without the long veils. Those are workplace hazards
