"And yet you would mess up the castle after I would spend all day cleaning it" She pointed out, her eyes rolling just a bit. "Remember the bathroom incident?" Sophie recalled, remembering rather fondly how much of a fit Howl had thrown. "Oh? I thought nothing could hurt you" Sophie chuckled softly, shaking her head at him. "Howl, you’re a slither-outer and a lazy wizard. I think my judgement is very fair"

"I never asked you to clean it. You might as well say that you kept cleaning the castle even after I deliberately messed it up, completely against my will," Howl responded with a firm tone. "And the bathroom thing... It was completely justified. I was in a tough spot in a relationship at the time, after all."

"I could never destroy you, silly boy" She mumbled, "I’m exhausted, just come back to my apartment and don’t mess it up!"  Of course she was teasing…mostly. "I would if you don’t behave yourself" She noted, turning to gaze before motioning up the street. "I live close and that way you can be lazy and I can relax"

"I wouldn't dare mess it up," Howl joked, as they walked. He was surprised Sophie wanted him in her apartment, but it was nice either way. "Your words hurt me, Sophie Hatter," the Wizard responded in an overly dramatic tone. "The fact that you even consider me lazy makes me wonder if you're even fair when judging me."

"Why, thank you" Her tone was sarcastic, but Sophie wouldn’t push the subject anymore. Twirling a strand of hair around her finger, the young Hatter shrugged her shoulders at his next question.

"Witnesses? You are completely no fun. Where would you like to go? Don’t you usually want the lead?

"Not when I have the feeling the person I just found has the intent of destroying me," the man responded with a goofy grin, as they walked. "So I'll let you choose.Maybe then you'll spare me. I wouldn't like to be turned into a scarecrow, after all. I know you do that sort of thing to people."

How could Howl always have that damned smirk upon his face? Of course, Sophie did enjoy that smirk, but it was the very thing that was able to make her weak in the knees. “Well, at least we’re the same then.” She mused, pushing the door open as she walked out onto the street.

"Me? An evil witch? What a perfect idea" She teased towards the other, turning to glance back at him before rolling her eyes. Leave it to Howl to leave the idea of her being an evil witch. "Perhaps I am, it has been a bit of time since you last saw me"

Howl walked along Sophie. He was joking, even though such a thing was possible, it would be unexpected to see someone new grasping this world so fast as to have already learned about its magic. After all, most of its inhabitants lived and died without even knowing it exists.

"You've always been one, in your own little way," the Wizard responded with a chuckle as they moved. "Where are you taking me, Sophie? I repeat, I want witnesses at all times."

"You really are a headache, Howl" She had very little to argue on, mostly because it was very true. Sophie felt grown up, but was she? As the eldest of three, Sophie was very used to being in control and telling others what to do but with Howl, it always seemed to go in one ear and out the other."

“I know what you meant to say, Howl” She muttered, her cheeks once more heating up at his statements. “You…you really are something else, Howl.” The proclaimed ‘little grey mouse’ turned on heel, motioning for Howl to follow. “I think we’ve caused quite the scene”

"Hah. Well, not unlike you, Sophie," Howl responded with a grin. He quite enjoyed discussing, sometimes, though it tended to get on his nerves before. Either way, Sophie was generally fun.

"I know I am. You too, Sophie Hatter," he responded, and nodded at her suggestion. "Let's get going, then. We wouldn't want people to run away, thinking you're an evil witch, would we?"

"You’re obsessed with your appearance, Howl" She reminded, a sigh rolling off her tongue as she leaned back onto her heels. "Because I can imagine that your home is a complete mess because you still don’t know how to clean. Just because you provide doesn’t mean you’ve grown up" She was already tired, and her hands tangled into the mess of curls atop her head. "Now?!" Although her cheeks were tinted red (because Howl could always make her blush), Sophie was quite offended that he only considered her pretty ‘now’. "Well, I apologize that I’m not as ‘pretty’ or ‘not as nagging’ as your model friends, but some of us can’t use our looks to survive, Howl"

"And you're obsessed with telling me what to do, but I let you do it anyway, don't I?" the man said, calmly placing his hands on his hips, still smiling. "Just because you clean doesn't mean that you've grown up, now does it? Those things don't have much relation with each other, either."

At her following statement, Howl sighed. "I didn't mean to say that you were- Well, you were older before, so you know what I mean. Besides, I never compared you to anyone, nor would I. You're way too unique for that, little grey mouse."

"Well of course you have" Although Sophie really did doubt the truth to that whole statement. "Modeling?!" At this, Sophie really did give a scoff. "Of course you’ve gotten into that! You’re still the same Howl, this hasn’t changed you a bit." The frustrated maiden pushed herself to stand, feeling as if sitting had made her docile and complacent with this new information. Of course she was happy to see Howl, dear magic! She had missed him, but had he really missed her? It seemed not, because just like always Howl thought of himself first. "Well, hopefully you’ll grow up a bit around here.  You’re probably more concerned with that pretty little face of yours than getting home." Perhaps in their small time apart Sophie had changed too, she wasn’t as meek and shy as she once been. The fire that had sparked in her when they first met had grown into a full flame, and by no means was Sophie going to change back into her old hag self just because she had found Howl. "Come on then, you should probably know where to find me when you aren’t looking in a mirror"

Howl's smiled vanished slightly as the Sophie he already knew very well came to the surface. And she was seeming so nice and collected just before! "I don't think anything's wrong with picking up modeling," he responded, frank. "Or having found a way to use personal beauty to make a living. Why isn't taking care of myself growing up?" the wizard inquired, before grinning with satisfaction. "You still sound like a nagging old lady, even if you're pretty now," he said, placing particular emphasis on the pretty and less on the nagging part of hte statement.

"You were born in this reality? … Now that you bring that up, I am unsure if this is just the future of the world I come from as well…" A sad sigh escaped the Laputian.

"I have not been able to locate much to either prove or disprove whether I am supposed to exist here. But perhaps it is punishment for my past follies…" He could tell that Howl knew. He did find a few legends that referenced a place that seemed like Laputa, however, these ‘fictional’ kingdoms were never airborne. Oddly, a common theme was the untimely downfall of these utopias, usually by one or more of their own citizens.

Muska knew that pain.

"If I must guess, I’d think that this sudden change of scenery is some sort of mechanism in the games of a ‘higher force’. I would prefer not to be a pawn in this game, as I have never enjoyed sudden changes…" And Muska didn’t like the uncertainty of these situations. But perhaps that stemmed from his desire to be in control.

He shrugged. “I did suspect odd workings, and I looked into some odd happenings… Albeit, there is a certain point where my attempts will be blocked by an odd force. I am unsure if that is because I have been taken out of my own time and have thus been denied the full extent of my magic, or if it is just that I have not cracked this ‘code’.”

"I suppose that is where you come in. I understand if you do not wish to get your own hands dirty, but I would appreciate some assistance in getting to the bottom of this. If you wish, I will take on the less than moral jobs— as it seems that both you and I want to figure this out."

“And when I want something, I make sure I get it.”

"For more than one reason, I find it hard that it's a different time than your own," Howl responded, having certain experience with these things. "For one, my friend, there's many of us that have been brought here and, at least in my case, I'm a hundred percent certain that it wasn't any sort of time travel."

The man leaned back on the couch and smiled mischievously. "I don't mean to take you off your cloud of self-respect, but I don't think anyone's bothered to break time to get you here. However, I do agree on your reasoning of a higher force being in this. I can't understand why they'd even bother, but so far I've been looking into going back more than anything."

Leaning forward, the wizard brushed some strands of hair off his face. "Magic in Earth is most likely different from the one in your world. It's different from the one in my home. Here, spells that are easy to cast in Ingary are nearly impossible. I'm not completely certain why, but it is true that energies between worlds are not always the same. But I can help you. For the fun of it."

"Friendship usually implies a non-physical relationship, right? However I agree, there are different types of love— But discussing such minor details is unnecessary." A small smile crossed the Laputian’s face—

"Don’t get the wrong impression about my lifestyle from my living arrangements. If you have seen other mansions before, they are usually facades to hide a dull and static lifestyle. However—"

He nodded toward a passing butler— “Tea, yes. We will be in the study.”

"— I do not hide a static lifestyle. I find your eagerness to learn about this pendant quite entertaining. There are principles of its nature that I do not doubt that you’d grasp. However, its true history has been… a puzzle to most."

Heading up to the second floor, Muska waited for Howl before opening a door to what at first appeared to be a large yet empty room. Whispering a phrase, runes lit up against the walls, revealing that in fact, the contents of the room were cleverly hidden behind enchantments and hidden panels.

"You wish to know about where I acquired this pendant? I made it. However, forging items from Aetherium is a talent known only to the citizens of the Laputian Empire. If you have read enough old legends, you should know that they were said to have died out nine-hundred years ago. A revival was attempted seven-hundred years after the collapse of the empire, however… It is also written that the King who attempted this perished."

"I do hope you are able to discern the rest of the tale for yourself. Now, I have shared what I would deem a considerable amount of information. We are not here for storytelling… Albeit, if we are searching for the same answers, then you have been pulled away from your familiar surroundings as well? I would like to know why we are here.”

Howl smiled, and walked into the room, removing his suit's jacket. He took a seat and looked at the man as he spoke. At this point, it was all obvious. This person was the King who perished. Except, he didn't perish. Howl was no stranger to that sort of trick; he himself had erased his tracks from a pair of worlds before with relative ease.

"In a way, I was taken from a familiar place, yes, though I must admit I was actually born here," the wizard responded. "I wouldn't call it my home, though, and I definitely wish to find out the reason too, because it's all just too well done for it to have been an accident."

However, Howl wasn't sure if he wanted to pursue whoever was behind this. He could assume people like this one would do so for him, though. "I know there are ways back, too, at least in my case. I jut have to find another one."

"Don’t worry, Howl. I am not interested in an emotional connection beyond friendship. If you had the wrong idea, I am sorry for sending out inaccurate signals." The Laputian gave a small nod. "I do hope, however, that my living arrangement will still have a pleasing aesthetic."

It didn’t take too long for the two to arrive at the mansion. Since living directly in New York City would be difficult, the mansion was instead located a bit away from the major bustle of human activities. Gilded gates opened as the limousine approached and a maid opened the front doors. Stepping out from the limousine, Muska smiled at the maid.

'Welcome home, Master Tevan. Who is your friend?'

A gentle smile crossed his face— “Rachel, this is Howl. He is visiting for business purposes.” He handed his coat to the maid before focusing back on Howl. “Feel free to relax. We may be here for a while.” Motioning for Howl to fully enter the mansion, the immortal sighed. If Howl was what Muska suspected— a human with magic (honestly, that was rare—) then this was also an opportunity to go home… To find Sheeta again and beg her forgiveness. Because Gods, he knew he’d have to.

"The dining room is to the left and adjacent is the lounge. We will most likely remain mainly on the second floor study. But first, I do think tea would do good for us both."

And if Howl had been impressed with the outside of the mansion, Muska was certain he’d adore the magnificent air within.

Besides, a king still needed his castle.

"There's many different sorts of friendship, so that's vague," Howl responded, just to tease. Truth be told, he was very amused by this man's way of speaking, and made him wonder if people often thought hte same of his own behaviour.

"It's a nice home," the wizard said politely, though he didn't really like it all that much. Large houses were more often than not there just to display power and wealth, and people who needed to display such a thing were often boring and lonely, resulting in a large house with too little things and people in it. Howl liked his own penthouse apartment much more than this place, but he could admit it wasn't bad at all. But still, a king is what makes the castle; not the other way around.

"Tea sounds good, yes," the man responded, looking around. "Though I'm eager to learn the nature of that pendant around your neck. Where did you get it?"

"Oh, I do miss home it is just I’ve been stuck on finding out how to go home" Sohpie certainly did not want Howl to think otherwise, she had missed him but this newly found freedom had also tempted her to slow her process in finding answers on how to return home. "I suppose I have a little bit, although it is very different from home"

At his next sentence Sophie scoffed, “Of course you’ve caused trouble” She replied, moving to sip the coffee before her as she stared down the man before her. “You’re middle name is trouble, and have you really? What took you so long to find me then?”

"Well, I've been trying to find you," he responded, "But there has been no success. I've also been working on a spell, and... Well, my career. I sort of got into modeling when I got here."

"Hm. Well, you certainly have proven your intellectual prowess. And I suppose that perhaps I have not met every person in this city. However, I have noted that reporters will often look for the latest ‘scoop’ on almost anyone they can find."

He noted how Howl seemed to enjoy the public attention, but he did seem the type. So it wasn’t a huge surprise. Giving a nod to his new friend the Laputian gave a simple flick of his hand. In less than two minutes, a limousine pulled up. “It would be best to converse away from public, as I realize there may be some activities involved that would be less than acceptable to the eyes of everyday people.”

Smiling at the chauffeur who stepped out of the luxurious vehicle, Muska motioned for Howl to join him. “I do hope that a mansion will do as a setting for this date that we seem to be embarking on.”

The chauffeur returned to his position in the driver’s seat of the limousine, giving a respectful nod to the immortal. "We are returning home, Master Tevan?"

"Yes. Ah, and before I forget, Allen, this is Howl. He will be accompanying us home."

Golden eyes focused back on Howl— “If I had to guess, you are searching for answers to the same question that I am. Thus I ask, is my deduction correct? If so, I may have a way to help you. The most useful materials are within my mansion, thus it is best to conduct our theories there.”

Howl grinned. This man liked to talk. As the wizard hadn't much to add, he listened for now, and nodded in agreement. At his next suggestion, hwoever, he couldn't help but respond, as the possible innuendo in there was hard to ignore. Probably nothing, as this man was apparently not from ehre, but still, it was amusing. "Ah! Well, you do like to move fast, don't you? But that's fine. It's probably better to keep away from everyone here for now," the man agreed. His first matter of business was his ersearch, of course, and it was more important than any date.

Howl crouched to make his way into the vehicle, and took a seat comfortably, though remained straight-seated and grinning proudly. He didn't have a limusine, though it was just because he didn't want to have one. He was more of a man who impressed through his own charms than those of money. Most of the time. "You're correct this time, yes," the wizard responded with a nod. "I can't wait to see that mansion of yours."
