Jesus, have you been awake the entire night?

It's 4am. You need sleep.

I promise, I'm fine. I just look tired a lot, thanks to... the tiredness.

Look, I'm okay! I've pulled all nighters before.

This isn't the first time I've gone without sleep.

I'll carry you to bed if I have to.

You just ran into the wall. It's time to lie down.

That earned a genuine smile out of the gentle giant. “That would be very helpful… so long as it does not add to your work load. The last thing I want to do is be a burden.” He said lightly, though it was a veil to hide how true the statement was. Bart didn’t want to be a burden, especially after all the Hearts had done for him, Law most of all. It was likely that Law would need something strong. Bart had once been shot with 4 tranquilizer darts for elephants in the ass and was only drowsy and sluggish from it. “I’m very resistant to tranquilizers but I don’t know if that applies to other medicines.” He warned not wanting Law to waste resources needlessly. Indeed, a stubborn streak is something he and Law seemed to share.

At the mention of Bepo the large man grimaced a little. “Latrine duty, Laundry, dish-washing, cleaning the kitchen and the halls. And then Shachi and Penguin had me moving and rearranging the store room… then their quarters as well as cleaning them. Then I had free time so I helped Ikkaku in the engine room.” Bart paused a moment. “Oh and I made tonight’s coffee.” He finished finally. Bepo may have been running him ragged to most but it was nothing he wasn’t used to. In fact, Bepo was very kind compared to The dragons. It was more like he had trouble finding things for him to do. 

Why the grimace then? Well, who actually liked cleaning toilets.

   “Really? Good to know. And it’s no trouble. I am your doctor as well as your captain,” Law says, leaning forwards in his seat to take up a pen and a spare scrap of paper. He scrawls down this bit of information, making some annotations about what kind of tranquilizers the big guy has been exposed to. He also notes that Bart might be resistant to certain sedatives, something that will be important if he ever has to put the guy under for surgery. All things he’ll add to the file he’s constructing on Jean Bart.

   Then Bart goes on to explain what Bepo has been making him do. Usually the Hearts Pirates have a rotational schedule for doing all those chores, along with having their own specific roles in the crew. So far Law has yet to appoint Bart with a set role so he saw no problem with letting Bepo order the guy around for a while. It gives the polar bear mink some confidence along with giving the new guy something to do. So, for the most part Law just leans back in his chair, resting the side of his head on a closed fist. And then Bart mentions Shachi and Penguin’s contribution to the new guy’s work load.

   His content expression darkens, the captain displeased with this. He’d give those two the job to reorganise the store room for a reason. Penguin because its his duty as head cook to keep the room clean, organised and well stocked, and Shachi because Law had found him slacking off a little earlier. And then to make Bart clean and rearrange their rooms? Those spaces are their own responsibility, no one else’s. They are definitely getting a talking to for this.

   “Did they now? Those little shits,” Law hisses. There is a sigh and his hand lowers. “Bart, if anyone else tries to get you to clean their rooms refuse. Their room is their own responsibility, not yours. And don’t worry. You won’t be doing chores forever. It’s just until I figure out where to put you. … On that note, how’d you do with Ikkaku in the engine room?”

"It isn't really a problem. It's actually pretty light work compared to the stuff you get put through on Mary Geoise." He replied but would not argue. If Law did not want him to do that extra amount of work, he wouldn't. On that, he added in regards to aiding Ikkaku, "I was able to help a bit, I think. I know a bit about machinery. There is a surprising amount of it in Mary Geoise that they make slaves operate. I even had my turn at it... it's not as pleasant as the workings of the Polar Tang." Bart concluded sharing what he did know as well as how things had gone with Ikkaku. He mostly aided in the heavy lifting and helping her reach things by picking her up.

As far as medically speaking, Bart had good overall physical health, no allergies he knew of other than resilience to tranquilizers. Mentally was a different manner. You didn't come out of being a slave of the Tenryuubito and losing your crew without more than a few psychological scars and even a few trauma induced disorders. Though Bart himself did not seem fully aware of them. There were a few he did notice, though, and was trying in his own way to overcome.

“CAPTAIN!!” The large man roared seeing the state of the man that had saved him. His voice was tinged with concern, worry and rage at those that had done this. There was a fierce crash, screams and then splatters of something hitting the walls and floor. The sicken cracking of bones as slowly the cries died down into a frightening silence.

That was when the looming huge figure came back into view, offering a brief reprieve from the blinding light. Bart was gentle as he picked Law up and carried him out. Stopping only briefly to rip the sea stone cuffs off his captain, ever careful not to injure the man further. “Just relax Captain, the Polar Tang is right outside, so is the rest of the crew.” He reassured him so he wouldn’t worry about the others. 

Bart then used the tiny Den Den Mushi to say, “I have him. Return to the Tang!” He informed, suggesting the others had spread out to search for Law as well, it was just that Jean Bart had found him first…

   “Not so loud, man,” Law whispers, voice hoarse. “Got a splitting headache.”

   A dry chuckle rattles in his throat, the Surgeon of Death amused by his own dark humour because the pounding in his skull is much more than a headache. There is a slow blink as he watches his crewmate crash out through the cell door and into the room beyond. A torture chamber meant to break any who get dragged into this building. He didn’t break. They learned nothing and now they never will.

   The smirk on his features turns into one of sadistic joy. His eyes close and Law hums as he listens to Bart’s angry vengeance. It’s a beautiful symphony of pain to his ears, the Hearts Captain relishing every second of it. It speaks to that cruel hate within him, to that part of him that just wants to destroy as many lives as he can. The part that he so often has to suppress. There is a sigh, shaky and pained but content. He is still smiling when Bart returns.

   “Did you have fun?” he asks as Bart removes his chains. “Sounds like it was fun.”

   He knows he probably shouldn’t be talking but he can’t help himself right now. The words are keeping him from passing out completely. He needs to stay awake just for a little while longer. If he falls asleep now Law can’t be certain he’ll wake up again. Hopefully the Tang is already prepped for getting a patient as badly injured as he is. Still, the moment he’s being cradled against Bart’s warm chest it gets much harder for him to stay awake. A weak hand tangles fingers into the big guy’s shirt, ear pressed against Bart’s chest. Law’s eyes close and he focuses on the beating of Jean Bart’s heart.

The big man responded to Law's questions with a big grin. He was often the gentle giant after his time as a slave, but moments like this awoke the beast in him. It was freeing, and Law seemed to understand this side of him quite well.

"I made sure to have enough fun for both of us." He replied. He wasn't the medical professional that Law was, not even close, but he knew enough to know that Law losing consciousness now was not a good thing. That his captain was in very bad shape, and keeping him talking was probably the best thing to do.

"So what did they ask you? You tell them off?" He asked more as a point of conversation as he made his way to the Polar Tang. They all knew Law wouldn't be in good shape. They were prepared. He just hoped they were prepared enough.

Luna frowned. She didn’t have to be Sherlock to notice the state of the kitchen or get the jist of what happened. Seeing no spurts of blood, the best this 5'4 girl could offer in this senario was to properly wrap the wounds. “Want me to wrap that?”

He was a bit hesitant. His time as a slave had made him wary of strangers and receiving help from others. It had taken him time to even open up to his new Nakama among the Heart Pirates. Law had made the process easier as he was his savior from life as a Tenryuubito slave, but he still had some issues. “Y-yeah, I’m not the best at that.” He admitted revealing the cut forearm that had been hidden. He’d be ok, he’d just watch her like a hawk and if she tried anything he’d crush her swiftly.

The conversation started to go smoothly until Bart noticed her blushing. Mistaking her blush of awkward shyness as sickness, and at his questioning, only made Luna blush into a bright red. With her pale skin, this would definitely make her look feverish to those that where familiar with her. “I-I’m fine!” Luna immediately replied. Thrusting the pot up, since he insisted on holding it, while turning her face away from him in embarrassment.  Quickly changing the subject to the pervious conversation, Luna led the way across the street at a brisk walk, “What kind of disposable gloves do you need? surgical or ones for routine examinations and first aid?” Luna wasn’t yet made aware of the skill level of Bart’s ship doctor. Very few ships had their own surgeon and, unfortunately, most amputations were done by the ship’s carpenter. Carpenter… that reminded Luna she should probably invest in one as her and Kaito have been trying to manage most the ship repairs on their own. After a few minutes the blush in Luna’s cheeks subsided, aided by the more comfortable topic of medical supplies. “There are many kinds of disinfectants too.”

Bart took the pot but still cast her a look of concern. "If you say so... but don't push yourself." He stated, not wanting to press the topic if she insisted she was OK, but at the same time, suggested that she take care of herself if she was actually feeling ill.

"Surgical, though the later couldn't hurt to have some more of too." He stated. He may not be a medical expert of any sort, but he knew why they were short on disposable gloves at least. Law could go through a lot of them durring surgeries. Cleanliness and sterilization were very important, so changing gloves often to avoid cross contamination and the like was something very important.

"Are there? I guess I should pick up an assortment..." He muttered in response to learning of the different disinfectants. He could have probably asked someone on the sub, but he was trying not to burden them as much as possible.

"If you need a shoulder to lean on or someone to listen, I'm here."

"I'll keep that in mind, Ikkaku. It isn't so bad these days. I have you, the captain, and everything one else now." He replied warmly to the engineer. He knew what she was referring to without her needing to outright say it. His big, kind-hearted grin contrasting his with big, burly, and intimidating exterior.

Two years ago, Law freed him from life as a slave. The scars were both physical and emotional, and he could think of nothing worse than being enslaved to the monsters called "Celestial Dragons." He wouldn't wish that fate on anyone.

The scars on him would always be there, but they did not define him. But he knew Ikkaku worried about how hard he worked. Carry heavy loads for her as well as never complaining. Mentally, the condition was hard to break sometimes, but he was doing these things because he wanted to and not because he was being told to.

"Besides, are you sure you wanna hear about... that place?" He asked, not sure she wanted to hear validation on just how awful Mary Geoise was.

Of course it wasn’t that Ikkaku wasn’t a beautiful woman on average, but when she got dressed up she was a rare gem to behold. Her beauty really shinning and he wanted to help if he could. Though knowing Law, he would not be interested in ether option, it was worth asking though.

A punching bag with a crude drawing of a man wearing a fishbowl over his head on it.

Now this was a gift he could get behind... apparently literally too as he punched the face of the drawing so hard his fist was now inside the punching bag. This was... unfortunate. "Uhhh... Ikkaku--!?" He called out for a little assistance. Hopefully she wouldn't be too upset that he had damaged her gift to him so soon.

It wasn't the most expertly crafted of ship models, but Bart could tell there was effort and hard work put into it. Gently accepted it with a smile. Why he was being gifted such a thing he wasn't sure. He wasn't a "kid" person but refusing a gift would be rude and he wasn't exactly mean. There was no harm in accepting the gift, maybe he could fix it up and improve it a bit later.

Is it a copout to say Bart x Happiness? Because I just want this poor guy to be happy.

It isn't. XD Bart x Happiness is as Valid as Law x Happiness, lol! Both of these guys have been through a lot and need some happiness honestly.
