Hello gorgeous Gunnar & family! I've been following your family's story & it's one I know reasonably well - I was born with ToF and underwent corrective surgery at five weeks old, so both myself and my family know some of the ups and downs of your situation! Look who’s finally awake!

Some folks have been asking for updates and I finally have some news to share. To recap, our little buddy Gunnar had major heart surgery on April 15th, 2015 and though he did absolutely wonderful, he was under for nearly fifteen hours. As a result of being on bypass for so long, Gunnar had a fever for a while and because of the intense operation, there was a lot of swelling and they were unable to close his chest. Gunnar was heavily sedated, intubated and put on tons of painkillers and medications while they waited for the swelling to go down. On April 20th, they closed Gunnar’s chest. Slowly, Gunnar started to wake up as they tried to ween him off the sedatives and painkillers. On April 23rd, Gunnar was extubated and for the first time since his surgery was awake and responsive. And as of today, April 24th and his mother’s birthday, Gunnar is on oxygen and nothing else.

Gunnar has fought so hard and done so well but his journey is not nearly over. This little man still has a lot of obstacles to overcome and a lot of battles to fight and if you want to help out, you can donate to his GoFundMe or send him and his family a kind message of support. My sweet Gunna Ched, it appears you have half of a nation rooting for you, and how could they not? You are simply amazing and anyone who sees your photos or videos or meets you just completely falls in love with you. I love you. Kick ass today. aunt keek Danielle (I'll save the nicknames so you won't get embarrassed), you're my best friend, my role model, my other half, the Gertrude to my Hawk, the Frank's to my.........**** (you know). I don't know what I'd do without you, you're the most amazing and loving sister and mother (because you are my mom too) and I hope you never forget that. I'm so lucky to have someone like you to look up to and tell people about how many struggles you fight off and overcome on a daily basis. Anyway you know all of this and I love you. Can't wait to see you and Ched home soon so we can all bake in the sun and be beach babies all summer.

hi danielle and gunnar! this is natalie (kait's friend) and i just want to wish you all the hope and love and strength in the world, especially for tomorrow. as i told kaitlynn i cannot imagine what you're going through but you have so many people rooting for you little gunnar, you're so so strong and brave and to know you've been in high spirits since you got there is truly amazing. you're amazing. you're gonna be even more special and adorable and braver when this is all over and i hope (cont)
