The other feature of this generation was number keys and number pads. They were right of course, we would eventually need 8 action buttons, 2 analog stick press actions, 2 sticks and 2-3 central menu-related buttons to be happy. Learn more about the creation of this artwork here.

At the time, I wanted a 5200, but I didn’t have any friends to try it out and it wasn’t widely available. Then when Colecovision launched, I got one of those instead. Whew.

I was Team Nintendo during this gen, and spend a ton of time playing on this thing (my main was the black model). So many good memories.

The default color was an...unusual choice. Who doesn’t remember the Great Console Wars of the early 2000s, spread across every gaming message board? The color was often derided for its kiddeh appeal, but what fun was had with this thing!
