“Not all toxic people are cruel and uncaring. Some of them love us dearly. Many of them have good intentions. Most are simply toxic to our being simply because their needs and way of existing force us to compromise ourselves and our happiness. They aren’t inherently bad people, but they aren’t the right people for us”
— Daniell Koepke (via purplebuddhaquotes)
girls dont mature faster than boys, girls are punished from an early age for the same behaviour that boys are allowed to indulge in well into adulthood
My biggest pet peeve is being talked to AS SOON as i wake up. I hate that shit. Stop tryin to communicate with me. Stop askin me questions. Im tryna understand the universe all over again dont talk to me yet ur gonna confuse me and piss me off.
when women say “i hate men” they mean it in the “stop hurting me and my sisters” kind of way, not the “i want to rape, murder and oppress you” way. you know, the way men hate women.
There are few phrases in the English language more abhorrent, more insidious, more absolutely goddamn infuriating than these five words: Th...
“Neurobiology has evolved to explain why victims respond in ways that make it seem like they could be lying, even when they’re not.
The brain’s prefrontal cortex – which is key to decision-making and memory – often becomes temporarily impaired.
The amygdala, known to encode emotional experiences, begins to dominate, triggering the release of stress hormones and helping to record particular fragments of sensory information.
Victims can also experience tonic immobility – a sensation of being frozen in place – or a dissociative state.
These types of withdrawal result from extreme fear yet often make it appear as if the victim did not resist the assault.”
Basically, traumatic experiences like rape are often encoded in fragmented ways in the brain, making it so that victims cannot recall their assault in a clear, linear manner, often focusing on minutia (such as the attacker’s smell) that may seem insignificant to law enforcement.
This can lead to discrepancies in victims’ stories, as they’re not able to recall everything perfectly, causing officers to be suspicious about their entire report.
Minimum wage: $7.25
$7.25 x 40 hour full time work week: $290
$290 x 4 weeks per month: $1,160
In every Southern state (didn’t have time to look at the rest of the country) you can find some sort of studio apartment for around $500 per month, sometimes less than that. Why bother lying about something so easily disproven?
Because Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t going to fact check him, and they’ll ignore any contrary evidence that’s presented to them anyways.
Things like this really tick me off and It’s not political or anything but it’s the fact that you think all that money is there. Here’s what I mean;
That weekly check comes to, according to you, 290. Most places DO NOT pay for your half hour lunch that is required by law. So your beginning number was wrong. $7.25 x 7.5 hours a day x 5 days a week only gets you $271.88. Most people in America get paid bi-weekly, so let’s double it to get the budget. $543.75. That’s GROSS, not NET. Out of that comes anywhere between 10% and 15% taxes depending on state so we’ll low ball it at 10%. Automatically down to $489.38 a pay check. Now health insurance. Usually anywhere from 70-100 a pay check for the cheapest plans. Again, we’ll low ball and go $70. So now we have $419.39 a paycheck. x 2 = $839.
Eight hundred thirty nine dollars. A MONTH.
But again, you seem to think that’s fair. So let’s proceed. You say rent is $500? Okay. This person now has $339 left to buy groceries for the whole month, pay utilities, car payment, car insurance, and gas money to get to work.
Those are the bare needs. You have to eat. You have to pay for heat, water, garbage removal, gas and or electricity because apartments do not always include things and rarely all of the above. Most cities in America do not have public transportation. Mine doesn’t despite the fact that our population is over 15,000 people, not counting a taxi. If you have a car, you have to pay that. If you have a car, legally you have to have car insurance. You have to pay that. You have to have gas in that car to get to work to make that money.
Now if you can tell me you can get all of that out of $339 you’re lying.
You are so focused on rent that you aren’t thinking about everything else people have to pay for. Rent was an example. This is a breakdown of the budget you gave me and it’s not possible to live off that in 2017 America.
And BECAUSE this person makes over $800 a month, they probably won’t qualify for financial aid or food stamps. $800 is the line in my state where they won’t help you. No food stamps, financial aid, or government housing if you make more than $800 a month.
Why does it bother you that people deserve to live above the poverty line?
This is also assuming you actually get 40 hours a week from your job. Most people working at minimum wage jobs get more like 25-35.
Linsday Lohan comments on her experience of wearing a headscarf in America while studying Islam - an experience that is a reality for many Hijabi-wearing Muslim Women.
She does better than any of the white feminists y'all like to build up
I love how not ONE of these people mentioned his sexual assault cases, him calling mocking Muslims and Mexicans, him demonizing the black community, him taking away reproductive rights, him making fun of a disabled reporter, or him supporting Mike pence, the homophobe. this really shows that these people prioritize themselves over anyone…. sucks when you find out it’s not only minorities getting fucked over!!!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They were willing to risk the safety and well being of the many minorities of America just for their own person gain. But now that they see they finna get fucked just the rest of us for the next 4 years, they got that buyers remorse.
Look at how well you age when you stay in your lane
they are just stripping away everything that gives non-millionaires/billionaire a real fighting chance. smfh.
Guys next year we have serious work to do. Get out and elect an anti trump house and senate, thats step 1.
DO IT
I watch two of my students go around and collect the extra sandwiches and milks leftover from after school to bring home so that they have food for dinner and breakfast. They have done this every week for the last three years.
I’ve even seen former students do this when they come to school to visit. Even growing teenagers don’t want extra cheese sandwiches unless they’re really hungry.
This is not hyperbole. After school programs are saving the lives of children. No child should be going hungry in this country.
Guys, guys, guys, we ALL know these programs don’t do ANYTHING productive. How are we supposed to ask the average taxpayer to use their money to keep vunerable children off the street or feed old people???
Jesus, it’s really hard to even sarcastically take these assholes’ side to make a dumb joke. It’s like they have absolutely no shame in how evil they are.
Just an addition: it’s not just the US who are facing cuts to these services. Kids in the UK are being subject to them as well. With the election coming up rapidly, take a long hard look at who you’re voting for.
The 1950s were not perfect and they were especially bad for women and minorities, the LGBTQ community, anyone with mental health issues, victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sex abuse, sexual harassment. It was harder to get a formal education. Schools were segregated. Smoking was rampant. People died from all cancers. I wouldn’t want to go back.
I will be part of the landscape. I will have raised my children and they their own to believe in equality, love without borders, and diversity as more than words. They will be respectful, responsible, and resilient. They will work together for a better world. Someday our society will look beyond race, gender, religion, and other things which divide us. We will finally just become humans nothing more and nothing less.
This last paragraph should become everyone’s oath to themselves and all others.
I just left my husband alone with our two children for sixteen days. I was not worried about anything regarding the house, their food, or their wellbeing. I put all the appointments in the family calendar and my husband checked it and kept them. I literally did not worry about them. I missed them, and I was sad that they missed me, but I didn’t worry about them AT ALL. I need to impress upon you all that I missed their company, but was not worried for their welfare.
I also did no meal prep. I don’t even think I went shopping right before I left.
This is not about apples and oranges. This isn’t even about my husband. This is about the fact that this is apparently WEIRD.
Another mum at my daughter’s school is leaving for ten days. She’s taking her youngest (who is a very small baby) and leaving her husband with their two girls. She has been cooking for days preparing freezer meals. She’s panicking and deputizing her six year old to remind him how to make school lunches. AND I AM APPALLED.
A) He is definitely not helpless. (He’s a doctor or something.) What gendered bullshit. B) THAT LITTLE GIRL IS NOT OLD ENOUGH TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HER AND HER SISTER’S WELLBEING. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. C) Why is she married to this person and creating children with him if he’s this big of an idiot?
While she was laughingly recounting this, the other mums were nodding and smiling sympathetically, like oh yes, I too have my caveman at home!! Such managing required! I was the only one who was like “Dude, he’ll be fine. Literally. He will be fine.” I said it a lot. She was not convinced. She kept bringing up her older daughter. She’ll be like a little mum!
NO.
NO NO NO NO.
NO.
Straight women, don’t do this shit. It’s gross. Don’t infantilize your husbands and then expect your daughters to pick up the slack. So fucking gross. So. So. GROSS.
The fact that so many adults think a six year old girl is more capable of learning and performing basic domestic tasks than a grown-ass man says it all, really.
This stuff is so toxic and awful. I told a car full of women one time that I refused to be in another relationship until I met a man who was capable of making his own doctors’ appointments and washing the dishes. They told me I was going to die alone.
Fuck this shit. Don’t enable men’s incompetence and label it cute.
I’d rather die the fuck alone, to be completely honest. I am a grown ass woman, what I will not be doing is parenting a person who is supposed to be my fucking partner.
And I feel men need to understand this, to get it deep in their bones. We have children to have children, knowing we’re responsible for their behavior and wellbeing for years.
We marry to have a partner, an equal, who can help us as well as be helped throughout our lives together. If you’re not prepared for that, don’t get married. If you want a housekeeper/caretaker/therapist, hire one.
Michelle Alexander is a civil rights lawyer, advocate, and scholar.
She has done extensive research on the intersections between race and criminal justice as an associate law professor at Stanford University and Ohio State University, and helped lead a national campaign against racial profiling as the director of the ACLU of Northern California’s Racial Justice Project.
In her book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, she explores in detail the nature of mass incarceration and the impact of structural racism in the modern era — and, like the other women on this list, makes sure to take a close look at the intersections of race, class, and gender in her work.
Her writing demonstrates that issues like mass incarceration and the War on Drugs should be key feminist concerns.
