James has stolen baby Devin away, and is giving a tour of their home while playfully avoiding his rival. He'll return the baby in exchange for kisses. "I recall you saying you'd kiss me until my lips were smoldering, and yet they remain unkissed!"

✞ He has been looking for their dear newborn-- he wanted to show the baby his ancient keepsakes! There are SO many stories to tell... He zipped from hall to hall with cracks of lightning until he finally spotted them. And upon locking eyes with them, his rival calls out to them about his kiss. He gives an irritable laugh, and he begins to pace toward them, his shoulders tense, then... his light brightens harsher. He lifts his mask and shows how his mouth begins to glow. Oh, he has missed pushing his inner fire to burn, now that he is certain it will bring the child no harm. They were not difficult to carry, but naturally he began to miss a certain... intensity innate to his usual form.

" Come here, my foe... I will erupt flames on your skin. " He outstretches his hands, takes them, shares in holding Devin, and yanks them to his lips, of which his light was so piercing it let off glaring beams like sunlight from the cracks between their locked lips, and he did not let them flinch away as he burned their tongue. Then he let them go.

" ... Have I kept my word? " If they struggle to speak, they are welcome to nod...

"Can we look through our wedding photos again?" After the other days discussion, they need to focus on the present, he feels.

He says, peaking his head up from the book he was reading, before flicking two fingers to levitate one of their ornate scrapbooks to his hand. " I told you! If it wasn't me, then it was a perfect tie... We must have pinned each other's throats at identical moments... gaze here, see it in the motion that streaks our hands? " He displays, facing it to them, pointing a hand to the photo's blurred detail. His favorite photo. That's why he wished for it to have its own dedicated page.

In fact, as he gives it a second look, he stops to gaze at it fondly. Especially the expression on James's face. He himself appears more aglow in photos than in person-- but he is very much still visible! His dress and armor especially-- yes, he was wearing both-- and his mask certainly helps.

" Do you think perhaps we should... have this photo painted someday? Oh-- arranged in stained glass, even..? " He does adore stained glass. It might be... an angel thing, he wonders. But it seems he's successfully taken their mind off the past for a moment...

He is lucky-- truly LUCKY that the circumstances for which his love for his rival took form allowed for his brothers to be willing to hear him in the first place-- if only by force-- and to not simply deem him a traitor to God and marked for elimination. Which he very nearly was.

They did come to SEE his child. Even if the quiet, horrified energy they carried was a bit like... witnessing a natural disaster. They are not at all... warm to this sheer level of open-mindedness. But who can blame them? Neither was he.

That is, besides Raphael. Always Raphael.

" They are enduring so much change... I cannot help but be patient with them. I know the pain and confusion they are in... And-- I am not without hope-- I feel that they may come around! ✞ The realization of exactly who else will never meet their next of kin... It makes him flinch, an utterly different sadness washing over him as his head and wings fall lower.

And for a moment he just sits with them in silence... but they have to go and tease him like that. A sharp, strong, and offended scoff, blurting out all the emotion in his chest, he leans inches from their nose with his wings flared. " Oh-ho! Does it now..? Hurt one of my brothers again-- see how many galaxies of FIRE I can descend upon you! " A pause. He tilts his head.

" But... they are your brothers now, too... " He grips their chin. " That... shall be revenge enough for now. " He says with a twinge of humor. In jest. Mostly.

✞ It is strange. He is convinced no mortal-- perhaps no one else at all could understand it-- how its possible to be so deeply tethered to someone who cannot comfort your grief because they themselves are the source of it. Yet it made sense to the angel, somehow.

" ... Why? Would it be easier if I were to hate you with the intensity of 10 suns and tear you limb from limb in honor of my fallen brethren, demon? " He chuckles sadly.

" ... Well, give it time. " But first he needs... time.

Idea or concept — when it’s the end of the world and Gabe and Luci have that final battle do you think he would carry on or would he also end himself so they went together instead of having to face the void alone ?

{{ Oooughhh.... Armageddon is going to be such a difficult thing for him to accept, but he swore to him he'd give them an absolutely honorable fight when it really came down to there being nothing he could do to prevent fate for any longer. Knowing them-- I would not be surprised if it ended in them killing each other at the same time! That would be very on brand lmao-- but... its not Gabe's way to end himself deliberately. After all-- if he's driven to fighting Lucifer to the death, its because he's fighting for something massive.

BUT, in the end... they're both facing their death already.

Lucifer is the one to face destruction in the chaos of war in an ending world, yes, but how does order lead to death? Entropy. Whatever is an angel's idea of perfection waiting on the other side of that light without darkness-- everything Gabe's ever existed for and everything his very nature pulls him toward-- he is going to dissolve into the order he was born from, flawless, immutable, contented, and forever... devoid of life.

And I think by the end, after everything, there is going to be a terrible twinge of sadness in that, one he never would have had were it not for them, and he's going to realize he is not ascending to some great happily ever after-- he is dying. This is the end of the person his brother once called Gabriel.

Our hands were slowly being pulled apart just like the stars rapidly expanding from the center of the galaxy, it was always going to end this way, like the heat death of the universe, the nature of our conflicting perspectives was the burst that set all this in motion in the first place. I could not join you even if I followed. You are not reachable, now. But if there is something on the other side of this endless black and endless white then I shall meet you there, as I must-- at the gray line that binded us once and will bind us again, brother. }}

Forgive this humble observer, and while I want to congratulate you on Prince Devin's arrival, there is something I'm wondering. All of the archangels were supposed to meet your son. But Jophiel didn't seem to make it there.

He explains, quiet, tense. There's a reason that name wasn't uttered amongst all the already strained congregations between his heavenly family and his new family. That name brought up tornadoes of emotion-- even towards is brothers, though you might not expect it. But he knows they were duty bound, he knows their hands were tied, he knows all the reasons they couldn't explain... Not even the death of another archangel. But would it have made a difference?

It doesn't matter now. Now their wording sticks in his mind-- didn't seem to make it. No, they didn't make it, did they? They never will, now. Never get to meet them...
