I’ve only played BtN and the remake FoMT But never the actual N64 version which seems so much more in depth. Is it true Cliff really gets a black eye from Anne after they get married???

Unfortunately, yeah.

It's one of the things about Harvest Moon 64 that has aged really badly. Ann and Cliff's relationship is very troubled and unhappy.

I don't know what their relationship was like in BTN and FOMT (I didn't get the rivals married in BTN and I married Ann in FOMT), but i have to assume it was better than HM64
