Adrian had taken up his old spot at the bar, one arm braced on the counter as he watched the stage with the kind of focus that wasn’t casual at all. He never hovered during soundchecks, he “supervised,” as he’d proudly call it. But really, he watched Leon. Every adjustment, every note, every look between bandmates. Like he could already see the crowd reacting hours from now.

By the time Leon came back, Adrian had a glass of water waiting for him, pushed halfway across the bar like he’d done it without thinking. He looked up from the stage just in time to catch Leon rummaging for his cigarettes. A slow smile tugged at his mouth. "Ten more, huh?" Adrian drawled. "Yeah, I figured. You came back wearing the 'I didn’t fuck anything up' face." He nodded once toward the stage, a rare, quiet kind of approval in his eyes. "Sounded good. Real good. You’re warmed up, dialed in. The ballad? That one’s gonna ruin some poor bastard in the front row. Just wait." He pushed off the barstool and motioned toward the foyer where the merch tables usually went. "I’ll help you set up. I’m not letting you dump a suitcase full of wrinkled t-shirts on a table and call it a day."

He smirked, grabbing the end of the suitcase handle as if to drag Leon along with him. "Come on. Let’s make it look like you’re a professional and not a guy who lives out of his guitar case. You did good up there, Leon. Don’t start freaking out now."

"appreciate you, man," leon smiles and takes a sip of the glass of water the other one had waiting for him, immediately following him to the foyer. "i'm not," the musician says. just the act of performing -be it soundcheck or an actual show- eases his nerves. they usually don't hit again till five minutes before going on stage for the real deal. but right now, he's good. feeling good. they reach a table in a corner and leon bends down to open the suitcase, quickly grabbing a black tablecloth that's folded next to the t-shirts. "if you squint hard enough, that might do the trick," he laughs as he hands the fabric to adrian. "what are you doing on thanksgiving?"

Tristan took the blunt like it was a live grenade. He stared at it, then at Leon, then back at it. "Gentler on the throat," he echoed flatly. "You said that last time." He hesitated, then sighed and took a tiny drag, already bracing for impact. He exhaled fast, coughing only once, which he counted as a personal victory. "I didn’t die," he said, sounding genuinely proud. He leaned back against the brick wall beside Leon, hands shoved in the pockets of his rink jacket until Leon shoved the blunt toward him again. "Class was good," he answered, then corrected himself. "Well, practice. Kids’ session. Lot of tripping, not a lot of balance, but they’re getting there." He rubbed the back of his neck. "One kid tried to eat an ice cube off the rink, so, y’know. Standard day."

He nodded at Leon, smirking slightly. "And you? How’s, uh… music-ing?" He always butchered the terminology and gave up halfway through. "Did you finish that song you were stressing about?" He passed the blunt back lightly, careful not to drop it.

"you didn't," leon chuckles as he pats his friend's back. looking at the other side of the parking lot, two parents are waiting for their kid to tie his shoe. "i never put on ice skates when i was their age. and i sure as shit don't plan on doing it now," the blond shrugs. he turns back to tristan, shaking his head in hilarious disbelief. "kids are weird, man," his chuckle is sincere, amused. as the other hands him the joint, leon is quick to bring it to his lips, flicking the lighter one more time to make sure the blunt is lit. "oh, yeah," he holds the air for three seconds and exhales the smoke. there's more of it now. "i stressed about it some more and then i kind of got unstuck this morning." maybe it had to do with the home-studio he decluttered the night before when he couldn't sleep. the musician got up at nine am and procrastinated till eleven. then, he got high. two hours later, he'd created a bassline, resampled most of the drums, and recorded a bunch of guitars. then, he took a shower and went over to crystal ice palace with a blunt hidden in his pack of cigarettes to share with tristan. as a celebration for finishing a song without overthinking too much. "it's done, sent and more importantly, soon it'll be approved." most of the delivery of his words relays in trying to hide complicated feelings about his work and his self-worth. "what do you have going for the rest of the day?"

"'Course I did," Alana admitted with a laugh. She held up a finger to protest, "And I stand by that! She had an energy, like she's seen a lot." Her laughter only multiplied when Leon admitted he'd actually looked for cameras. "Damn, I would love to read Ashton Kutcher's palm." Alana swiped at a tear that managed to squeeze out, regaining her composure to refocus on their actual conversation. She took a sip of her martini, stirring the olive lazily as she listened intently. "And lived to tell the tale," she hummed, affectionate smile communicating just how glad she was for that fact. "It is, until you're in class with someone who knows your fucking EMDR targets," Alana laughed, taking the final sip of her drink and setting the glass aside. She leaned in to the shifting energy, crossing one leg over the other and letting her foot graze his, almost absently. "I'm not sure I do believe you," she lifted a brow, silently daring him to ask. "It's not very rockstar chic of you to fold your clothes." Her eyes darted to the door, then back to Leon, sweet smile tugging serenely at her lips.

"i'm not gonna pretend i know what that is," leon chuckles as she talks about EMDR. he knows it's some kind of therapy. or maybe it's a technology shit. either way, not much information. when alana starts grazing his foot with hers, the blond knows it's on. "it's a virgo trait," he smiles, noticing her eyeing the door. "but... i guess i like proving you wrong. just like the old days," he teases before calling over a bartender and asks to close his tab. "and put hers on mine. my treat," his hand finds her knee again, and squeezes it softly. now that he knows marcus fucked off -finally- leon is a little bolder with his actions, more intentional. "you're gonna swallow your words," he grins as he stands up and puts his jacket back on. "come on. up. i need to see your face when you realize just how cool and clean my place is."

Leyla didn’t look away when he said it. The joke, the panic under it, the real answer he tried to bury, she caught all of it. "Brilliant and unhinged is basically the Demirci family motto," she murmured first, just to keep things light. But when he said someone who stays, something in her expression gentled. "Yeah," she said quietly. "That makes sense." No teasing or cheap shots. Just honesty meeting honesty. "And it’s not too much to want," she added after a second. "Most people pretend it is, but it isn’t."

His last comment earned a soft, disbelieving laugh. "The sex addict part? Leon, please. That might be the least surprising thing you’ve said all night." She nudged his arm, smirk slipping back into place. "Obsessed and horny is easy. Staying isn’t. And if that’s what you really want… maybe stop acting like you don’t."

She started down the sidewalk again, slow enough for him to follow. Over her shoulder, her voice came back to him, low. "Your turn. Ask me something real."

leyla's words cut through his brain. it's not too much to want. sometimes he's felt like he's asking for the impossible, because someone who stays with him forever doesn't exist. leon shrugs, the limiting belief running circles in his mind. but then she teases him and all he can do is smirk back. "you wanted honest," he replies before thinking about her next statement. "listen, i can want something out of love, but that doesn't mean i want it right now." it's not like he's ready for that kind of commitment either. not again. it hurt too much last time. the blond picks up the pace till he's walking right next to his nighttime friend. "well... in the spirit of love, i guess," he looks at her, neglecting the ashes piling up on his half-smoked cigarette, "when was your last relationship? and why did it end?"

he usually bumps into vihaan at coffee runs in the morning. they always talk about hanging out, but it hasn't really happened. "i'm running on three hours of sleep, man." leon brings the hot cup of americano to his lips, standing by the other as he gets his own order. he'd stayed up till three am working on a demo for a meeting today.

Brianna had gone out to some shows that weren't right inside Windsor Bay. She looked around at the store as she was sat at the register, reading along. It was a slow day so she was able to read some more books because she loved to read as much as she could. When she heard the familiar voice, she looked up and made eye contact with Leon. "Oh, hey! Yes I do remember you." She said with a big smile on her face. "How are you doing?" She asked as she set the book down with the bookmark in it. @hecticlife

"brianna, isn't it?" leon asks with a smile. "i'm alright. didn't think i'd see you again." he honestly hadn't. he's been doing the one-night stand thing since he was twenty, except those four years he was madly, deeply in love with salem. but she's gone and instead of moping around the last ten months, the blond has found a way to subside his sexual energy by having random hookups. often. and he usually doesn't see them again unless fate has something to do with it.

“Before I moved here, so around 3 months ago…” Isa didn’t want to dampen the mood and so she forced out a smile and gestured a nonchalant wave, “Thank God for technology right? At least I can message or facetime her…” She then sipped her drink before chuckling at Leon’s response and said, “Agreed, but I’m glad that we both have that opportunity of doing what we love. I feel like that trumps everything else.” Seeing that it was time for him to get on stage, Isabella nodded in understanding before pulling him into a quick hug and wishing him luck, “I’ll be here this whole time and rallying up a cheer squad if anything! You got this!!! So proud of you.” As she let go, she then shooed him away before returning to her seat to enjoy her drink and getting ready to support Leon throughout his performance.

"there's like, ten people around. save some energy for tonight," leon grins and walks over to the stage. he tunes his guitar and sings a ballad about yearning for a lost dream angel. the vulnerability of his lyrics comes through his voice, invading the club. his band starts playing. the frontman likes performing with these guys. they're good and it's easy to vibe with them. after three songs, they pat each other's backs and agree to meet backstage twenty minutes before the set. leon's nerves have subsided. at least for now. he typically overthinks before soundcheck, and only five minutes before the show. it's a very intense feeling. but once he's performing, everything is cool. everything is fun.

"hey," he smiles once back in isa's periphery. "show's in three hours. what do you wanna do in the meantime?"

She smiles sweetly at the man, "The night is still young" she encouraged, knowing if he was here- there was possibility for her getting tips. "I am wonderful" she replied, looping her arm around his shoulder, hanging on him. "Maybe I can take you from alright to great" she leaned close enough for him to hear the soft tone even over the loud music bumping through the club.

as the woman wraps an arm around his shoulder, leon drops his head with a chuckle, feeling the alcohol and the warmth of her words creep up to his ears with a blush. "i'm into that," he whispers, turning his face to look into her eyes. he's such a sucker for green eyes. his hand lands on the small of her back, gently adding pressure to her body, closing the gap between them. "why don't you lead the way?" he's eager to get some private time.

The blonde watched as Leon went on stage, a wide smile on her face as she noticed the costume change. She watched as he seemed in his element on stage and thought about how she could never do something like that but felt a sort of pride for him going through with the show- given how anxious he'd been before hand. She saw the man leave the stage and followed him to congratulate him on the good show.

She spotted him, giving a small wave as she approached. "Hey." she said, her eyes bouncing between him and the bassist. "I did like it" she smiled warmly, the excitement from him was radiating. "You guys did amazin'" She added.

he smiles, grateful for her words. washed over by the adrenaline, the man approaches her and gives her a hug. see ya, man, the bassist says and leaves the room. "sorry," leon chuckles and pulls away from hattie. "endorphins or some shit." it's no secret he's a very affectionate kind of guy, and that he's flirty as hell. the blond runs a hand through his curls, trying to hide the small blush creeping up to his ears. "but yeah, thank you for coming. thank you for saying that," he smiles. it's genuine. "you want to get a drink? on me." leon's already had both his free drinks from catering, but given how pumped the crowd was, he firmly believes he's gonna sell some merch. it's worth spending that money on the woman in front of him.

she believed that if anyone could do that, it was him. "she's in good hands. i'm glad you two are working together." the innocent smile she'd worn stretched wider at his compliment and her brows lifted in surprise. pru leaned into the nudge playfully and rolled her eyes. she ignored the heat that pricked at the back of her neck and the way she didn't know what to do with the way it lingered there on her skin.

"exactly, they're overdone and people put so much into them and for what?" his offer left the woman chewing at the inside of her cheek in consideration. she had a shift, but if she asked for coverage, she knew she'd get it. it was the perk of working in a place with others who'd rather be there than anywhere else most days. "what kind of bender are we talking? how many days am i going to need to recover?"

"what?" his smile is playful, coy. he enjoys flirting.

with a shrug, leon takes another drag of his cigarette as they cross the street. she's right. for what? the man tries to come up with a quick answer, but he can't. maybe he doesn't want to. doesn't want to think about the holidays around the corner. he sees the lights of the liquor store sign, a few shops down. "maybe bar-hopping. or getting high as fuck back at my place," he chuckles, "whatever you want. but i'd ask for two to three days to recover." his grin is evident as he opens the door for her.

Adrian chuckled, low and warm. "Hey, you set the bar, not me," he shot back, but there wasn’t a shred of mockery in it, just the familiar nudge of someone who knew Leon better than the grin he hid behind. He drummed his fingers once on the bar, eyes glancing toward the stage in the back like he was already imagining Leon up there. "And yeah, when tonight goes well," he corrected, matching Leon’s confidence but grounding it at the same time. "You always pull it together when it counts. It’s annoying as hell, honestly."

The mention of Seattle softened something in his expression. "Good. Stay. Town’s quieter with you gone." It slipped out before he could filter it, so he followed it up with a shrug like it wasn’t a reveal. "Besides, The Lucerna’s better when you’re in rotation. Don’t tell anyone I said that."

He glanced at Leon’s glass, then gave him that side-eye only he could get away with. "Look, not passing out may be a low bar but clearing it makes you a headliner in this town. So humor me and stay vertical, yeah?" He nudged Leon’s shoulder once, gentler than his tone. "You got this. Just get out there and do what you do."

"i didn't know your complimenting game was so strong," leon grins and takes a sip from his drink. looking over at the stage, following adrian's eyes, the musician thinks about all the possibilities for tonight. selling out merch. not selling one single t-shirt. he's had them since the tour in south america a year ago. about ten white t-shirts left. "thanks, man," the blond nods his head and takes a last sip of whatever's left of his beer when he hears his name from the guy on the soundboard. time to do soundcheck. leon tells adrian that he'll do three songs and be back. "i also need to set up the merch table, so if you wanna help, that'd be cool." t-shirts, tote bags, cds and cassettes make up for most of leon's merch. he carries them around in a small suitcase to every gig.

the band plays two dance-driven songs and one ballad. leon's voice doesn't crack, his wrist doesn't hurt -he'd sprained it once a few years ago, so he takes warmups seriously. the performance isn't the highest-energy -mostly because they're saving it all for tonight- it's tight and kind of bouncy. the frontman smiles when he's singing about the sweetest love he's ever had. he frowns softly when singing about the yearning for a lost dream angel.

"we're doing ten more songs in the setlist," the man announces as he walks back up to adrian, looking for his cigarette pack in the pocket of his jacket.

two weeks before leon moved to windsor bay, he played shows in cities nearby. that's where he met brianna. that's where he met tons of people, actually. but he'd never forgotten about brianna. and now seeing her here in bookmarked is bringing back memories of crazy crazy times. "hey," he smiles when she notices him inside the bookstore. "remember me?"

"Oh, yeah... she's walking already. At fifteen months, she's starting to walk without needing to hold onto anything. She'll try to climb up the stairs when I'm holding onto her, but we're still working up to that," JJ explained, chuckling softly at the thought of all of the milestones that his daughter had been hitting lately. Considering the circumstances that surrounded Mia's birth, these milestones were such a big deal to him. "I... I don't even know what to say to you, man," he remarked, shaking his head as he laughed softly. "I don't even know if I want to know." Once he wiped himself off with a towel, JJ reached for his water bottle and took a few more sips. "It's my favourite thing about the holidays, giving gifts," he admitted. Leave it to JJ to find joy in watching others experience joy. But he would call it the best feeling in the world. "You know, if you wanted to change your mind about that, there's always room for one more with us Hayeses."

"wow, that's cool," leon smiles. he's never really been around kids. he doesn't have siblings or nieces, or nephews. none of his friends have kids. so, it's a whole new world to him. he stretches his arms to get that sweet reward of finishing a set. "oh no, i couldn't," the blond replies. "wouldn't want to intrude on your thanksgiving. besides, i'm more of a hit a bar type of guy." maybe hit a club, hook up with any gorgeous woman who gives him attention.

Leyla caught the way he deflected with laughter. The cigarette, the little shrug, all those tiny tells he probably thought he hid well. She didn’t call him on any of it. She just let her shoulder brush his again, slow and deliberate. "You’re welcome," she murmured. Like it wasn’t a big deal. Like she hadn’t just told him something she only said when she meant it.

His curiosity about her “private events” almost made her laugh again. The way his eyes lit up like he was walking into something thrilling instead of dusty notebooks and generational paranoia. "Good," she said, watching him from the corner of her eye. "Because you won’t get music or mood lighting. Just me, old paper, and things written by dead relatives who were either brilliant or unhinged." A small smirk. "Hard to say which."

His answer, love life, softened something in her expression. She didn’t tease him for choosing it. Didn’t twist it into anything cheap. She considered him instead, like she was turning a page he didn’t realize he’d handed her. "Alright," she said quietly. "Then here’s my question. What do you actually want from love? Not what you tell people. Not the version that sounds good in interviews or late night texts." Her voice was steady, not pushing, just curious. "What do you want?"

leon smiles as she brushes his shoulder and takes another drag from his cigarette as she tells him about the event. "hopefully, it's both brilliant and unhinged," he chuckles, flicking ashes on the floor. her question nearly makes him panic. "going for the yugular, i see," he laughs. "okay, okay. what do i want?" the blond blows a raspberry, thinking for a moment. it's not something he has completely figured out. "i guess... someone obsessed with me," he jokes, rolling his eyes. "i'm kidding. i think i want someone who... doesn't give up on me? on us? does that make sense?" he squints an eye, trying to decide if he's telling the truth or bullshiting through words. "honestly... i just want someone who stays," leon shrugs. every single girlfriend he's had has dumped him. he's never the one to end things. the man twists his lips and looks at the streetlights, hanging above, as they bathe the two sleepless souls in a warm hue. "and you know, i don't go around yelling this but... i'm kind of a sex addict. so, someone super horny is a great plus," he ends up laughing.

Alana laughed, light and easy, a rare feat considering the topic of conversation, "And I'll admit-- he was fun to piss off." At least, until she was the one picking up the pieces at the end of the day. She nodded, allowing Leon to lead her down memory lane. "Oh my God, yeah, you got me so high," she teased, swatting at his arm, "That poor woman who helped us get home... I remember trying to read her palm?" Alana covered her face for a moment, embarrassed by the memory. Even if it left her feeling warm, with confirmation that not everything in New York was bad. She hummed sympathetically. Alana knew a thing or two about fucked up patterns, herself, how they can make you feel like a stranger in your own body. "It's even harder when you get where they're coming from. It always made me think I could fix him," she mused. Alana's eyes flitted down to Leon's hand on her knee and she blinked, warmth shooting up her neck. "God, yeah," she agreed, "I'm in this program now for Clinical Psych and I swear it's like paying to fight your demons. Everyone is so fucking self aware I want to vomit." It was a good problem to have, certainly, but Alana's PhD cohort knew way more about her than she ever would've wanted. "Hey, I'm proud of you, though. It sounds like you're doing really well."

the swat to his arm causes him to grin. "hey! you had fun" he reminds her before replying "you did." leon laughs. "you told her she was an old soul and i remember thinking, is this a prank?" he'd been honestly so confused about the whole palm-reading thing. "i even started actively looking for cameras, everywhere. we were so fucked that night." the memory amuses him, he misses those wild nights in new york. he misses the wild nights with alana. she covers her face, embarrassed, and leon thinks she's the cutest ever. a fond smile on his lips. it turns to a scoff, "been there, done that," he sighs. either having someone trying to fix you or you trying to fix someone, those are always some of the most toxic relationships. pulling his hand away from her knee and picking up his beer, the blond listens as she tells him about a clinical psych program. "that's cool." it sounds interesting. "being fucking self-aware is a good problem to have," he offers with a chuckle. at least you know your flaws and can work on them. when she compliments him, leon can tell she's checking him out. fuck, those eyes still have the same power on him. and marcus is now gone from the picture. "yeah, i moved here in june and things are good. i get to work with music, i got my own place... you might not believe me, but it's actually tidy for once," he smiles, playfully. mischievously.

Tristan was helping a kid unlace their skates when he heard Leon call out to him. He looked up, spotted Leon, and immediately knew that the look on his face was trouble. The blonde tapped two fingers to his lips, miming a blunt. Tristan snorted. "Dude," he muttered, shaking his head like he wasn’t already giving in. Leon laughed and headed for the exit. "Yeah yeah, give me a sec," Tristan called after him. He handed the kid their helmet, grabbed his jacket, and made his way toward the doors. Coaching done. Bad decisions with Leon up next. He pushed outside to meet him. "You do remember the last time I tried this, right? I coughed for like, twenty minutes."

leon waits for tristan in the building's parking lot. it's always empty right by the trash cans with ashtrays on top. he checks through his emails, the blunt already in his fingers. it's an indica strain that will relax both of them to the max. chill. chill. chill. no overthinking, no complaining, no anxiety. when he spots tristan, telling him about one of their many times getting high, the blond rolls his eyes with a grin on his lips. "no, i swear you're gonna love it. indica is gentler on the throat, i guess," leon replies, bringing the blunt to his mouth. he inhales the smoke and holds it for two seconds before exhaling a thin line toward the floor. "how was class?" leon would be the first to admit that he doesn't really know what tristan does. is it a class? coaching sessions? in groups? coached practices? the musician takes a second, shorter drag and hands the blunt to tristan.
