But it feels fine to pretend and it feels fine to a performance out of what is essentially a ‘nothing’; and that’s just them, and that’s just him, and that’s as fine as he’s felt in who knows how many forevers.
That’s why he sounds suddenly a lot like laughter when he straightens the slope of his back and smiles as bright as daybreak.
”No negotiations it is, then.” That, too, is fine. The bartender tilts up, touches his mouth to the cut of the other body’s jaw, warbles once to where his smile has been. “You. The answer is indubitably you. My appreciation at its most unforgiving exists for the image of nothing quite otherwise.”
It's no secret -not at all, not anymore, but it was as good as new each time he heard about it... and he found himself craving to hear the words and going to such extremes in order to make the other speak about what the cafe owner needed to hear. Sighing with content, he places the plate before the other and caress the pale cheek as reward; well said never escapes his lips.
