Well here I am, I started the battle mechanics. I was just telling a friend that this feels like i have a giant ball of yarn with no ending string so I just have to grab one of the strands and start pulling. One of the hardest parts is starting!
UWA I've completely fallen off from my normal scheduled posting, sorry about that!!!
I posted November's dev log over on itch.io! https://itch.io/blog/846797/ho-ho-ho-its-december
I've been hard at work on my little game. Past few days I made a mokedex (it's a pokedex) and a pause menu and even implemented controller support! That was something I always wanted to try out and found it to be surprisingly easy!! IT also goes a long way to make it feel much more polished!!!
Next up is, hmm, probably get the party mechanics working? Having mokemon in your party etc. Eventually I'll get around to the battle mechanics but need to build up the systems to even hold them first!
Oops got distracted by the turkey and forgot yesterday was wednesday, not today!
Well I can proudly say that after a ton of head scratching (all self-induced I'm afraid haha), I finally got my solitaire game working just how I'd like it!
I had set out some goals for myself this month and it seems that I am just ignoring all them and making these little minigames instead LMAO. Working on customizing the decks for solitaire and then I need to build a scene transfer script to more elegantly move from the base scene to the minigame (also useful for my world map moving too, it's versatile!) .
And then after that... hmm. I'll probably get to work on the battle mechanics! I gave myself a soft deadline of Christmas to get the battles implemented. (I work best on schedules) so I'll be lumbering toward that goal I believe!
But to be more serious, I've been working on adding a few minigames to my little mokemon game and I've got nearly the 3rd little game running. Does this game need solitaire, mahjong and sudoku? No. But I wanted to add them in anyway because I thought it would be fun and that's what counts!
This took me SO LONG Im embarrassed to even admit the amount of hours but IT WORKS the shader WORKS holy moly this was a 30 second gamedev tutorial and like 5 Minute Crafts it was FULL OF LIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'd think I would have learned by now to be weary of gamedev tutorials that make it look really easy and simple. It's never that way in practice, unfortunately.
But regardless, I did it! I was even going to upload a video to show y'all but the video is taking way too long to load so this out of context screenshot it shall be.
I'm back on my biweekly update after a vacation, an ER visit and then an election that possibly might mean the end of the democratic experiment!
But enough about that, what was I able to do? Well i designed a bunch of mokemon on my trip and then I finished up the walking sprites needed for two NPCs~!
Next I'll probably work on some more NPCs. They take a while to make (bc i am no good at animation haha;) but trying my best to have fun with them.
If I can be counted on for anything, it's that im going to get distracted with what I'm planning on working on next, haha.
Ended up doing the walk cycle for the first NPC! This is Fuchsia, she's our protagonist Gray's sister. You'll be seeing a lot of her in the beginning of the game! :D
I won't be updating this upcoming Sunday because I'll be too busy with irl stuff, but I shall see you in one week-- next wednesday!
I was able to finish setting up the transportation code in my game! You can now walk the entire circle of the island! Woah! That's some fancy gameplay!!!!
I think I'll work on setting up switching the camera correctly and having a loading screen next but I also know my brain and we might get distracted 😂.
So we shall see what I'm able to do for next Wednesdays update!
Heehee, :) I lied, instead of working on NPC animations, I am now working on getting my transportation system working~! (It's so cool to actually 'play' the game!!!! I MADE THIS !!! WOAH!!!)
Fell asleep last evening before I was able to make an update haha;
I wrote another 1k of the script and this morning I wrote up the month devlog update over on itch!
Oh my god I spent 2 hours writing this blog post and right before I hit save my cat stepped on my keyboard which refreshed the page and I LO
I think I need to decrease the amount of updates from Sunday, Wednesday, Friday to just Sunday and Wednesday. I don't usually get enough done between Wednesday and Friday for a real update. So just two times~!
