Posting so I can remember this forever. My friend Brandon went to check out a possible apt in Brooklyn today and I thought his description about “college apartment” seemed so direct but perfect.
Brandon: Hey, sorry for the delay I took the longest nap after the viewing this morning. I’m also struggling to send voice memos today!
Overall the viewing went well, Sophia is such a nice person. She’s super friendly and extroverted and I think she would be a great roommate. I also met her boyfriend and he seems super nice as well.
The place itself is an old building, so there’s definitely a lot of wear and tear. In many ways it kind of reminds me of a college apartment. Theres some things like cracks in the walls, water spots in the ceilings, and things that have been painted over a million times, but none of that bothers me enough to turn down the place. I’ve lived in a lot of old buildings before. Also, Sophia and her roommates do keep the place pretty clean so I’m not that worried about it.
When it comes to your room, I don’t think you can fit a full size bed and a desk. It would be super tight. You can definitely fit a full size bed if you push it up against the window, but you would only get about 3 feet for a desk and I think you would have issues getting into the closet. There’s also only one outlet in your room.
I think the pictures do the place justice. I asked her if there was any communal furniture or kitchen stuff that we would need and she said no. The only thing she could think of was maybe a coffee table for the living room. All the furniture including the kitchen stuff, the dining room set, and the couch is hers and is staying with the apartment.
The neighborhood seems pretty quiet. Both of our rooms are street facing, but she said her roommates have never complained about street noise. Theres a big grocery store about a block away and two blocks from the subway stop. We’re also very close to a gym and pedestrian path to get our exercise in!
Overall, I feel good about the place. My gut says to go for it, but I’m also happy to talk it over with you further!
