( an unexpected adventure. )
Why did the kitten look so upset at that name? Was it so bad? Head tilting to the side, she sighed out, a small smile forming on her lips. Letting out a little giggle, she scratched stripes behind his ears a little bit more, before grabbing at the feline and setting him down on the floor.
âAlright, Just wait for a minute, okay? Iâm going to bring you some food.â Shuffling into the kitchen, she opened up her fridge and took out the carton of milk, which she opened up and poured into a bowl. After closing it shut and placing it away, Ringo planted one hand on her hip, lips pursed.
What else should I give him?
After scrounging around in one of her cupboards, she found a can of tuna, turning it around to look at the expiration date. Still good! Opening it up, she scooped it into another bowl. âThere!â Grabbing each bowl, she shuffled back to where Kid Kitty was. Bending down, she placed them down, patting the feline on his head. âThere you go, eat up.â She waited patiently for the cat to eat, making herself comfortable on the bed.
The petting behind his ear allowed his sniffling to settle down, but if she continued to call him Stripes, he would most certainly turn miserable quickly. He was then placed on the floor, so he awaited there until further instruction.
Before long, Ringo had gone to the kitchen to feed him, to take her own food and offer it to him .. ah, he'd certainly have to repay her somehow. When he was human again, of course. Maybe give her some money for the cost of the food...
Oh?
With two bowls placed in front of him, the shinigami-cat inspected both of them curiously, eyeing both the quality and presentation of the food. The milk looked fine, of course, there wasn't much that could be done there-- a quick taste test would confirm this. Moving on, he smelled the tuna and immediately shot up and glanced away with disgust.
". . . "
He certainly had no right to be picky, but he couldn't have himself getting sick later, either.

I guess I could take you back to your dorm room, itâll be hard to open the door, but maybe I can jerry rig the lock using my wind magic to force it open⊠Although itâs on a much more precise level than Iâm used to I can probably do itâŠ
âŠ
[And then it clickedâŠ]
Are you implying something?!
[ As they talked, Death the Kitten headed towards the bush where he had hidden his clothing, crawling beneath it to offer himself some warmth before he poked his head out to continue speaking. ]
I don't wish to burden you. I'm not even sure you would fit in the hallway..
[ Rude, Kid. Rude. ]
Also, you're still female. I doubt they would be content with a girl in the males' dorms...
Wha--? Did I say something wrong?

( an unexpected adventure. )
Honestly, you never know with Celestia sensei. She does some pretty weird stuffâŠ
Drinking on campus, driving go-kartsâŠ
Not exactly what youâd call normal or rational thinking on the part of an alicornâŠ
That is simply only more reason to believe the teachers at this school aren't quite qualified to teach.
[ Sigh. ]
I apologize, but standing here chatting with you is bound to attract some attention. We should find a better location. Although... you seem to be quite large wherever you go ..
[ Wow Kid, did you just call her fat. ]
( an unexpected adventure. )
Well Iâve seen Celestia store her magic in other objects. For instance I have a rose that will teleport me to her office if Iâm ever in danger. Perhaps she placed the spell as a booby trap in case people decided to snoop through her stuff without permission? I mean she barely uses the classroom to begin with. Sheâll usually just make her students come to her whenever theyâre ready for a lesson.
I'm not sure if it would be in a teacher's best interest to set convenient traps for her own students. Not to mention that if this were a trap, the chances of her placing it on this specific spell that Soul happened to read because I supposedly didn't care for the asymmetrical size of the book out of all the books I could have given him is very low.
In any case, I don't feel as if this will last long. Call it intuition if you will.
More importantly, I need someone to iron my clothes ...
( an unexpected adventure. )
Well I guess that makes senseâŠ
But what if the magic from the book is permanent? Most of the spells Celestia casts have a timer for their release. But if the book cast its own spell, maybe there isnât a release timer?
If both the spell and magic came from the book, then the spell and magic to reverse it should also come from the book.Â
But it's not as if I'm a witch, I can barely say for sure what will occur. I'd like to believe that if this was a beginner's spell book, then the spell will not be permanent.Â
what could go wrong? â
âSo not coolâŠâ Soul muttered to himself while laying in the darkness. He wasnât exactly sure what just happened. All he knew was that he was suddenly on the floor and there was a giant blanket covering him. Familiar smelling blanket, but that wasnât the point. No waitâ- this smelt like⊠His cologne. Fabric seemed familiar too. Wait, was this his coat? Why was it so big? Sure Soul ate a lot, but that didnât mean it would be stretched like that.
The scythe rolled over, groaning in annoyance. Today just wasnât his day. Missed out on starting his weekend early, got drafted into helping Kidd with his stupid investigation, and nowâŠ
Actually he didnât know what exactly now was. That is, till he attempted to stand up and fell on his face. âWhat the hellâŠ?â Outside of this little fort he had going on, he could hear a very loud yelling coming from Death the Kid. It sounded⊠Different. Curious of what exactly was up with Kidd, Soul began to uhh crawl his way out of this dungeon since he couldnât exactly walk at the moment for some strange reason.
Oh! There was light! He nudged his way through the exit, popping his head out of the coat. âWell that was weird.â Right now, the whole classroom would be like sitting in Big World from Super Mario Bros 3â- not that Soul played that more than he should. Everything was at least twice itâs size, perhaps more!
âŠ
His eyes fell on the cat opposite of him. Black fur, tail, paws⊠Three stripes on itâs ear?! Oh and he was kind of pissed off looking. Hmm. Not exactly the best start to the situation. âNo way⊠Kidd, is that you?â A dumb question at best.
âŠ
âŠâŠ..
WaitâŠ
If Kidd was yelling at him and he was a small furry animal⊠Did that mean? Hoping that it was just a coincidence and he was maybe something cooler, Soul began to examine himself. Tail, paws, soft ears, whiskers, over sized clothes, the whole shibam! A small kitten, just like his comrade.
âUhh⊠So, this is.. Pretty uncool. Care to explain what happened? Did you hit a trap or something? Never know in this roomâŠâ
Nope. Not taking the blame for this one. Even though there was a very good chance it was his faultââ okay it was entirely his fault. Yet⊠It seemed so unlikely! Soul didnât know magic. It was just an old spell book. How could it be possible? Alright the book was a beginners spell book, but that wasnât the point! It couldnât be true. This couldnât be happening.
"Of course it's me." the kitten seethed, obviously upset at this unfortunate series of events. Upon hearing the other trying to pass this situation on to him, Death the Cat only grew more annoyed.
"Don't you dare try to place the blame on me! The blue light emerged from the book you were holding! The question here is: what did you do? In the name of my Father, you better reverse this spell right this instant."
"Understand?"
Ohhh, he was mad. Unfortunately, it was quite hard to be threatening when he was an adorable, black kitten. Nonetheless, the anger written in his eyes could easily be read, his claw pointing straight at the scythecat with rage. "Honestly... are you an imbecile? Why would you attempt casting a spell to begin with?" It must have been an accident, but that didn't change the fact that Death the Kid's plan to get in and get out was now ultimately ruined.
"Is that what 'cool' kids do these days..." he asked rhetorically, mostly beneath his breath but still audible to the keen sense of hearing the two now have. Taking in a few breaths, the kitten managed to relax himself a bit after a brief pause.
(Calm down, calm down.. we haven't been caught, there's no reason to be unreasonable just yet.)Â
Shifting his posture, he arrogantly looked to the side, his tail flicking upright all in one sharp motion.
"Anyway, we don't have much time before the school closes. Our priority is to turn back, but if we can't do so quickly, we'll have to return here tomorrow-- without being seen-- to try once more. We absolutely cannot get caught."
Golden hues now fixed on to his oversized clothing that lay on the teacher's desk, the cat inwardly cried in stress. Immediately, he bit on to the edge of his pants, attempting to drag it off the desk so he could take it back to his dorm in the case they couldn't change back.
"...!!!"Â
Despite the fact he was growing frustrated at how heavy it was, the cat merely continued to try moving it-- there was no way he could leave it behind--!!
( an unexpected adventure. )
âOh, ok, so long as you know what youâre doing, Mister Catââ Wait. That cat just shook itâs head. That cat just comprehended the English languageâŠÂ
THIS CAT IS A GENIUS.
But apparently, a catâs intelligence has absolutely nothing to do with articulation- thatâs just nature, after all. That was to be expected, anyways. But it sounded a bit like it was in pain. âErrr⊠Gee, thatâs not a good sound.â She stared as the cat scratched at the ground. She didnât know too much about cats and their expressions, but it looked pretty upset to her.
Reaching one hand out, she patted the cat on his head. How are you supposed to comfort a cat, anyways?
Although he was annoyed, the petting he soon received managed to calm him down significantly. He wasn't quite used to the reflexes and instincts of a cat, but he could definitely comprehend the remarkable sensation of being pet.
"...rrr...."
Soft purrs indicating that she had helped him become soothed, the kitten quickly realized that people like this were his only hope of surviving until he had gotten his human form back.
It.. felt wrong, but perhaps if he acted cute enough, she would help him? Somehow, he had gotten the instinct that if he pleased her, she would reward him. So, he begins to paw at her hands playfully, latching on to them in order to help his golden hues make contact with her own eyes.Â
( an unexpected adventure. )
When the woman offered her cat food Rin simply shook her head. âYou know me better than that! I like to spoil my pets.â At the shopkeeperâs scolding, the blonde winced; white ribbon bouncing in a dejected manner. âI know! I know⊠itâs a bad habit to feed animals food that isnât normal in their diets â but⊠heâs not really mine! So, just this once?â The combined effort of her words and the endearing pout on the girlâs face put the old woman at ease and she simply waved Rin away, making the girl giggle.Â
As the woman turned, Rin lifted him and gently whispered. âCat food smells so gross. Iâll stop by the market and buy you some salmon and fresh milk.â Nose gently nuzzled the soft fur and she smiled. He really was an adorable kitten. After everything was tallied up, Rin managed to dig into her pocket and remove her wallet; placing the sum of money on the counter.Â
âItâs a good thing Crypton just sent me my allowance earlier this week. Or else Iâd have to bother Len for money.âÂ
Taking the bag, she bowed politely and waved as she exited the store. Back outside, she made sure that the black kitten was wrapped snugly within her scarf before heading down the street towards the market. As she walked, she hummed again â singing beneath her breath before balking as the smell of fish reached her nose. âOh, at least itâs fresh.â She laughed and poked along the stands. âItâs too bad you canât talk. You could tell me what kind of fish you like the best!âÂ
His rather deep thoughts about a person's love for animals was soon interrupted as he was lifted up, golden hues blinking curiously up at her before he soon felt her nose nuzzled against his fur. Inwardly blushing, the poor cat was at a loss for words, completely unaccustomed with such affection. Having never received even the love of a mother, he felt strange being coveted by a female.Â
(S-surely if you knew it was me, you wouldn't dare do such things.)Â
Sighing to himself, he decided only to continue snuggling within her scarf; it was both too great a comfort and temptation not to. Listening to her soft hums, he took notice of her soft voice, slowly drawing to the conclusion that she might have sung professionally. Now normally, his ears would not have been able to tell, but being so close to her and having the sharper hearing of a cat assisted him significantly.Â
The smell of salmon soon reaching his nose, the kitten suddenly grew delighted- so much so that he even surprised himself.Â
(OooOOOOHHH-!!!)Â
Abruptly sitting upright inside her scarf, his tail began flicking side to side in excitement, before all the shinigami could think about was eating.Â
(Ms. Rin is the greatest! What an angel! Ahhh, I can't wait!--- Wait. What am I saying. Â It's simply fish. I can live without it. But .. ahh...!! It smells so delicious-!! Perhaps I can ... stay with her for just a while longer. I must be polite, afterall.)Â
Right.
( an unexpected adventure. )
Iâm surprised soul was even able to cast the spell to be honest. From what I was told, magic powers like that have to be unlocked by a superior magical being⊠And even at that, transformation magic is way beyond that of a beginner level.
[Note: Rina has no idea that soul is a weapon and thus already has a type of magic already within him.]
And yes, Celestia senseiâs the magic teacher here. If you want you can jump up on my back and I can bring you to her office. Perhaps sheâll be able to help you out?
To be honest, I'm not that surprised. Books themselves are able to host their own type of magical energy that simply need a host to activate it. Since the blue light came from the book itself and not from Soul's body, what I have stated would most likely be the case. Â
[ Moving on, the black kitten licked one of his paws before suddenly freezing at Rina's suggestion. ]
Ah.. no, that's alright. Thank you for your offer, though.Â
[ He couldn't let the magic teacher know he and Soul had been in her room touching her things. Meeting with her would have to be saved as a last resort. ]
Whoops! Be back later guys. Replies will be until then, too!
I will surely add the cat of Shinigami to my collection....
