my current rhaenicent s3 predictions based on released stills, trailers, and leaks:
alicent returns to king's landing and learns that aegon is missing. she convinces aemond to leave the city with vhagar and then, knowing rhaenyra likely won't believe that aegon's escape had nothing to do with her, tries to flee the city with helaena instead of upholding her deal with rhaenyra. rhaenyra takes king's landing similarly to how it plays out in fire & blood (daemon-loyal gold cloaks turning on their brothers, etc). alicent and helaena are captured by rhaenyra's men before they can escape and are brought before rhaenyra, leading to a brief queen in chains era for alicent. there are some tense intimate conversations with rhaenyra during her imprisonment that lead to rhaenyra giving alicent more freedom and alicent eventually acting as rhaenyra's unofficial advisor as she becomes distrustful of her actual council.
Alicent Hightower & Helaena Targaryen in the Season 3 Teaser Trailer
fascinated by the fact that george seems to be under the impression that people only ever commit suicide as a reaction to something horrible happening in their life and never just because everything sucks and they want it to be over
Queen Alicent & Queen HelaenaHOUSE OF THE DRAGON | S02E08
okayyy a bunch misc of season 2 thoughts now that we've seen the whole thing:
highlight of the whole season was the helaena-alicent dynamic they're kind of everything to me
i agree with people who think a lot of the dialogue wasn't as good as last season but i'm also willing to give them some slack on this particular criticism since they had to film without writers on set AND i do think we still got a few bangers this season
cutting nettles and giving sheepstealer to rhaena is the only thing that's almost a dealbreaker for me. like genuinely pisses me off every time i think about it.
hated most of what was going on with alicent for the first 2 episodes and still think alicole was completely nonsensical and ridiculous and alicent's arc would've been more coherent without it. that being said, i'm quite happy with the direction they've taken her in since that all ended and her current character direction is the thing that makes me most excited for season 3
love pretty much everything they've done with rhaenyra and the hints at where her character might be going in the future
liked that we finally got some tension and dysfunction from team black but i wish they would've leaned into it more, especially with rhaena and baela's feelings re: daemon as a father and rhaenyra as a stepmother
liked what they were doing with daemon episodes 1-6, then it started to drag a little, then they did the dumb prophecy thing, which i thought was extremely goofy
conflicted about them writing otto off the show for such a long time.... on one hand i think his absence was necessary for alicent's character arc but on the other i missed seeing rhys ifans on my screen
liked what they did with hugh as a character and am very curious to see what they keep and what they change from his book arc moving forward
SHARAKO LOHAR!!!!!! i liked her :)
anyway my favorite historical woman is irene of athens who had her own son's eyes gouged out so she could usurp his throne after he stopped listening to her advice and basically fired her. so alicent selling out aegon and aemond to protect helaena is light work to me
i'm normally a very stoic tv watcher but i did gasp out loud and immediately start tearing up when alicent said "come with me"
ALICENT HIGHTOWER and RHAENYRA TARGARYEN HOUSE OF THE DRAGON — S1E1 x S2E8
it definitely does feel like they wrote ten episodes for this season, found out they were only going to get eight, and decided to just cut the last two
i realize this will be controversial but i kind of love that helaena isn't into the whole dragon riding thing
ALICENT HIGHTOWER and RHAENYRA TARGARYEN HOUSE OF THE DRAGON — S2E8: The Queen Who Ever Was
criston gazing at the handkerchief he emotionally blackmailed alicent into giving him and pressing it to his lips like it's a locket with a picture of his beloved wife in it while she's on her way to sell him out to rhaenyra is sooooo funny
just for the record i AM pro deadbeat moms and i AM pro abandoning your children to pursue lesbianism
i'm a helaena/alys connoisseur after this season btw i was intrigued by the concept in season one but now i'm fully on board. age gap yuri between two weird prophetic women who never actually meet is something that can be so personal
dany/emilia clarke fans attacking emma d'arcy on twitter because emma said they're resistant to rhaenyra-dany comparisons oh brother let me log off before i say some very nasty things about ms clarke's acting
