“Why does it matter to you?”
The defensive snark in Lacuna’s voice was enough to make Violet throw her out of the hut right that instant, but after taking a steadying breath and running fingers through her own hair, the bandit merely closed her eyes and smiled.
“You can just admit that you do that sort of thing, Princess…I don’t really care,” the Nighthawk retorted dismissively. “I know you think that I’m just some bottom of the barrel peasant who likes to torment people for fun, and you’re not entirely wrong…but know this.”
Violet rose to her feet with a grunt and a smattering of coughs, the full weight of a hard day’s labor finally crashing down on her aching shoulders. Sweeping right past Lacuna, the beleaguered bandit stared out of a hole in her thatched hut-”a window”-and up at the moon.
