The overall theme to my project was nature and horizon. All the pictures were taking during different timing throughout the day. All of the pictures were taking in different states that include Maryland, Washington D.C and Delaware.
In the first picture with the green and yellow trees, the sun was setting and felt it was a great fall picture. In capturing composition, the picture was framed so the sun was shining from behind the trees. In the second picture, it established the environment with a pond. The picture captured the reflection of the trees on the water. The black and white picture was captured while thinking creatively. The little house was right in the middle of the pond, so I zoomed in with the camera to capture the perfect composition between the water and the trees. The range in the black in white picture was at f/2.8, which gave a larger depth of field. In the fourth picture, it was attracting attention. The picture was focused on certain waves with a blurry background. It caught my attention because all you could hear is the water moving, while taking the picture. In the fifth picture, the point of view was taken from under the tree. I got under the tree to get more of a focal point of the colorful leaves.
A variety of these pictures were capture in a car, which caused a lot of motion while moving. I tried focusing and taking as many pictures, while the car moved. The picture of the birds were taking a couple of times until a perfect picture came out from it.
Throughout the semester my skills change tremendously when taking picture now. I’ve learned to have more patience and think about my composition, while taking a photo. My photos have a cleaner background and I think outside of the box in what will make a picture stand out. My pictures convey different aspects that were shown in class whether it has to do with lighting, being different, and the rule of thirds.
Artist Statement
Art is a getaway to look at everything through my lens and see what captures my eyes. Photography is a way to have various points of view to capture an amazing picture. The exposure of lighting, composition, focus and shutter speed all must come together to show people the beautiful images that you see. Capturing pictures has become something that I truly enjoy and express myself. A quote that caught my attention by Aaron Siskind, “Photography is a way of feeling, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever. It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything”. It influences me to grab a camera and put it in burst mode to freeze the capture the moment, so you can always look back at them and laugh. In photography one of the main imageries that comes to interest is landscape. The world itself is beautiful and there is so much to see. Every picture that I see of nature and landscapes influence me to go out and take some myself. It’s has been a dream of mine to travel the world. I want to view everything that is out there, whether it’s the beach, ponds, rivers, the sun setting, trees, mountains, etc. and actual photograph it all. One day I can hang up all my photographs in my house and say that I took those pictures. Photographing pictures of landscape is a bit difficult because everything is always in motion. In the process of capturing the perfect picture, patience is needed. I also take as many pictures to get that perfect one. I set the aperture, ISO, composition, and figure out the depth of field that I want. Photography has allowed me to get away from everything to think creatively and focus on seeing things that I enjoy. The most important thing of all is that I have fun while photographing and take a pause to enjoy the moment. A quote by Ralph Hattersley, “We are making photographs to understand what our lives mean to us”, perfectly explains phoytography to me.
