Pink architecture of Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Found out a new fact today!
The reason we see so much pink architecture in Jaipur today is that, in 1876, Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh (the King of Jaipur essentially) painted many buildings pink to entice Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to visit his city.
He specifically used pink, as it was seen as a the colour of hospitality.
Therefore, the nickname the "Pink City" of Rajasthan, reflects the strong hospitality in India that existed in years past and pervades into the mindsets of modern Indians.

Did yk that this phenomenon has been the coined the Matilda Effect?
One of the most atrocious instances of this is Walter Keane's paintings of big eyes. He locked his wife (Margaret Keane) into a room to paint and then coerced her into silence with threats of violence. In the end, Margaret sued him for defamation and won the case (yay!).
Though, of course it would be amiss to ignore the thousands of wives (and women) who were never given their justice.
Take Rosalind Franklin, who captured "Photo 51", the image that revealed the double helix structure. However, the Nobel Peace Prize for the discovery of DNA was give to James Watson, Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins, ommitting Franklin's vital contirbutions.
Even in the present day, my GCSE history textbook contains little mention of Franklin, giving her a few sentences on a double page spread about Watson and Crick.
In the future, hopefully, we can change this, bringing Franklin's and all other women's amazing contributions to the light.
