I know this is really far down on the list of Age of Ultron criticisms, but every time I remember that the majority of fans didn’t realize that Wanda and Pietro signed on to be experimented on by SHIELD, because the movie didn’t do enough to make the timeline clear enough, my soul dies a little.

I know the movies ignored that they’re supposed to be Roma and Jewish, but with that context especially- They volunteered to be part of the good guys (even though the good guys associated with Stark of all people), but because Hydra had infiltrated SHIELD, they ended up the genetically-manipulated playthings of Nazis.

And then they never did anything with that again, despite how interesting a choice that could have been.

Concept

When he’s 7, Tommy Shepherd’s current foster parents forget to feed him for a while. Miles away, Billy Kaplan is too sick to get out of bed.

When he’s 8, Billy gets his tonsils out. Tommy falls asleep spontaneously in the middle of the day. He doesn’t wake up until Billy comes out of anethesia.

When he’s 11, Tommy gets into the worst fistfight of his life. In his 5th grade classroom, Billy’s nose starts bleeding. He can’t explain the bruises that appear on his body.

When he’s 14, Billy has his first kiss. Tommy’s heart races for no reason.

Billy and Tommy living such a huge chunk of their lives feeling like they’re missing something they can’t name.

Not to be too political on a fandom-only account but since this past Friday was Intnl. Holocaust Remembrance Day and everybody is making Nazi Party comparisons in our current political climate here’s some quick #suggestions on how you, a Young Avengers/MCU/Maximoff-family fan, can align your social awareness and political activism with your fandom activity.

~ ask yourself why you feel compelled to attach the quintessential “tiny jewish gay witch boy uwu” caption to Billy Kaplan? what does calling attention to a character’s ethnicity/religion/sexuality mean to you? Are you being cute by flaunting how ~diverse~ your fave is, or do you do your best to exercise sensitivity and progressive values in your reading/portrayal of this, and all other Jewish and LGBT characters?

~ on this topic, are you connecting the dots between Billy, Tommy and Wanda? Are you mindful of the fact that both of the younger twins are both Jewish and Roma? If the thought hasn’t occurred to you, ask yourself why you never see it mentioned in canon or fandom.

~ if you’re stanning a minority character, what effort are you making to educate yourself on the historical and present-day circumstances of those minority groups? What effort are you making to mindful of those characters’ heritage/identity, and in particular to be mindful of how you interact with those characters and histories if you are a non-member of those groups?

Billy and Tommy aren’t Roma tho… Billy and Tommy biologically aren’t Wanda’s children. And Billy being Jewish has nothing to do with Wanda and everything to do with his biological parents who just also happen to be Jewish.

Did you even read Young Avengers before you started pulling facts out of your ass? Seriously I appreciate the message you’re sending because it is very important to be mindful of other cultures but it’s clear you’re not fully informed about the history of Billy and Tommy and their relationship to Wanda.

You have 0 evidence that they ARENT Roma though, to be fair. Who are we to say the families they were born into aren’t even partially so? There’s nothing stating they aren’t. Op is valid with this in mind.

I mean if you have headcanons that they're Roma that's perfectly 100% fine but stating that they are as a fact when not a shred of canonical context validates said claim isn't. Claiming that they're Roma because Wanda is validates that canonical fact that they're not biologically the sons of Wanda. You can't condemn people for not supporting a theory that isn't isn't backed by canon.
