I love Castiel, I like Crowley, and one or two other obscure characters on SPN.
I hate with passion what SPN did to Castiel's character, how they reduced and degraded him and stripped him of all his brilliance and power in order to glorify the designated (human) heroes of the show.
And I see this as a deliberate design; I see Castiel's character assassination as the putrid crown jewel of the core SPN narrative of human-supremacy and "family first" value.
It seems obvious to me that this human-supremacy is also a fantasy version of US-supremacy, which is to say, in 2025 2026 I hate that narrative and its heroes more than ever. Intrinsically, I also hate the human centric lens, even without the real-life mirror.
I hate all the Winchesters, Dean in particular, and I have come to hate the entire show. I don't care about any other recurring characters any more either.
Please block me if you find my opinions upsetting. I am not interested in debate (on this matter).
But if you are that 1 in a million Castiel fan who can't stand the Winchesters, you are not alone. Please check out my metas, hcs and fics below the cut. I have tried to evacuate Castiel from the prison that the show and fandom built for him.
BTW I don't ship in general but I ship crowstiel-- initially for spite, but then became quite sincere.

Yes I am a fan of "earnest crowstiel": I "ship" them as in "friendship" of mutual understanding and respect, and to me that's the highest form of relationship.
Yep I know my anti-Dean, pro-Cas take is very unpopular
I had the mental image of Castiel and Crowley taking a walk for whatever reason, and Castiel forgot to step on the ground. Not levitating, not gliding, he was going through the motions of walking one foot after another, but just about half an inch above the pavement. Like he thinks it's close enough, but it's noticeable and ridiculous.
I'm being silly, of course. I think the reason angels have to take a vessel is precisely because they can then follow the laws of physics of the human world by default without effort (they can ignore those laws too but it takes intention) . I just think it would be funny.
I wasn’t planning to ever talk about SPN again, but since I’ve become a Wiccan this rant has been bouncing around my head, and I hate that very few people have talked about this
Basically, I am a wiccan/pagan who works with the Greek Pantheon, and I fucking HATE how SPN treated the gods, to the point that I have to make sure other people are aware of how fucked up it is
They fucked them up in multiple ways, and it is gross af imo:
1. They made them all be evil cannibals/human-eaters, just like they do every other non-human species in this show. They absolutely do it to try to justify their precious Hunter protagonists murdering anyone who isn’t human, and also because they think that making the monsters eat humans makes them spookier. I hate when they do this just in general, but it makes me 10 times angrier when they do it to literal gods!
Like sure some gods did shitty things(cough cough Zeus), and for all I know some gods from some cultures did eat humans, but non-christian gods in general aren’t evil monsters who eat people! They wouldn’t be worshipped the way they are if that was true, and making them like that is disgustingly offensive to all the irl people who worship/work with/follow them!
2. They not only made the gods man-eaters, they made them that way to set them up as villains/antagonists for the Hunters. I mentioned this on point one, but I’m mentioning it again, to point out how they quite literally villainize almost all of the non-christian gods. Like, other than one or two(who are only not villains because they help the fucking Hunters, and one isn’t even a real god!), basically all of the non-christian gods are portrayed as evil villains, and nearly all of them are killed for it!
Because the gods were made antagonists to the so-called ‘heroic’ Hunters, that also means that they show said Hunters fighting, and even killing, the gods. This is also offensive and kinda fucked-up; having the gods be killed by humans like that, and more than that having these mortal monster-killers policing the literal gods the same way that they do all other nonhuman/supernatural species! Not that I agree with the Hunters treating the other supernatural species that way either(I hate it actually!), but it’s even worse with literal gods who are worshipped by actual people in the real world!
3. They made the christian god more powerful than the non-christian gods, and made him the ultimate creator-of-everything god. They even imply that he created the other gods!
Yes, the christian god/Chuck is portrayed as a villain, but regardless he’s still portrayed as the most powerful being in creation and the one who created everything! So him being evil doesn’t excuse this shit!
There is no reason that he should be more powerful than the other gods or be the one who ‘created’ them imo. It’s also grossly offensive and bigoted to anyone who worships the non-christian gods, paints the christian god as ‘better’ than all the other gods, and tries to force other religions’ deities into a christianity-centric universe/viewpoint in a very gross way!
4. Related to my last point, they made it so that even the christian angels are more powerful than the non-christian gods! It’s bad enough that they made the christian god more powerful than the other gods, but even his children/underlings are stronger than any non-christian gods in this fucking show!
Lucifer, who is a christian angel(fallen or not he’s still an angel in SPN lore) attacked and absolutely wiped the floor with a whole room full of non-christian gods! He killed them all without even breaking a sweat, meaning that he is stronger than any of them.
And no, I don’t care that he was a villain and Doing Villain Things! It’s the same as the Chuck thing, where them being portrayed as evil/wrong for what they did doesn’t matter, because their morality doesn’t change how they were pushed as so much stronger than the non-christian gods!
5. One of the ‘gods’ in the show, and basically the only ‘good god’, wasn’t even a fucking god! They made another fucking christian angel(Gabriel) disguise himself as Loki, and for most of the show he was the only ‘Loki’!
Yes, I know that Actual Loki is introduced eventually, but still for most of the show the only ‘Loki’ was a fucking angel. It also doesn’t change the fact that basically the only non-evil ‘god’ wasn’t a god, and was actually a christian religious figure in disguise! Which is gross!
So, to summarize: among other reasons that I hate this fucking show, the way they treated all of the non-christian gods makes me sick! I’ve felt this way since before I became a Wiccan, but actually worshipping some of those gods just makes it that much more appalling to me!
Yes, this is something I hate about SPN too, and I have definitely seen others complain (enraged) about it. "Hammer of the Gods" is my most hated SPN episode and Castiel isn't even in it, so considering how I don't care about the show except for Castiel, this says a lot. It's not just that Lucifer was able to kill a room full of other people's gods, but Dean (a human) killed one too (the Chinese one, I think)
I don't really believe in any god so I shouldn't personally feel offended by the demeaning of other gods, but I see it as a symbol of disrespect for other cultures and peoples.
On the other hand, SPN villainizes women, POC, non-midwestern-Americans in general (including the British LOL), not to mention all non-humans. The (nominally biblical) angels are painted as "winged dicks", and they get de-powered and diminished severely as the show went on, but yes, other people's gods somehow end up on the bottom of their garbage chute of contempt.
I invite you to see this hc I have about the other gods in SPN.
gods of the world – @vaicomcas on Tumblr
I have this other fic idea actually that expand on it and um, Dunno, could be offensive to the religious too, so beware and I'm putting it under the cut.
So the idea is the angels of SPN universe are actually the other gods of ancient human history that Chuck subjugated, and because they are immortal and he couldn't kill them, he had Naomi wipe their minds, making them believe they are his children and his creation, and used them to uphold his world order. That's also why when they "die" they still don't really, just get like stored away in the Empty. That's also why they seem to have such inconsistent behaviors and personalities despite the show's insistence they are all just automatons incapable of free will.
(Archangels probably are the true children of Chuck, plus a contingency that either Chuck or the archangels created. He obviously needed an army to defeat those other gods)
In a Godstiel AU, when Castiel became nearly as powerful as Chuck, he uncovered this illusion, and liberated Heaven, subsequently the "angels" fought Chuck together. (sadly, Chuck wins, wiped out that episode of Castiel's rebellion, made him the villain of s7e1, and we get the rest of the show that we watched, where Castiel got more and more humiliation and degradation and the angels did too).
(Sorry to make this all about Castiel again but I only have brain cells for him)
So I learned about this Australian bird called Cassowary. They are called "the world's most dangerous bird", they can chase their victims at 30mph, weigh more than 150 lb, have 4 inch blade-like claws, are basically living dinosaurs.
Of course like a normal person I immediately think: Cassowary = Wary Cass.
Of course then I had to draw a Castiel Cassowary. With a neck tie and a face knife.
Hi! Would you be interested to draw Crowley playing the violin, and Castiel either listening unseen in an adjacent room, clearly mesmerized, or otherwise accompanying him on the piano?
(Because the devil is supposed to be great at fiddle)
Speaking of Hunteri Heroici. Remember how through the entire episode Sam and Dean were condescending to him, mocking him and rolling their eyes at him for smelling the urinary track infection of the corpse, and for interrogating the cat?
(if you need a reminder, see this endiness gif set)
Because of course only the evidence the Winchesters gathered was legit, and evidence Cas gathered were just evidence of his cluelessness.
But that's just the show making it so. Objectively, the victim's state of health is just as likely to be relevant to the case as anything else. (If not we wouldn't have so many TV shows about medical examiners) And the cat is quite likely to be witness to some crime, more than random people, because the perp wouldn't be inhibited by the presence of a cat.
So this is what I want to read in a fic.
Castiel being already severely depressed from his enormous guilt, and now being made to feel stupid and useless from his only "friends", didn't know how to cope, so he went and drank a couple of liquor stores.
While drinking he came to the brilliant idea to improve his skills by reading all the books of famous detectives. Then reading while drunk Cas accidentally conjured up some magic that brought the detective from one of the books to reality--such as Hercule Poirot. Castiel enthusiastically seized this opportunity and provided the facts of the case to Poirot, who of course used his "little grey cells" to figure out that in fact the urinary tract infection of the dead man was a crucial clue which led them to solve the case.
Then it got me thinking how great it would actually be, for Castiel to have someone gentle and kind like that as a mentor. How Hercule would be so pleasantly surprised to meet an angel, would be genuinely curious, how he would actually appreciate Castiel's unique, nonhuman abilities, how he understood, even if only to a small degree, Castiel's isolation due to his "otherness", how he could tell Castiel he didn't need to blend in with the humans in order to help people, using he, Hercule Poirot himself as example.
(Cas could be a bit like Captain Hastings I guess... though that made me feel guilty)
(I can only imagine how the Winchesters would respond to their "dumbass" angel showing up with a foreigner with waxed mustache and a "French" accent; and then to find out they already solved the case)
